Yep someone was definitely following us. The same black SUV has been behind me ever since we left the mall. Now on the road that leads from town to the pack land it was catching up. The road was an old back road. Nobody really drove it, except for the pack. There were woods on either side. Providing perfect cover for our wolves to run alongside it. I stepped harder on the gas. I mind linked Sam before the vehicle figured I noticed it. ‘Sam, Allison and I are coming down pack road. We are being followed. Not sure by who but they are starting to catch up. Send out back up.’
‘We are coming out now are you guys okay?’ His reply was immediate and even in my mind sounded worried.
‘Yes for now just hope this guy isn’t stupid.’ I responded while cutting around a corner. The SUV was on my bumper now. All my senses were in hyper drive now. My vision was so clear I saw Alex and Sam about a mile up the road they were waiting for us with guards on either side of them. I knew there would be more in the tree lining. Sam mind linked me once more as we got closer.
‘Speed up more, create some distance. Drive past us and get Luna to the house. We will take care of the driver.’ I did what he said. It wasn’t hard creating space between us and them. When they saw the men on the road they started to slow down. I drove past our pack. Watching in the mirror to make sure the other car would hit any of them. Luckily it didn’t, instead before anyone could make a move. The SUV screeched to a halt and turned around. My guess is they knew they were outnumbered and chose to retreat.
Once I pulled into Alex’s parking spot I turned to Allison. Just now noticing how quiet she had been the whole time. She sat there in the passenger seat staring out the windshield. She wasn’t moving, not even a blink, it was like she was in a trance. I slowly put my hand on hers. The moment our skin touched it snapped her out of it. “Are you okay?” I asked seeing so many emotions flashing in her eyes. She looked like she was about to break down and cry.
“I should have done the thing I wanted to do when I first found out Michel wanted me.” I was confused by her statement. What had she wanted to do?
“What are you talking about Allie?” Now a single tear slid down her cheek.
“I should have left, or let him take me. I should have never stayed. The pack lost lives that day and all because of me. Now There are still people out there that are after me. That car could have easily run down our people in order to get us.” She wanted to leave us, leave the pack. A bolt of hurt cut through my heart. Apart of me felt as though our Luna didn’t want us. While another part understood how she felt. She blamed herself for the fallen wolves.
“Allie you can’t blame yourself. Those wolves died because they were doing their duties. They died an honorable death, and whether you were here or not we still would have fought for you. Because you are Alex’s mate. You are our Luna.” I tried to console her. “Besides we don’t know why that car was following us. It could have nothing to do with you.”
“Why would the pack ever accept me? All I bring is death and destruction.” She whimpered out.
“That’s not true. If that were I wouldn’t be here. Even the book said you are our savior. You saved me, Alex, even all the pack members that were under Michel's rule. You are strong like a beam of sunlight breaking through a storm. I don’t ever want to hear you doubting yourself. You are the Luna. You hold your head up high and take down anyone who doubts you.” I said with conviction. I hated seeing her like this. I knew that the weight of being Luna carried trumendis weight but she was a born Luna. She could carry it and in times like these she had me. For when her legs get weak from the weight. I will be there to help her carry it. Just as Sam has always done for Alex. “Now let's get inside and make some food. I’m starving.” Allison cracked a smile at me giving me a nod in agreement.
We had finished our sandwiches and were now talking. We had gone to Alex’s new office that his dad said he needed. Allie was sitting in his chair while I sat in one of the arm chairs across from her. The room was much like his dad’s office. A big oak desk sat in front of a window that looked out to the back yard. Two chairs sat in front of the desk. A black couch on the one wall with a small square table in front of it. On the other wall were all book shelves. Unlike his father's office his book shelves were pretty bare.
“I had told Ryan that Alex needed somewhere else to do his work other than our room. That boy can be very messy. Once I walked in and all I could see was paper. On the floor, on the bed, the only place there wasn’t any was on the ceiling.” I laughed at that. Sounded like him, he was never one to be known for organization. “So Ryan told some of the men to set this up for him.” She said waving her hand to the room. We sat there a moment not saying anything until the office door opened. We both looked to see who it was. It was a girl about thirteen, I believe her name was trinity. She was wearing an apron over a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. I have seen her from somewhere but couldn’t remember where. When she saw us here eyes grew wide and she froze in the doorway.
“Oh I’m so sorry I didn’t think anyone was in here. I’ll come back later. I’m so sorry for interrupting.” But before she could leave Allie called her.
“Wait please come in.” She said sweetly. The girl did as she was told. Walking into the middle of the room with her head down. “What’s your name?”
“Tri- Trinity Luna ma’am.” She said with a shaky voice. Allie and I exchanged a look. This girl was acting terrified of us. We turned our attention back to Trinity.
“Trinity, that’s a very pretty name. Please call me Allison. May I ask why you keep looking at the floor?” When Trinity raised her head we both gasped. Her eyes were like nothing either of us had ever seen. While her left eye was green her right was an electric blue.
“I’m truly sorry ma’am. Please don’t tell my father. I promise I won’t interrupt ever again.” Trinity said on the verge of tears.
“Oh dear, you don’t need to be sorry. You were doing your job. Please don’t cry. Come sit with us.” Allie said motioning to the chair next to me. Trinity shakily made her way over to the chair and sat. Her back was straight, hands folded in her lap, eyes cast down. She looked like a doll. Her petite frame looked as if the chair was going to swallow her up.
“May I ask why you keep looking away from us?” I asked her. Gently I placed my finger under her chin and brought her face up.
“My father says that my eyes are a disgrace. Some of the other kids pick on me for them.” She said quietly. Hearing this pissed me off. I knew kids would be kids, but for her own father to tell her this. That was unacceptable. “Haven’t I seen you around the practice yard?” I asked finally remembering where I have seen her before.
“Yes ma’am but please don’t tell my father.” She said on the verge of tears. This little girl was terrified of her father.
“Don’t worry we are not going to tell him, just calm down.” I told her looking to Allie.
“Hey we are all friends here. Your dad must not like you around all the boys. If I ever had a daughter as beautiful as you I wouldn’t want any boy near her.” Allie said trying to cheer her up.
“I’m only allowed to come here, work, then go home. My father says nobody wants to see a mutant.” I was trying my best not to lose control but it was getting hard.
“So why do you go to the practice grounds?” Allie asked trying to figure out why this child would take such a risk. If she was this scared of her dad. Why go against his orders?
“Well I take the long way home sometimes, and I pass by there. I want to be like you.” She said, looking at me. “I want to fight. I don’t want to be a disgrace. I want to be strong and do more than just clean. My mother always says that I could do anything as long as I have strength and courage.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw a light bulb shine in Allison’s eyes. Oh boy, this is going to be fun.
“Thank you Trinity that means a lot to me.” I told her. Her eyes caught a glimpse of the clock sitting on Alex’s desk.
She jumped up from where she sat. “Oh I have to get back to work. Thank you for letting me stay. If you ever need something just let me know.” Before she left the room she turned back to us. “Good luck tonight. I can’t wait for the ceremony.”
