Chapter 4

CHAPTER FOUR

Ava was still reeling from the shock of what she had just heard, she couldn't believe that Nathaniel liked her.

“You like me? No wonder…” she shook her head, realization dawned on her, no wonder he had slept with her under the guise of being drunk.

“No wonder what?” Nathaniel asked, confusion written all over his face

“I was drunk that night, were you? Or did you plan all these so as to fulfill your disgusting urges” Ava suddenly asked.

The confusion on Nathaniel's face increased “I wasn't drunk Ava but I was drugged, I wasn't in my right senses, I swear to God Ava I didn't plan for any of this to happen '' Nathaniel protested.

Ava splashed the already cooled down beverage on his face “is that all you have to say to me? You literally ruined my life and everything I have worked hard for gone down the drain just because of you!I f*****g hate your ugly face don't you ever appear in front of me anymore” she yelled and stood up from the chair, she walked out of the cafe.

“Ava listen to me, it's not how you see it” Nathaniel said running after her, he made it hold her arm but she swirled back and brushed him off, her palms landing on his cheeks harshly.

There was a loud pa sound and sudden stillness and quietness.

Ava was guilty for what she had done but she strengthened her heart, she wasn't going to apologize for anything.

“Stay away from me Nathaniel, respect yourself and your position as the heir of the Clinton family, I don't want to have anything to do with anyone from your family anymore” She said in a final tone and strutted off.

Nathaniel watched her departing figure, a defeated look in his eyes, he was not one to give up but Ava's reaction and her conclusion that he was the one that had planned for them to have s*x hurt him so bad.

He wasn't such a despicable person.

ONE MONTH LATER

Ava peered at the reflection of herself in the mirror, a proud smile on her face, she had changed greatly.

Her previously long black hair was now cut into a bob style to match the looks of the string carrer lady she was portraying.

The dark blue suit she was wearing clung to her body, revealing her hourglass figure.

“What are you still doing inside there Ava! isn't it time for you to head to the company?!” Ava heard her mother scream.

Ava shook her head, “disadvantages of living with a hyperactive mom” she mumbled to herself, knotting her tie carefully.

A few minutes later,she was done dressing up, she picked up her bag that was on the bed and walked out of the room, the sound of her heels making clicking sounds on the floor.

“And there goes my baby” Eve hollered immediately she sighted Ava walking towards the dining room where the family usually had all their meals together.

“Good morning mom” Ava greeted, plastering a kiss on Eve's cheeks, she pulled out a chair and sat on it, her hands reaching for the jar of peanut butter.

“Where's Dad?” Ava asked, smearing the peanut butter on a slice of bread.

“He went to the company, according to him some potential investors are coming today, so you know how important it is to him” Eve said dropping a mug of coffee on the dining table, Ava stretched out her hands and picked it up, taking a huge gulp

“Oh yeah I remember,he told me about that a few days agox Ava said, munching on the bread heartily.

When she was done, she stood up from the chair and bade goodbye to her mother, leaving the house hurriedly.

After her breakup with Joseph and the entire fiasco with Nathaniel, Ava resigned from the company which she owned and where she worked with Joseph then she had begun to work in her parent's textile company.

It wasn't actually a big or multimillion dollar Company but business was booming and moving.

In fact you could say that it was a promising upstart in their area.

“I just don't like her, she keeps on acting too bossy” A female voice said bitterly.

Ava who was about to flush the toilet she had just finished using paused,her hands still on the flush button.

“Me too,she keeps on spitting out orders like she is the one that gave me this job,what made her sink she can order us around, is it because her father is the owner of this company” Another bitter female voice said.

Ava confirmed her suspicions, they were talking bad about her behind her back.

“What makes her think she is above others when she can't even keep a man” the first voice said scornfully and they both burst into laughter.

Ava clenched her teeth and flushed the toilet, she pushed the door of the cubicle open and walked out slowly.

“Nice one, I didn't know that I had all these bad qualities about me, any other thing I need to know?I might want to change the way I behave “ Ava said, crossing her hands as she stalked towards the two frightened ladies who were hurdling together.

She recognized one of them, she was the very person who she had promoted just last week.

“We were not talking about you mama, you probably misunderstood” one of them said timidly

Ava nodded her head “come to think of it i never heard my name from your mouth so.that might be true but the thing is that my father is the owner of this company, else I have a sister who I have no idea about” Ava said , walking straight to the faucet to wash her hands.

The two ladies stared at each other in shock, not believing what kind of trouble they had just landed themselves into.

Ava stood straight and stared right at them intensely and coldly

“Though this company might not be like the other company out there but here we prefer quality over quantity a d people like you don't deserve to be here , talking about your superior behind their backs while acting subservient in their sight, that's disgusting and shows that you won't hesitate to betray this company for your

own selfishness, go to Hr and take your last paycheck, You both are fired”
