Do You Remember?

“Do you always go through people’s belongings?” He jumped and turned around. "Sorry I wanted to see what you were drawing and I figured you were still upset with me, so I wanted to see before I left." Dai explained. "If you stay we can look and talk over my drawings if you like." "I'll stay if you share your food." I looked at my food then back at him. I sighed, "Yea that's fine. Let me sit down." Dai moved out of my way and sat down. “So you draw?” “I think we figured that out already.” I laughed, “But yea I draw like dresses and outfits, nobody was supposed to see them.” “Why not? They're great.” Dai softly said flipping through my sketches. “Thank you.” I say feeling my face warm-up slightly. “Have you ever thought of bringing your designs to life?” Dai asked. “I already have. Look at the top right corner of the page there's a cursive D for ones I've made.” pointing to the cursive D. “You've never worn them have you?” I shook my head. “I think you should show it off. You have talent not that I care or anything I'm just saying.” Great the bad boy persona returned. I rolled my eyes at his words. “Thanks,” I said eating my food, “I began drawing out somethings when you came. It's been a while since I've last drawn a design out. I usually showed my designs to my grandmother.” Dai stopped stuffing his face and looked at me, “I stopped drawing designs when my mom moved out of here and I just stopped, Sunny Hill always gave me some type of inspiration it was weird. I traveled in different parts of the world, all beautiful in its own right, but nothing gave me inspiration like Sunny Hill.” I ended with a shrug and played with my food before eating it. He didn't say anything, but his eyes did, I don't know what they were telling me but for some reason it made me feel better. “Sunny Hill will do that to you. At least you're back now right?” “Yea and I'm glad to be back. I don't like the school system outside of Sunny Hill.” I say rocking back and forth excitedly. “It certainly is unique,” he said with a smile. You can say that again. The school system in Sunny Hill isn't like anywhere else. At the end of each year, high school students are allowed to pick an abroad program of their choosing and build up their resume and other stuff. I've loved to been able to go to highschool for the past three years to do this, but I left right before entering elementary school so I was never able to experience the gap year trip for the past three years as Estella would but that's fine I have other stuff. “You said you lived here before right? When did you move away?” “When I was twelve, Estella was eight at the time when we first moved away. So I've only been gone for six or so years.” I shrugged. “You still have a white birthmark in your hair right?” I choked. How did he know that? “I'm sorry but how did you know that?” I usually keep it covered with my hair. When I was younger I left it out cuz I didn't know any better, I haven't mentioned it to anyone. Well, that's not exactly true, I told my little group of friends. “When you used to wear your hair out there was a little patch of white hair peeking out.” Dai came closer to me and felt around in my hair before finally pulling out my patch of white hair that wasn't white at the moment. “You started dying it?” I nodded. “Not permanently, just temporary dyes so I don't have to tuck it in.” I took the hair out of his hand. My hair mark was behind my right ear. It started at the top of my ear and went down to my shoulder, “But how’d you know where it was?” I reached up to touch his hand. He played and twisted the hair in between his fingers then started saying, “I always found that hair mark of yours interesting and beautiful. It made me feel normal because as you can see I have white hair a full head of it.” I went to school with this guy and I can't even remember. Wait no I do remember. I just never called him Dai or Daisuke. “Lightning? I used to call you that.” Dai nodded, “You remembered me and didn't say anything? Do the others know me from middle or elementary school?” once more Dai nodded his head. I'm starting to remember now. “I remember now. I called Honey, Bee. I called you Lighting. I called Rodas, Rosie, and Ezra, I called him something Greek I forget what. I have a picture of all of us in my sketchbook. Pass it here.” Dai nodded and gave me my notebook. I flipped to the back of my sketchbook, “Here.” I handed him the sketchbook and he smiled. “Sometimes I forget Rodas was a girl. At least he's happier now. Rodas always looked so sad.” rubbing his thumb over Rodas’ picture. “Ezra had baby fat now look at him.” I said. “He was determined to lose that baby weight. He no longer wanted to be known as Thunder Clap.” “People were so mean to him. Bet they regret that s**t now.” Dai nodded. “I’d like to point out that our roles kinda reversed as we entered high school. Honey was the emo goth kid in elementary and I was the pure innocent looking one. That is utterly hilarious.” “I don't even know what to say except I'm sorry for not remembering right away.” He only shrugged. “We aren't mad or anything. We didn't recognize you right away either. We only started realizing it was actually you because of your mannerisms and well you being you. You haven't changed a bit. Except for the hair mark, but it's still you.” “Do you remember?”
