Chapter 11

Ceelin "What? You and Phil Salvatore were already married?!" Yves exclaimed when I told her about my marriage to Phil. She almost choked while drinking his juice. "Raise your voice so that all the students in the canteen can hear you." I slapped her shoulder. "But don't you hate him? Why did you suddenly change your mind and marry him?" she asked, her face still in disbelief. "Dad and Mom were forcing me to marry an old man. I had no choice but to accept Phil's offer. It's better to marry him than that dirty old man," I replied before taking a sip of juice from my glass. We were in the canteen now because it was our free time. "Well, you're right. Even I would have chosen that too," said Yves. Her expression suddenly changed, and she teased her. "So, how was your first night with your husband? Is it wonderful?" "Crazy." I laughed slightly at what she said. "We slept in different rooms, okay? We didn't get married because we loved each other but because we needed each other. So put that green-mindedness out of your mind." Yves suddenly frowned. "There's no fun in it. But what did Phil's family say? Do they accept you?" I shrugged slightly. "Phil has already introduced me to his father and as I expected, he has accepted me. But I haven't met his mother and sister. I don't want to meet them either." Because I know that they would not like me. They would just bully and torture me. "As far as I know, those two have high standards for the woman Phil will marry. And then I heard that they've already chosen a woman for him. She's his childhood sweetheart. I'm sure they won't like you," Yves said with concern in her voice. "Even if you don't tell me, I know about that. But Phil and I were already married so there's nothing they can do about it." Even if Phil and I are married they definitely won't stop finding a way to separate us. That mother and daughter hate me to the bones. They managed to crush my hands just to get me to sign the divorce papers. I have to be careful with them. "By the way, our graduation day is coming up. Have you thought about a company you plan to work for?" Yves changed the subject. We'll be graduating in just two months. If it weren't for the educational plan my grandma left for me, I definitely wouldn't have been able to go to college. In my last life, I didn't finish college because Phil and I got married before graduation. That's when another hardship in my life began, created by his mother and sister. "I don't know. I haven't thought about it." "Do you want us to apply to your husband's company?" I suddenly paused for a moment and thought about it. The Salvatore Group is the largest company in the country and almost all employees dream of joining this company. If Yves and I were to join Phil's company, it would be a great experience for us newly graduated. "Okay. Let's apply to his company," I agreed with her. "But we won't use a connection. I want us to get into the Salvatore Group because of our own abilities and not just through the back door." "So it's settled. After we graduate we'll work at Phil's company," Yves said happily. "Look who's here, guys. It's my sister who climbs into an old man's bed to lift her social status," said an insulting voice from behind me. It was Lucy. And for sure, she had her friends with the same behavior as her. "What? Your sister climbs into an old man's bed? What a shameless woman!" I heard Lucy's friend comment. Her voice was loud and she was deliberately making it audible to the students in the canteen eating. "Do you hear any dogs barking, Yves? It's like I hear something," I pretended to ask my friend. Yves laughed at what I said and nodded. "You're right, Ceelin. There are dogs barking. Crazy dogs. And their breath stinks. They must have just come from scavenging food in the sewer." Lucy angrily dropped the tray of food she was carrying on our table. "Who are you calling a dog?" she asked with a snort. "Whoever barks is the dog," I answered Lucy bravely. My sister gets mad even more. "How dare you say that to me, Ceelin! Do you think climbing into an old man's bed would make you superior to me? In your dreams!" She pointed at me angrily. I picked up the glass of juice in front of me and threw it in Lucy's face without hesitation. She squealed and cursed at me. She lost her poise and classiness. Her friends immediately came to her aid and wiped the spilled juice from her clothes. "You're mouth is so dirty and you need to clean it up," I said firmly to my sister. "It looks like you just ignored my husband's threat to you the other day. Do you want me to call him and let him talk to you?" "You b***h!" Lucy shouted. I walked up to her and slapped her mouth. "Another bad word from your mouth and I wouldn't mind tearing your filthy mouth. And remember this, Lucy. I will hit you every time I see you so you better avoid me," I threatened her. Lucy's eyes were about to burst into flames with anger but she had no choice but to remain silent and just glare at me. She was scared that I might tell my husband about her bullying me again. "Why did you let her hurt you, Lucy? I thought your parents didn't favor her? Why didn't you retaliate against her? Your parents certainly won't scold you," one of her friends urged Lucy and her other friends agreed. "Sorry, guys. Lucy wouldn't do that. She's so scared of Ceelin's husband," Yves said to Lucy's friends. "What's so good about having an old man's wife? What are you bragging about?" Lucy's friend insulted me. "Whether I married an old man or not, Lucy knows best," I replied with a smile before I pulled Yves and left the canteen. Yves gave me a high-five as we walked away from Lucy's group. My friend was so happy like she had won the lottery. "Did you see Lucy's expression, Ceelin? She looks like she's eaten a lot of chili. Her face is red from suppressed anger." My friend laughed out loud. It was the first time she had seen me fight Lucy. Before, when my sister humiliated me in front of many students, I would just stay quiet and not fight back. I was afraid that if I fought back my parents would scold me and hurt me again at home. We were about to go to the next class when we met our male classmate in the corridor. "I've been looking for you for a while, Ceelin," he told me. "You're looking for me? Why?" I asked, frowning. Why is he looking for me? As far as I remember, we weren't close even though we sat close together. "Professor Hudson is calling you. He asked me to tell you to go to his old office," he quickly replied. "Prof Hudson's old office? Isn't that in the old building? Why did Prof call you there?" Yves also frowned as she asked. "I don't know. He probably has something to show you in his old office. Just go so you don't have to ask me any more questions," our classmate answered in an irritated tone. "You go back to the classroom first, Yves. I'll follow you later. I'll just go see Prof Hudson for a moment. Maybe he just needs my help moving his things to his new office," I said to Yves. "I will come with you so we can go to our next class together," Yves suggested. "No need. I won't be long. You go first and save me a seat for me." I hurriedly went to the old building to our professor. His old office was downstairs so I didn't have to go up. When I opened the door into Prof Hudson's old office, I immediately saw that there was no one inside. I just shake my head. That classmate of mine was throwing a prank at me. I was about to turn around and leave since there was no one inside when suddenly someone pushed me from behind. That person pushed me so hard that I fell onto the empty chair. My head hit the chair and my vision suddenly went black and I lost consciousness.
