Janice Lance: Monday Blues

As the sunlight hit my face, I felt a lot more rested than I usually do. I didn’t really think much about it until I looked over at my alarm clock. It read 7:20 but it felt like it was saying,” So smart of you to wake up on time.” I got out of bed to do everything I usually do in a vain attempt to get to my bus stop on time. When I went downstairs, I grabbed a muffin and rushed through the door, only to see my bus leaving my stop. I went back inside and felt dread building up in my stomach.“Mom! I missed the bus!.” I decided to just rip off the band-aid and deal with the lecture as she drove me to school. My mom doesn’t let me walk to school since we moved here last summer. I didn’t really have much to lose by moving here, but my brother took it hard. Everyone liked him in our old neighborhood. He could do all kinds of sports and even showed me how to play a few. I’m pretty good at basketball, baseball, and track since he taught me. He had a lot of friends-even had a girlfriend. I used to think she was great. We were almost as close as sisters. I thought she was great for him but- I internally shook my head out of my thoughts and made myself remember to stop thinking about Jake. I heard my mother lecturing me and that I was already at school. I promised it would never happen again and rushed to my class.
