The girl of my dream
From one blot of wet droplets to another, I could now feel the drizzling rain run a race down my face.
The metallic smell of blood immediately chokes me before I know it, prompting me to jerk my eyes wide open.
I'm covered in mud stains, I notioned as I scanned my entire being. I'm covered in blood, not my blood as it would seem... I'm covered in death.***
"How did I get here?" I uttered to my fazed self as I slowly get up.
It's pitch black in the distance. I'm wary of no other sound but the gushing rain. However, I am met with the only lead where I could possibly find answers... Car tracks.
I slowly follow it, rapid succession of thoughts that cannot be quieted and continue without restraint follow as well...
Where am I? Have I been kidn*pped?? Was I left here for dead!!? WHY CAN'T I REMEMBER ANY f*****g THING!!???
My head hurts with all this overthinking and I feel so numb to the legs with every feeble step I take.
I don't even know how I'm able to walk. Everything feels so weird, like I'm in some kind of a dream.
The realization then hits me... It is a dream. A dream similar to this one that I've had one too many times.
One which depicts only scary outcomes... Tragedy was to befall again. But to whom?
I panic and quickly rummage through my pocket.
"February 15 20xx" I read in disbelief "3:07 a.m".
February 20xx?? This was way ahead of time.
There was an abrupt change in the grim atmosphere as footsteps approached from behind me.
I shudder at the unexpected gesture received by the tall dark haired figure. Hugging me all of a sudden like it was a norm.
Though I had winced at first, there was something soothing in this stranger's embrace.
The aura possessed by this person was relaxing, I thought as I sank into the newly found warmth amidst the cold and confusion.
I could tell, from the frame, that it was a she.
Her bossom presses softly against my back, I notioned. Her hands are wrapped around my neck. Not only that, she smells like strawberries... With a mix of something familiar.
"It's ok " she tightens her hold "I promise I won't die" her voice, sorrowful and clogged up with emotions.
Why would she say such?, I questioned as I just want her to equally find warmth in my embrace.
But as I am about to hold her, her grip loosens.
It's getting cold again-
I protest as she pulls away... 'Dont go '
My hand grazed on her back as she now falls to my side.
A sinking feeling washes over me when I take a look at the wet sensation I felt on my fingers as I barely touched her.
Blood?
It was raining harder now... The drops, as heavy as hail, could kill the smallest of animals with just one hit.
No matter, I proceeded to take a good look at she who laid unconscious, maybe dead, Infront of me.
"Hey" I mustered "wake up" shrugging her body over and over, but to no avail. Tears are now falling down my cheeks as I use my throbbing body to serve as a shield for this stranger.
Why am I crying?... Why don't I just go? Abandon her?? ... A part of me just wanted to feel that calming warmth once more... That's why.
"Wake up" I'd finally given up on hope when suddenly, I get that sensation of tranquil on my cheek.
"Casey" she called out, almost inaudible.
How does she know my f*****g name!?
"Casey" her voice becomes distorted the second time she calls.
And in the corner of my eyes, I can see it...The blue butterfly.
The one that appears everytime I have such a dream that seemed so shockingly real. The one that reveals itself to me only on cold, rainy, lifeless days like this one.
The one that symbolises tragedy was about to befall upon someone.
I follow it with my gaze, the hail like rain has no effect on the messenger of death. It simply passed through the creature's tiny body.
Was it a spirit?
"CASEYY" someone yells this time, abruptly bringing me back to reality.
I wake up, drowning in cold sweat. My heart is beating faster than it should but there's no wonder why.
I'd just seen a stranger at the brink of death.
My palms and armpits are equally drenched in sweat. I slowly inhale and exhale to ease my breathing. My entire body, however, is doing the opposite.
I then look around. It's just me and my room. The clock ticks on my nightstand -4:24 a.m-. I shake my head and try to still get some shut eye.
All the while convincing myself that it was just a dream.
"It's just a dream Casey "... "And even if it weren't, I have no idea who that girl is. Her death won't affect me-"
That is hard to believe considering I had cried for her in my dreams. Even protecting her with my own body ...
After few hours, someone shakes my body slowly, I jump back up and it is just my maid. "I apologize" she nervously says "I didnt mean to scare you"
I gulp "thats alright, don't worry about it"
My maid-Carla half smiles and pet my head. Carla hair is Ash brown and has it tight as a bun. She opens up the pink curtains "it's time for school"
"rare for you... To wake me up. I thought your my father personal maid" I bite my lips.
