Chapter 10

1033 Words
Maddison's POV The interview day had finally arrived. I had worked every night at the club, figured that if I by some miracle I did land my first office job then I would need as much cash to tide me over until my first pay day. Cara had taken the news pretty well actually that I was actively searching for an office based position with promotion opportunities and she had even accompanied me on a shopping trip to get some smarter clothing. Our feet were killing us at the end of the it. That girl can is literally the meaning of 'shop til you drop'. I had showered, dried my hair and pulled it back into a neat ponytail then applied light, subtle make up in nude shades. I had chosen a black skirt suit that fit perfectly, matched it with a an off white silk blouse and finished the look with a pair of 5 inch heels. I checked myself over in the mirror and barely recognised myself. I looked like a proper grown up for once. I lightly dabbed perfume on my wrists and just behind my ears before grabbing my bag and walking to the train station. I could see other commuters heading there too with a coffee in one hand, phone in the other. I purchased a ticket into the city. The train was already on the platform so I jumped on and found a seat. Once I had settled and double checked which station I would get off at, I pulled the latest book I was reading from my bag and opened it at the saved page. I loved to read, reading was one of my passions. I had hoped to study English Lit at University but the universe had different plans for me it seems. Every now and again I would look up and check which station we had stopped at, I hadn't been to the city in a long time. My parents would take me often as a child to museums and parks, those memories I will keep with me forever.  The train finally came to a halt and we were here, Fenchurch St station. The whole place was bustling. People pushing and shoving trying to get to where they needed to get to. I got dragged along in the hoard until we exited the station into fresh air. The noise and atmosphere hit me and it was so different to the town I lived in. According to my maps on my phone the office block wasn't far from here and I could walk it in five minutes. I grabbed a coffee from the vendor outside the station and headed for my appointment. A short walk later and I had arrived, standing outside a towering office block with a huge sign ' Black Holdings Ltd'. I finished my coffee and popped the paper cup in the bin outside and made my way up the steps to the huge glass entrance way. Once inside the cool air hit me from the air conditioning and my heels clicked on the shiny marble floor. It looked more like a luxurious hotel than a business premise.  " Can I help you Miss?" Said the petite brunette woman behind the reception. " Erm, yes, I have an interview at 9.30 this morning ". " Ah, yes, Mr Black is expecting you. Grab the lift, you need 15th floor " She replied. I was going to meet 'the' Mr Black, now I was super nervous. My mouth had gone dry but that could have been the coffee, my palms were clammy too. And don't think I hadn't had an inner chuckle to myself with Mr Black and Miss White. The receptionist pointed the way to where the lifts were located and I made my way towards them. There were a few people standing about in conversation and they looked up at me as passed them by and smiled. How friendly I thought to myself and smiled back politely. The lift doors opened and I entered. Pressed the 15th floor button and held on to the hand rail. I hated lifts with a passion, they frightened me, especially on the way down. The ride was smooth and within seconds the elevator made a 'ding' sound and the doors opened. I was greeted by another receptionist as I exited the lift. " Miss White ?"  " That'll be me " " Right this way please, Mr Black is waiting for you " I followed her down a corridor with offices that lined either side. You could see everyone with the floor to ceiling windows. As we walked I noticed how some looked up but dropped their gaze when I caught their eye contact.  " Here we are Miss White, good luck " and she smiled at me before walking back the way we came from before I could even thank her. The doors to this office were thick heavy wood. I knocked twice softly in case they made a horrendous noise.  " Enter " the deep voice from behind the doors commanded. My tummy did flips. 'Here goes, Maddy' I said to myself. I opened the door, entered the room and closed the door behind me. Mr Black was in his office chair with his back facing me and his desk. He appeared to be looking out on the view of the city. I edged close to the desk and stood by the chair that awaited me. " Take a seat please Maddison" I knew that voice. He turned his chair to face me. He just oozed s*x appeal. His hair was a little messed up which I loved, his top button undone on his crisply ironed white shirt, his skin was sun kissed and those eyes! Arghh my body betrayed me again. My heart hammered in my chest. I wanted to run but no I had become intrigued. He wasn't a human trafficker after all but a legitimate business man, a very successful one at that too by the looks of this office building. I was completely staring and he just sat there smirking at me.  " We need to talk Maddison ".
