"What are you up to today?" Mum asked as I made my way into the kitchen on Saturday morning. It was the first real thing she had said to me all week.
"Aria and I are going to watch Paul's football game." I answer.
"Oh nice!" Mum was trying to go back to how we were before my seventeenth birthday but I don't know if we could ever get back there. "Your Dad and I were going to head down too but he got caught up with another Alpha." She adds.
"I'll let you know how Paul plays." I reply just as Paul strolls into the room.
"Bacon and egg roll with the lot, thanks Mum!" He orders with a big smile on his face.
"Are you really sure that is what you should have for breakfast before a big game?" I ask mockingly while Mum starts to plate up the food. It was Paul's usual football morning meal so she had it ready and waiting for him.
"Good for stamina Wils!" Paul says while flexing his muscles for added effect.
"Sounds like a heart attack to me." I mutter. I drink my orange juice and grab a banana. "Are you heading to the game soon? Aria and I might catch a ride with you?" I ask Paul.
With a mouthful of bacon and egg roll Paul replies, "Yep, all good." Some of the egg yolk running down his chin.
"Paul!" Mum groans at him, "Come on Honey. A little bit of manners wouldn't kill you!" She moans, handing him a serviette to clean himself up.
"What time are you leaving?" I ask when he had removed the egg from his face. He holds up ten fingers indicating he was leaving in ten minutes. Perfect. Aria was already on her way.
"Ready for us to kick those Goliath Football players butts?" Paul questions me. I roll my eyes. I didn't realize it was a Red Wood vs Goliath match. This was going to be interesting. I wonder if Grey would be there? He hasn't been at school.
"Gonna be a great game! Sorry I have to miss it!" Mum chimes in, "I'm sure I'll hear all about it!"
*knock* *knock* *knock*
"That'll be Aria. We'll meet you outside?" I ask Paul. He nods his head in response.
"Have a nice day!" Mum calls out too sweetly. She must be feeling bad for how she reacted. They literally blamed me for the mate I had no choice in. To them, it appears like I have been following their wishes and keeping my distance. If only they knew that Grey was in my every thought, every day. I was completely begilled and obssessed. If Grey hadn't completely disappeared recently, who know what could have happened...
I grab my bag as I walk out the door to meet Aria.
"Hey!" Aria calls when she sees me come down the porch. "Ohh, you look hot! I am loving the daisy dukes and Pink Floyd tee!" She compliments. I blush.
"I always love that dress." I return the compliment. Aria was wearing her tight, blue dress that accentuated her thin figure and full bust.
"Footy players are my weakness, you know that!" She laughs.
"Paul is going to give us a lift there." I state, "Save us from catching the bus."
"Awesome!" Aria exclaims. "We can bag a good spot!"
"Right! We all ready?" Paul calls as he walks across the lawn to his car. Aria squeals with excitement.
"I'm ready all right!" She giggles while sliding in the back seat of the car. I sit in the front passenger seat beside Paul. It is only a 10 minute drive to the oval.
The oval is already getting busy. Everyone is keen to see the rivals fight for it on the footy field. Aria and I have set up our picnic rug and fold out chairs on the grass opposite the teams tents. We have our mini eski with cold drinks and some snacks. We were set for the match. I felt nervous and anxious about seeing Grey. I knew he played for the Goliath team but didn't know whether he would even be here.
It wasn't long until the teams ran out onto the oval for warm-ups. I searched through the players to find Grey.
"There he is." Aria says, pointing to just in front of the Goliath goals. Grey was in his football uniform, his hair its usual disheveled style, and shoulder strapped up. My heart began to race just seeing him. It was fighting the urge to run out onto the oval and embrace him. Shay was pacing back and forth knowing he was so close. Grey catches my gaze and winks. I feel my whole body blush.
"Well, well, well..." Aria giggles. "I don't think I've ever seen such a bright shade of red before." She laughs at me. I groaned at her and try to calm myself down.
Just before the end of the first quarter, Paul is knocked out and taken to the pack hospital to be checked out. This was going to be a rough game - both teams were out for blood and the umpires were not game enough to try to control it.
The Goliath team won by four points at the end of the game. Aria and I began packing our stuff up as the teams head back to their changerooms.
"Willow?" Aria interrupts me. She jots her head in the direction of the oval. I look to where she is indicating. Grey is walking across the grass towards us. I can see Juliet standing on the opposite side of the oval. If looks could kill, I would be dead.
I walk towards him closing the space between us.
"I''m not sure if I should say good game considering your team knocked my brother out." I state light-heartedly.
"I was surprised to see you here. You don't seem like the football type." Grey says as he reaches me.
"I was surprised to see you here since you haven't been at school." I remark, "What do you think I would be into?" I question.
"Sorry, Dad needed my help with the pack. I didn't have any way to tell you." He explains. I feel a bit bad for being annoyed at him. "And I don't know, books and stuff?" He finishes.
I scoff at him. "Books and stuff?" I roll my eyes, "I don't mind watching the footy, but Aria likes looking at the players." I answer.
"Ahhh!" Grey replies, "So are you coming to the human party tonight?" He questions, shuffling from foot to foot nervously.
"I think so. Aria really wanted to go. You?" I ask, trying to be cool.
"Yep were going. I really hope I see you there." He whispers truthfully, "I actually wanted to give you my number just in case you ever wanted to message me. I know you said you were forbidden from talking and seeing me but hoped maybe you would change your mind?" Grey's eyes filled with hope. I handed him my phone to type in his phone number and held my hand out to type mine into his phone.
"I didn't think you would want to give me your number too?" He says surprised.
"Let's be honest, I don't know how much hope I have trying to stay away from you." I reply honestly. My response makes Grey smile from ear to ear. It takes every part of me to stop myself from running to him.
"Hey Grey!" Aria calls out from behind me. I blush as I am reminded of her being there.
"I better go." I say as I turn to walk back to Aria.
"I'll be looking for you tonight." Grey says, "And wear those shorts! They are amazing!" He teases flirtaciously. I giggle as I walk back to Aria.
When Grey is walking back inside the Goliath changerooms Aria turns to me seriously.
"So what are you going to wear tonight?!" She asks excitedly.
I groan at her.
