Chapter 12Russell and Theo November 3 Before they left, they straightened up their house. Theo and Russell swept and dusted, wiped down countertops, made sure all dishes, pots, and pans, were washed, dried, and put away, the bannister and railings cleaned and polished, bathrooms all clean, fresh sheets on the bed. Theo and Russell went for one last neighborhood walk, down the street, counting the mismatched trees, the number of houses and apartments in their row that were still inhabited, based on lights visible in windows.
