Minding My Business

Eva's POV: I woke up wrapped in a blanket of warmth. After the best sleep I've gotten in days. Looking down, I saw a strong arm draped over my hip. What the f*ck!!! Sparks! JAXON?? Pushing his arm off and jumping out of bed "JAXON!" He barely stirred. "JAXON, WAKE THE H*LL UP!" He opens his eyes to find me staring at him, fuming. "What exactly do you think you're doing?" "Let me explain, please," while getting out of bed. "What are you doing in my bed?" "I wanted to talk to you, and I was going to wait, but" he trailed off. "But, what?" "Alistair said you were crying and" "Who?" "My wolf, he was worried, and he said your wolf went silent and we needed to find you." "Why are you in my bed Jaxon?" "We saw you tossing and turning, and" "And you got in my bed?" "Just to hold you for a minute," he said, walking towards me. I can feel the guilt rolling off of him. The mate bond is pulling me towards him more and more. "Stop! You need to get out." "You're my mate, and I want a chance to explain everything to you." "It's the middle of the night Jaxon; please leave." I pick up my phone and see that it's 4 AM, and training is at 5:30. "Okay, but please let's talk in the morning." I nodded, and he quietly left. This man and this bond are going to be the end of me. I should be happy, right? Glad that he wanted to talk? He did come all this way, but why am I still so furious despite the bond. I lay back down, waiting for training and instantly missing his warmth. I doubt I will be getting any more sleep. Jaxon's POV: I cannot believe I fell asleep! It just keeps getting better. Walking back to my room, I see movement in the dark hallway; I could tell that it was Nate from the scent. "How are you feeling?" "Already healing, where'd you go?" He asked, grinning. "Don't even start, Nate," walking into my room and dropping on the bed. "What did you do now, Jax?" "I went to see her and she was sleeping." Then, sighing, "I just wanted to be near her man, but I keep f*cking this up." "What happened?" "I got into bed with her just to hold her for a minute," "Without her knowing?" he interrupted. "Yes, but the worse part is I feel asleep. "Goddess Jax!" "I know! Look, I already feel like sh*t I don't need you to tell me." "Look, I don't know much about having a mate, but I know that you want her. So if you want her to give you a shot, I think you're gonna have to follow her lead on this. And go as slow or as fast as she wants." I cannot believe he's the voice of reason right now. Groaning. He's right, though; if I keep doing things my way, she'll never give me a chance. "Okay, I will follow her lead." "Good, and you're welcome." "For?" "Saving your relationship and being the best beta ever!" "Nate?" "Yeah?" "GET OUT!" "I'm going, I'm going," he said, laughing while walking towards the door. "Before I forget, trying starts in 45 mins, everyone who is willing can participate; Taylor and I are going, so you're going." "Why not!" "I'll be downstairs." I know almost nothing about this pack; going to training will be an excellent place to start. After laying in bed for a few more minutes, I headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth; a picture of us holding our mate flashed into my head. STOP IT. I hate when he puts thoughts in my head. I grabbed the water she gave me earlier and headed downstairs. As I reached downstairs, I heard voices: Nate, Taylor, the Moonlight beta, J and her mate, my mate's brother. Unfortunately, I never got his name, something with a D. You were in her room? Shouted through the mindlink. I looked at Nate, Don't look at me; I was minding my own business and eating those delicious croissants. She's my best friend, you don't think she told me! What were you thinking, Jax? That I wanted to hold my mate. Yes, I know it was wrong. Coming to training? Yeah. Don't be your usual selves; take it down a bit, all of you! She opened the link to the others. After a couple more croissants Nate, the Alpha, walked in. I don't know how he eats before training and still manages to be the best fighter there, besides me. "Good morning, everyone, Alpha Jaxon; I trust you had a good night's rest?" Does everyone in this house know? "Yes, thank you." Keeping that conversation short. Where is she? I am watching everyone else make small talk and she still hasn't come down. Maybe she doesn't train? Some ranked she-wolves don't. She could be one of those. The beta led the way to the training grounds. I saw a group of 200 wolves, some old and some young wolves; that's a lot of warriors for a pack their size. I caught her scent and saw her standing next to one of the she-wolves from the packhouse, the beta female. She's not even looking my way. This cannot get any worse. "Okay, everyone, we have some special guests here today, and they have joined us for training. Please welcome the Darkwoods Pack from Vermont; their Alpha, beta and gamma are here with us. Let's make them feel welcomed." After some polite clapping, he continues, "let's start with a 10-mile warm-up, followed by hand-to-hand combat. I expect everyone to make us proud." Cheering, the crowd took off after the ranked males. 10 miles! We only do a 7-mile warm-up; this pack is serious. The Darkwoods Pack members and I stayed close to the ranked Moonlight members. I see my mate running, wearing animal print leggings and a bright pink sports bra. She looks amazing, running effortlessly. I'm happy to see her here. Not that it mattered if she trained or not after the run. The moonlight pack warriors gather back at the training grounds. "Great job, everyone; I'm proud of all of you and the effort you made. Before we start with hand-to-hand combat, who would lie to demonstrate for our guests?" Started the Alpha. No one answers, "don't be shy; why don't we get a volunteer from Darkwoods?" I'm the alpha, so I volunteered, meaning the Alpha would like to volunteer, since I did. "Alpha Jaxon, thank you for volunteering." "Who would like to show the alpha how we do things at Moonlight?" A few hands go up, some of them she-wolves. "I will." I didn't have to turn to know who that voice belonged to. It was her; it was my mate.