Carla sighs and glances at me "Your roots are growing, Guess you have to dye it" and leaves the room, ignoring me.
I remove the blanket and see both of my legs full of dirt and traces of blood. In a second, it disappears. Maybe I lost my mind after all.
I enter the bathroom, there is couple of dyes in the wall cabinet. I take out the blue dye and stare at my own reflection. My eyes look puffy and I start washing my face.
My hair looks gray except for the roots part, it is black. I'm too tired to colour it, so I exit the bathroom.
The closet is few inches away from the bathroom, I open it and take off my Pj's and dress a black shorts with a plain black crop top. I wear black converse. I look at the mirror across the corner of the room. Damn, I'm looking gay.
I get out of my room and hear some whispers coming down from his office. I quietly follow it, until I hear my father's voice.
"Carla, You better not tell casey about this, no one should know, okay?" He warns her.
I only can hear murmuring until the footsteps are approaching the door. So I quickly leave and head to the garage.
A bald old man is waiting for me in the car, he waves at me from the window.
I get in the back seat, he glances at me from the rear view mirror. "whats wrong, casey?"
I shurg "i dont know, uncle pete"
He opens the garage door by the remote control and starts the car engine. The car moves backwards until at a slow pace he starts to drive forward.
I rest my head to the car window. On my way to school, I'm not excited for it since my ex-Violet is going to be there, which will be pain in the a*s. She was really an obsessive ex, or maybe I was the problem for the relationship. Either way, it wasn't healthy and I'm glad that I ended it. I'm not exactly at a good mental state right now to face her. I might be in the wrong, but it doesn't really matter. It ended at the beginning of January and I haven't seen her since, Right now it's currently September 12;First day of school. I hope I don't get to see her today.
"How are you feeling?" Uncle pete asks me while he turns on the radio with low volume.
"I'm well. Why are you asking?" I question him, if someone checks up one me, usually it means there's bad news. I don't think I can handle that at the moment.
"ah nothing" he answers, obviously sounding like a lie. But I don't insist for the answer. If anything, I'm glad that he didn't answer me honestly.
Then we both are silent again. He takes a turn and drives straight through a tunnel.
I wonder who was that girl from my dream earlier today, It seems so real. Something was really familiar with her,
I'll just go with the flow once in my life.
The car parks outside the school building. It is crowded and i open the car door and shut it behind me. I start to walk to the main entrance, everyone stares at me and i let them. If they wanna talk s**t, let them be. I'm so tired of people trying to make me so insecure about everything I do, what I wear, what I say. At this point, I don't really care anymore.
I continue to ignore everyone and head to class. I open the door and the classroom is full of people. Everyone stopped talking and stares at me, At the corner of my eye i see a dirty blonde looking at me, I think thats violet. But, I choose to ignore her since I'm sure she's going to cause a scene to require my attention;maybe not now though.
Theres 4 rows and each has 8 desks, Violet usually sits beside the door-first seat. While I sit beside the window in the second seat in the last raw which is the fourth one.
I rest on my seat, while everyone starts to talk once again...thats weird.
I look around and catch Violet staring at me, She puts her hair behind her ear, knowing how cute I find it. I half smile and slowly turn around and look at the window instead, I sigh out loud. Maybe it is made all up in my head. Maybe I am the problem after all.
The bell rings and everyone gets back to their seat.
A short man-around 5'5 feet enters the class. Hes wearing a red shirt with black stripes and black ripped jeans. He wears glasses, his eyes are round and dark, He has a hooked nose and his lips are thin. The teacher has black fade cut and wears silver earrings with no beard.
"My name is Stanley but you can call me stan" he greets the class and sits on the teacher's table "You don't have to call me mister. I dont like formalities" Stan rubs his hands "So anyways ill be your new math teacher and before we start the class I want you all to greet the new student that has joined us today"
A girl opens the door, My jaw drops;recognising her just the way she walks. She's wearing a leather jacket despite it being hot outside;underneath it is a plain white shirt and is wearing a black jeans. Her hair is black and fluffy with a mullet haircut. She has the sleepy gray eyes. It is the girl from my dream.
Almost everyone starts to mutter, how could it be? I can't do this again. I can't save anyone anymore. I quickly start to panic, it hasnt even been 12 hours since I dreamt of her, I bite my thumb nail, This can't be happening; I begin to sweat and my legs start to shake.
