DWAYNE'S POV:
Wow. I still can’t believe Mycseen finally asked Brittany out. I’ve been waiting for this moment, and it actually happened! Those two are perfect for each other. But there's a problem, Alia. That girl never lets Brittany breathe. I don't understand what her issue is, but I can tell it’s not just about Mycseen.
Ever since Brittany came to Dashville, she’s been nothing but kind and supportive of me. I’m grateful for her, and even more relieved that she and Dawn are getting along. Because honestly? If they had clashed, choosing between my twin sister and my best friend would’ve been impossible.
But no matter what happens, I’ll stand by Brittany. I just hope she makes the right decision about Mycseen. And if she says yes, I know for a fact that Alia is going to stir up trouble. Maybe I should talk to Mycseen before things get out of hand.
As if on cue, I spotted him walking into the classroom.
"Hey, Mycseen!" I called out, waving him over.
"Hey, Dwayne," he greeted with a nod.
"So... Brit told me you finally did it," I said, nudging him playfully. "You asked her out. I thought you’d chicken out!"
Mycseen let out a nervous chuckle. "Yeah, I did… Not gonna lie, I was terrified, but hey—I did it."
"She said she’d think about it," I reminded him, studying his face.
"Yeah, she told me that too," he admitted. "Man, I can't believe I'm actually doing this."
I grinned. "I think she likes you too. I mean, you guys would make a great couple."
"Yeah, I guess so," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. Then, his lips curled into a smirk. "You’re a real one, Dwayne. But the way you’re acting, it’s almost like I proposed to you instead."
I laughed. "James must hear this!"
We both cracked up, but deep down, I couldn’t shake the feeling that things wouldn’t be this easy. If Brittany said yes, it wouldn't just be about her and Mycseen—it would be about Alia too. And that’s what worried me the most.
BRITTANY’S POV:
At Home...
I sat on the couch, flipping through channels on the TV while scrolling through my phone. I wasn’t really paying attention until my sister, Cassey, came running down the stairs like she just won the lottery.
"Yes! Yes! Yes! I got it!!!" she squealed, throwing herself onto the couch beside me.
I raised an eyebrow. "Got what?"
"I’m finally going to Kyle’s beach party!" she announced, grinning from ear to ear.
I blinked. That’s it? That’s the big news?
"You’re this excited over a beach party?" I asked, unimpressed.
"Say what?" she shot me a look.
I quickly forced a smile. "Uh, I said, ‘Good for you, sis! You’re gonna have a great time.’"
"Aww, thanks, hunny bunny!" she said, ruffling my hair before skipping off to her room.
I groaned. I hated when she called me that.
A Few Hours Later…
"Hey, Mom! Dwayne’s coming over," I called from the kitchen.
"Oh, that’s nice! I’ll make some cookies," Mom replied cheerfully.
Right on cue, the doorbell rang.
"I’ll get it," I said, heading to the front door.
As soon as I opened it, I grinned. "Hi, Dwayne! Oh, and you brought your other half. Come in!"
Dawn rolled her eyes playfully. "Hey, Britt," they both greeted in unison.
"We’ll hang out in my room," I said, leading the way upstairs.
Once we were settled, I turned to Dwayne. "So, what’s up for today?"
Dwayne’s expression turned serious. "A whole lot. But first, we need to talk."
I frowned slightly. "Okay?"
He exchanged a glance with Dawn before saying, "Britt, it’s been days now."
"Days? What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"You still haven’t given Mycseen your answer," he said flatly.
Dawn’s eyes widened. "Wait, Mycseen asked you out?"
"Shush! Someone might hear us!" Dwayne scolded. "Yeah, he did."
Dawn smirked. "Ooooh, Britt! Spill the tea!"
I stayed quiet. I didn’t know what to say.
"Britt, you’re silent. Say something," Dwayne urged.
I exhaled. "I’m sorry… I’ll give him an answer when I see him."
"You better," Dwayne said. Then, she clapped her hands together. "Enough about boys—let’s have some fun!"
She turned on the TV, and for the next few hours, we played video games, ate snacks, and watched movies. It felt so good to have my friends around. They made me forget my worries, at least for a little while.
But deep down, I knew I couldn’t avoid this forever.
Mycseen hasn’t been himself lately. He hasn’t been as cheerful, hasn’t smiled the way he used to.
Is he mad at me?
Or… is he just waiting for my answer?
And what answer am I even supposed to give?
I sighed, staring blankly at the TV screen as my thoughts swirled.
I had a bad feeling that this decision wouldn’t just affect me and Mycseen.
Something told me Alia wasn’t going to let this go easily.
And that scared me more than anything.
