Chapter 4
Hoyt woke up in a confused state. He had been having a recurring dream for the last few days since he started his job in the human world. He didnt have to have this job. He just needed something to do besides looking for this girl that his father had told him was important to the pack. She had been missing for three years, and his father was adament about finding her. He did not want this arranged marriage anymore than this girl did, yet he was being sent to find her even after three years.
Hoyt kept picturing the dream. It was something he had learned in his history classes at school and he was astonished that it actually stuck with him. The black and silver wolf, one of the rarest wolves to exist, they were also known as the Black Ghost. In history, they were above all others, being they had powers that no one else possessed. What they were, no one knew. They were told to be extinct, and that there were no descendants. So why was he having this dream, and why did the wolf seem so familiar to him? He knew the wolf was a female, but she was twice the average size of a female wolf. Her eye color was purple with specks of yellow, red, and black in them. She had a black diamond on her face, the hair on her back was shaded between silver and black, and the tip of her tail was black. She was gorgeous. In the dream, she had looked right at him, and howled. It wasn't a howl of alert, or of concern. He actually thought she had smiled at him when she looked back at him. That was the last thing he saw right before he woke up.
Hoyt made his way into the apartment kitchen. He made some coffee and rummaged through the fridge to find some breakfast. He might be an Alpha, but he knew how to cook even though there were people in the Howling River pack that cooked for the whole pack. He did not want to grow up helpless. He made some eggs and drank his coffee while standing in the kitchen. He just couldnt get the wolf out of his mind. He had to find her, and he had to find this girl that his father was so obssessed with. He left his apartment in a huff, and made his way out the door.
His drive took thirty minutes. He was listening to some music and enjoying the view when his father mind linked him. "Have you found her yet?" His father was the most impatient man he had ever met. Alpha Conner was the most difficult man to deal with when it came to his family, his pack and his duties. "Father, I just arrived a week ago. I got a job where I found another wolf. She doesn't know that I know, I'm working on it." He quickly blocked the link so he could avoid a more lengthy conversation. His father will surely give him an ear full the next time they talked.
When he arrived at work, he knew she was there. He could smell her scent and it still enraged his wolf that Hoyt hadnt told her that she was his mate. He didnt want to scare the girl. He was intrigued by how she had hidden herself from the werewolves in the human world for so long. He knew that if he found the girl that he was sent to look for, that his father would demand the he bring her home to marry. He didnt want that. He wanted his mate. LeighAnn was quite a ways ahead of him. She had headphones in and was humming to a song that he actually liked. He sped up just a little bit to see if he could hear it through her headphones, and then she started singing.
"found you when your heart was broke I filled your cup until it overflowed took it so far to keep you close I was afraid to leave you on your own said id catch you if you fall and if they laugh then f*ck them all and then i got you off your knees put you right back on your feet just so you could take advantage of me" "Tell me how it feels sitting up there feeling so high but too far away to hold me baby im the one who put you up there name in the sky does it ever feel lonely thinking you can live without me"
Hoyt hummed along behind her and he couldnt believe she had such a strong beautiful voice. She was full of surprises even though he knew her biggest secret. The werewolf side of her that he noticed she tries so hard to keep hidden. He could sense her wolf, and she didnt know he knew, but surely she knew he was one since he told her he loved her scent. Her reaction was priceless, she had gone completely speechless when he said that.
That was a week ago and she has been trying to avoid him since. This morning however, Hoyt was going to initiate conversation with her to see if she inadvertently tells him her secret. He smiled to himself. He just needed to figure out when that time would be.
