Evaluation

Amber Forest woke up and moaned as she shut off her Alarm. It was her 16th birthday, and she had the same nightmare again. She knew that it was a memory, as she had learned all about the night that the Vampires had destroyed the Royal Lycan Pack. It was the only time that what she saw could have ever occurred, as the m******e had occurred over the course of a week. What was the worst for her, was that since than, the Vampires had all but disappeared again. They had destroyed all 300 of the strongest Packs, and had made the lives of the surviving Wolves miserable as they were on more equal footing. As she got up she realized she felt indifferently than she had before, as she raced to get ready for training. She was a little disappointed, and when she got to the dining room she had already stopped thinking about it. "So are you excited?" Aunt Stacy asked as she handed Amber a steaming cup of coffee. "It's just a birthday, what is there to be excited about?" she asked sarcastically. "Well most hear their wolves today." Stacy replied knowing that she still had 2 years before she would gain her Lycan. "Maybe she is like me and likes a good prank." Amber said as she sipped the steaming hot liquid. Stacy laughed heartily as she turned back to the stove. "You still have time." Amber laughed, as she knew that most werewolves by now would be able to find their fated mate. 16 was young, while most found them at or near 18. "Not before I have to get to training." she said with a smile. She was excited for that. "Think you can make it without a Wolf?" Stacy asked challenging her. Amber stuck her tongue out at her Aunt making her laugh. "Uncle Mike taught me how to overcome that challenge." she said knowing he hated to be called that as he walked into the kitchen. "Happy Birthday little one, what are you today, 6?" he asked with a smile before she stuck her tongue out again and ran out the door with her pastry pocket in her hand. She was one of the fastest in the entire Pack, only the Alphas faster than she was. She ran to the training field, and got there just in time to slip into her spot for roll call. Everyone in the Blue Forrest Pack was required to train, the unranked first thing in the morning. She knew today she would be evaluated, tomorrow she would be one of the ranked warriors of the Pack. She was perfectly still as was expected during roll call, but was barely able to contain her excitement. She had worked hard, as she had known what she wanted since she was 5. Despite the spell her Uncle had cast, she remembered every detail of the night her world changed forever. Her name was skipped by the drill instructor, and knew he had assessed her yesterday. It was his trick to give them a neutral score, and he called the rest of them. "You know the drill, hit the course." he told them as Amber stood there. "Ms. Forrest, happy birthday. Are you ready for your evaluation?" David Hammer asked her with a smile. He was one of the few Royal Lycans who had survived, and had been one of the Instructors. "I am." she said still standing at perfect attention. It was her goal to go to the Wolf Academy, so she could be trained as an official warrior. She has focused her whole world on this goal, knowing only she wanted to kill all of the Vampires for what they had done. "We shall see, let us see your hand to hand skills first." he said as he lead her to the ring. As soon as she stepped in she felt him running at her, and she smiled as she gabbed the top rope and dropped to the floor. David saw the maneuver a moment too late, and found himself becoming tangled in the ropes as she stood back up in front of him. "Nice try." she said before she decked him across the chin and jumped back into the ring. He quickly untangled himself, glad that there weren't any spectators for this. "Been a long time since someone has managed that on me. Queen-" he said cutting himself off as he bowed to her. Amber caught what he was about to say, and smiled that her mother was the last one to get him with that. It was one of the first things she had learned if someone attacked her in a ring before she had entered. Her mother had taught her that. It was one of the few things Uncle Mike's spell hadn't taken from her. This time when he attacked it was more controlled, designed to test her abilities more than anything. He moved through maneuvers he knew she had already mastered, and was surprised that she had blown through the expert moves within the first few minutes. He switched to the Master mode, and began slowly increasing his speed. He pushed himself to the very limit of what a Wolf should have been capable, and Amber had yet to break a sweat. She was matching him move for move, and was getting a fair amount of counterstrikes that struck like lightning any time his guard dropped even a bit. Drops that had not been taken advantage of since the fall of the Lycan Pack. Only a few of them had survived the purge of Vampires, the last of them having banded together and nearly destroying the Vampires after the Royal Family had been obliterated. He shook the thought off, and kept pushing into the limits of what even a regular Lycan should have been capable of. "Show me what you have, unleash the beast." he commanded and almost instantly regretted it. As soon as she struck him the first time his eyes went wide. There was only one group of people that could move with the speed she was showing, and he had trained with the last man that had done this too him. Within a matter of 10 seconds she had struck him 8 times, the last sending him backwards onto his ass as she stopped and bowed to him. "It seems you have been holding back during training." David said as he looked at her without standing. "Apologies Master Hammer, I did not expect the surge of strength I felt." Amber said bowing her head with a smile on her face. David chuckled as he looked at her, trying to decide if he should voice his suspicion. "It is quite alright Princess, you have just given me hope." he said trying to goad her into revealing something. Amber however did not react much, but she knew where he was Lycan he could likely hear her heart beat accelerate. "What do you mean? The Royal Family was killed." she answered simply. David laughed as he stood, and stepped close to her. "Most would believe that, but two people I was very close too trained their daughter from the time she could stand. I watched as they trained her in very specific things, and even helped. You have shown maneuvers that each of them explicitly taught her, and you have abilities no mere Wolf would be capable of. If you have any further doubts, Selene." he told her as he listened carefully and heard her sharp intake of breath, and her heart rate spike. She looked up at him, and could see the smile on his face. "What do you want?" she asked feeling her anger surge. "To finish your proper training." he said with a smile. "You must be aware that you are capable of so much more." "Actually no, I do not remember most of that time." she said as he looked at her. "Merlin." he said simply nodding. "Keep this to yourself, we will talk tomorrow." he said as he walked out of the ring as she followed him. It had taken over 2 hours for all of the evaluators to finish with her, and she had passed each of the assessments. Some by the skin of her teeth, others she excelled in to the point she had established she was a Qualified Master. Anything involving combat, tactics, or weapons, she was now a Master. Her instructors had been surprised when she achieved Master level of them, as most of these evaluations barely produced what they would consider experts. She was eating breakfast when her friends joined her, and each was excited to hear how she did. "I don't know yet, but I have a good feeling I will get to do exactly what I want." she told all of them with a smile. "You want to be one of the warriors don't you?" Sam asked her with a smile. "Yup." she said making the p pop. "I hope you did better than you do at training. Don't you have to have a Wolf in order to join the warriors?" Kylee asked her from the end of the table. "I still have time, and if it ends that way, I can be given a training or tactics assignment." she said with a smile. "As for my evaluation, I don't think even Sam here did as good as I did." That made her friends laugh, as most of them had seen her struggle with some of the obstacles. "Well your obstacle course is next, and I for one intend to see this for myself." Sam said with his own smile. "As for better than me, Ha!" he exclaimed as he had achieved the top Expert tier in combat, tactics and weapons. He had the highest scores in hundreds of years.
