Chapter One
Once upon a time, one bright morning, a boy sat in a corner front of the lawn. His head was thrust up and his gazed fixed up the sky. He watched the flock of bird as they displayed some of their acrobatic feats.
Suddenly a bird glide down, then it meander, changing direction. Suddenly, the bird hovered. A moment later it begins gliding down. It came very low and hovered in front of the boy. As he stretched a hand to catch it, it flew away, the boy chased after it. He prayed and hoped the bird would tire out and fall to the ground. He loved birds, and he has always wanted to own one as a pet. Although, he was getting tried, he kept on the chase.
Suddenly, it flew into a compound and perched on the shoulder of a girl, “how are you Kyle?” the girl asked with a smile “pip! Pip! pip!” chirped the bird.
The boy ran into the compound and on sighting the girl with the bird perching on her shoulder, he stood still. His gaze went from the girl to the bird. The girl could see the surprise in his eyes, she called out to him, “come”. The boy walked towards her in fear and also slowly, picking his step as if he was counting every step he was taking. When he was close enough he stopped, he made sure he left some space between them to allow him escape in case of any emergency, “what is your name?” the girl asked
“Ken,” he answered
“What are you doing here?” she asked
“The bird…” he said, and stopped short
“What about the bird,” she asked with her gaze fixed on his face
“I want it,” he answered
“Do you own it?”
“No. but I like it and that’s why I chased it here,”
“The bird’s name is Kyle,”
“Pip! Pip! Pip! ” chirped Kyle as if trying to affirm what the girl had said.
“Kyle has been my friend for over two years,” the girl said
Kyle chirps “pip”
“Do you like Kyle?”
“Yes,” the boy answered
“Would you like to be our friend, “she asked
“Yes,” he answered
The girl smiled, “come ken, sit here “the boy walked towards them and sat down, “my name is pat,”
Kyle chirped, “Pip!”
“Kyle said that is true. Kyle will welcome you now. Kyle welcomes our new friend”
Kyle flew off and did some acrobatics after which he perched on ken’s shoulder, ken pat him on the head and he chirped. And pat and ken smiled.
“Pat!” a voice called
Pat turned to ken, “that my aunt calling, see you some other day,”
Then she took to her heels. The bird flew into the tree in the compound and ken ran out of the compound.
