Freya
"Do I know you?" Galen and Revan's father asked.
"No, I don't believe so," I answered.
"You're not from around here?" he asked next.
"No," I said softly. He looked me over and then just walked away.
"Having fun?" Galen asked.
"I should be going," I told him. "It's getting dark."
"Are you afraid of the dark?" he asked. I smiled.
"No," I said simply.
"Please stay a little longer," Galen requested.
"Just until the moon hits the sky," I replied.
Galen took my hand and introduced me to more people. Revan with playing with his younger brothers. My glances always returned to him and I hated that. I didn't want to betray my own heart but I could not bear having him so close. A few more minutes passed and I could feel the moon rising in the night sky. The entire sky suddenly glowed red. The moon itself was a dark crimson. Galen was distracted talking to some of his friends. I slipped away and headed to the forest.
"Hey wait up," Revan said. I didn't want to turn around and look him in the eyes. "Are you leaving?"
"Yes, I have to go," I said quickly. I began to move my feet but Revan reached out and grabbed my wrist. "Revan," I whispered his name but I am sure he heard it. Revan tugged on my arm and turned me around so I could face him.
"Why?" Revan whispered before he pulled me in for a kiss. "Why do I feel like I know you?"
"Revan,"
"I do, don't I?" Revan's pleas hurt me. I was erasing his memory for my own selfish reasons.
"I'm sorry," I pushed him away and run into the forest.
"You made it just in time," it was an earth fairy. "Hi again, Freya."
"Hello, I am glad you made it. I am so happy to see you again," I said. I reached my house and there were so many fairies. All shining bright in so many different colors. We talked and played some games. It was a fun night until we heard the howling. The howls of the dark lycans filled the sky. It frightened me. Why wouldn't it? They were killers and ruthless creatures who cared for no one but themselves.
"We should hide," one of the earth fairies said. The others agreed.
"What about the villagers?" I asked.
"They should have known better than to go outside," one fairy answered.
"But," all I could think about was Revan and his family. No one deserved to die because they didn't believe in this type of thing. The lycans are monsters who would tear them to pieces.
"You should go inside and hide too," the fairy added. "You know the lycan king likes to toy with you." I thought back to the first time I encountered the lycans. They didn't know what I was. They knew I was human but they also knew I was blessed by the Earth Mother. The Lycan King came forward and showed me his male form. He told me to go with him. He wanted to learn more about my powers but I refused. I had stayed hidden ever since. His voice and tone always sent chills down my spine.
Suddenly, I heard screams coming from the village.
"Run," the earth fairy said. I took a deep breath and run inside. I prayed that Revan and his family would be okay but I couldn't do anything for them. I also couldn't expose myself or my powers to them. Who knows what they would do to me? Humans could be just as ruthless as lycans when they wanted to be.
I put a strong barrier around my home and put myself into a deep sleep so I wouldn't hear a thing. Was I cruel for this?
The next morning, I hesitated to go to the village but I knew I had to. Once I made it to the village, it was like a ghost town. No one was outside. Which was rare since everyone here seemed so lively.
"Freya," Galen called. "Are you okay?" Galen ran to me and grabbed both my hands. "I was so worried I would have gone to check on you but."
"Freya," Revan called his voice was softer and seemed to be filled with sorrow.
"Our brother Arthur and sister Georgina were attacked last night. We don't know what those things were but," Galen started. I could see the anger boiling in his eyes.
"Are they?" I couldn't finish what I was going to say.
"They are hurt but they will live," Galen said. Revan looked hurt and worried. It must have been bad. I could only imagine what they saw.
"I am so sorry," I said.
"Hey, it's not your fault," Galen said as he caressed my cheek. "You did try to warn us. Right?" Revan was staring at us like he wanted to smack Galen's hand away from my face. "I don't think I can spend the day with you but I want to see you again."
"Okay, I just wanted to make sure you guys were okay," I told him.
"We are," Galen smiled. I looked at Revan and gave him a gentle smile. I walked back home after that. The night of the blood moon was not what I thought it would be. I knew there was always a chance some dark creature could come out during this night but I didn't ever want that to happen.
"What are you, woman?" the dark harsh tone startled me.
"Mr. Coventry," I greeted. "Why are you here?"
"I saw you and my son," he said.
"Galen?"
"Ha," he laughed. "No, not that son."
"Revan," I thought. I erased his memory but he must have seen us last night.
"I bet Galen doesn't know. What kind of w***e goes after two brothers?" he said. I stayed quiet. "So, I'll ask you again. What are you, woman?"
"I don't know what you mean,"
"Right, of course not,"
