Chapter 5
LeighAnn was ignoring him. She knew he was behind her on the way in to their building. She had bern avoiding him like the plague ever since he told her about her scent and that literally stopped her in her tracks. She couldn't breathe for several minutes and she knew that if he felt that way about her scent, then he knew what she didn't want to acknowledge. He didnt know she was a wolf though, or at least not to her knowledge. She tried so hard to hide that from everyone except Sophia. Sophia was her confidant and LeighAnn told her about Hoyt the day he arrived.
*Flashback*
"So hes your..what do y'all call it?" Sophia plopped down on the couch next to her and looked all jittery. She was such a romantic and it was obvious in the shows and movies Sophia watched. LeighAnn rolled her eyes, and threw a small pillow at Sophia.
"Mate. He is my mate, but I don't want to even acknowledge it right now." At those words, Emerie, LeighAnns wolf whimpered in the back of her mind. "Why can't we acknowledge it? You are being so selfish right now." Emerie cried. "I don't want to be tied down right now Emerie. We have talked about this, I need to be able to be me for a while longer before I have to settle down." I calmly reminded my wolf.
"uh, LeighAnn?" Sophia waved her hand in front if her face. "You okay?" LeighAnn jumped and laughed. "Yeah I'm sorry, just having a mild argument with Emerie. She is mad I dont want to acknowledge him right now." Sophia just laughed and started watching her show. "Maybe you should listen to Emerie, after all isnt she like your conscious?" Sophia just shrugged her shoulders as she said it, which earned another small pillow being thrown at her.
*Present*
Walking through the door, LeighAnn heard Hoyt come in right behind her. She just kept walking even when he tapped her on the shoulder. She felt the sparks even through her clothes, but she was not giving in to him. She got to the time clock and placed her card in. She placed her card back on the table and turned around right into a broad chest. She knew exactly who it was, his scent and sparks were there and she instantly turned red.
"Oh, excuse me Hoyt. I did not mean to run into you." She tried to step to the side, but he took a step to the side in front of her, and she was getting frustrated. "Hoyt, please move out of my way." She looked up at him and saw a smirk all over his face. He was doing it on purpose and she knew it.
"Oh, I apologize LeighAnn. I was just trying to clock in as well." He finally stepped to the side and let her pass as he clocked in himself. He couldn't help but chuckle at her. LeighAnn ignored his chuckle and walked into the breakroom to eat her breakfast and catch up on some reading.
Hoyt walked in a few minutes later, and she noticed that Abigaile was clung to his arm. This instantly made her growl and her wolf whimpered loudly in her mind. Hoyt glanced at her and he smirked again. Oh is he arrogant! She was irritated now. She knew he was doing that on purpose to get something out of her. "Hoyt, would you like to come to my house for dinner tomorrow night?" Abigaile cooed loudly just to make sure LeighAnn knew she was trying to make her claim.
LeighAnn got up and threw her biscuit away. "Wow. Good way to ruin an appetite early in the morning. Maybe y'all should get a room and make it official instead of just dinner." Abigaile gawked at her, and Hoyt looked utterly shocked. LeighAnn just walked by them and down the hall into the locker room. She slammed her bag down, and unlocked her locker. Seething the whole time. She despised Abigaile. She wanted to slap her for touching Hoyt, but she knew she couldnt because Abigaile did not know what a mate was.
LeighAnn sighed and took a deep breathe, willing her anger to go away. She didnt want to be tied down, is that not what she told Emerie? Why would she get so upset if she didnt want to be that way? The mate bond was the only thing she could think of. She had to keep it together or Hoyt would definitely try to mark her and then she would be done for.
One thing for sure LeighAnn knew now. She was utterly jealous of another woman touching her mate. That was a hard truth for her to swallow.