I touch my legs and focus on my breathing-inhaling and exhaling.
Stan claps his hands "Class, this is Nina" he continues while he put his hand on the Nina's shoulder, He looks around the room and catches me staring. "name?"
I nervously swallow and introduce my self in a low tone "Ca..sey"
"Cassie?"
"Casey" I correct him, adjusting my posture
"Well, Casey,I heard you're the smartest student in this school, So you're taking care of Nina and her grades" he puts off the fakest smile "Make sure she feels welcomed"
He rubs Nina's back and whispers something into her ear and give her a little push. I have a bad feeling about him.
Nina sits beside me, The brunette gives me a quick glance then focuses on the teacher as he starts the lecture.
This is going to be the longest first day ever.
Three hours has passed and obviously I didn't concentrate to any of the class. I kept on watching Nina from afar, Everything feels so surreal. Less than 10 hours I have seen her in my dreams and now she's few feet away from me. She looks more prettier now than her filled with dirt.
"CASEY" i get back to reality and the english teacher-Mrs Smith is staring at me, I feel Violent eyes are on me, I glance at her;She gives me a sad smile. "Look at me while I'm talking to you" Mrs Smith snaps her fingers "Casey"
"Yes?" I clear my throat and rest my right palm to my chin
"Are you listening to me? God, Its the first day and already day dreaming?" She sighs loudly and continued "Your Father would be disappointed"
I roll my eyes "So I've heard"
The bell rings and it is time for recess. Mrs Smith shakes her head slowly and exits the class.
So much expectations and its already the first day. Just because I'm the smartest doesn't mean I can't get distracted.
Nina gets out of the class, I get up and follow her. Time to get to know her, maybe this time things will be different... Right?
I walk few inches behind her, She goes to the restroom. I wait for few seconds then enter it;it won't seem that I'm following her or anything.
There are few girls with blonde hair gossiping about which boy from the football team has the biggest d**k-gross.
"Can you all leave us alone?" a voice behind me says. Her voice sends me shivers down my spine, Haven't heard that voice since January.
The group of the girls just nods and get out.
I turn around and see Violet ocean blue eyes looking at me, she's crossing her arms. She's wearing the spike septum piercing that I gifted her back when we were dating. The blonde is wearing a white tank top and black cargo pants with grey mixed with white Jordan's shoes.
"Casey" She breathes loudly "You have been avoiding me for the most of the day"
I scratch my head "It's... Just..I... " I trail off and look at the restroom mirror, I meet her eyes by the reflection of it. "I dont want to talk, okay? Nothing personal. I just wanna be alone, please"
"okay, I understand" She looks down to the floor "if that's what you want, then I understand"
"thank..." then Violet shut the door. Not letting me to continue.
I wash my face and rub my eyes, then meet Nina's eyes from the reflection. I gasp and turn around "Jeez you f*****g scared me"
She gets closer to me, I can feel her hot breath against my face. She's much taller than me-I have to look up to her.
"What do you want?" Nina asks with a deep voice, still maintaining eye contact with me.
"what do you mean?" I ask her, we both not looking away from each other
"Don't answer a question with a question. You better answer me" Nina has a serious look on her face, but she doesn't scare me. I know these kind of people, they appear to be so strong but once you get to know them, they're so fragile with so much f****d up s**t. Like I'm the one to talk.
"What's in it for me?" I give her a smirk.
Nina backs down and pace around the room. Great, I pissed her off. She has anger issues-noted.
"You think this is a f*****g joke huh?"
I shurg and continue to stare at her with a smug on my face, Let's see how long it takes to provoke her.
"Soooo you think this is a joke?" She laughs and cover her mouth "Damn, you're really strange. But..." she claps her hands "Well, I think we got off in the wrong foot. I'm Nina" she offers her hand to me.
I shake my hand "Casey" seems she knows how to deal with people after all;in her own way at least. "Anyways, since Stan assigned me to teach you this school year. You better have it in my own way"
She pulls her hand and murmurs something under her breathe.
"Did you say something?"
Nina shakes her head "ill see you after classes ends in the school library" and gets out from the bathroom.
That wasn't my bad. She's such a vulnerable person and it shows by her personality. I just need time;I need time for everything.
I see a blue butterfly in the corner of the room. I really hope I'm on the right track this time.
