Chapter Nine

Emily “This is the place where Chase and I would come as kids, we spent hours here swimming in the lake, climbing trees and basically just being pups''.  I listen intently as Kai speaks.  I don’t want to miss anything, I want to know everything about Chase.  “We have a couple of friends amongst the higher ranking wolves who would hang out here with us, we will introduce you to them after the mating ceremony.  They are so excited that we have found you two. We mindlinked them while we were at your aunts house.” He looked down at Cara as if she was the most magnificent thing he had ever laid his eyes on, to think we could have missed out on this if it wasn’t for my fathers quick thinking and planning.  “When my father asked us where we wanted to build our house, this was the only place we could think of, no where else matched up.”  As he finished his sentence, I looked up to see the most magnificent view I had ever seen.  A gorgeous timber home was nestled between some snow covered trees, in the distance you could see a shimmering lake, surrounded by boulders and overhanging trees.  The icey blue of the water behind the snow caps and trees just took my breath away.   Chase pulled me towards him as we walked up the steps to the front door.  Kai and Cara went in first leaving Chase and I to follow.  Before I could cross the threshold I felt my legs leave the solid floor as Chase picked me up bridal style “You are human after all” he chuckled.  “Yes, but isn’t this supposed to happen after we married?” I smirked back.   “I actually don’t care, I just wanted you in my arms”. His husky voice whispers into my ear.  A sensation begins to form in my lower area, something I have never experienced before.  I begin to blush which only leaves Chase giving me that gorgeous smirk.  I tried to push off him, but given his strength it probably felt more like a tickle than a push.  Chase slowly lowered me to the floor, the side of my body slowly grazing him as he maneuvers me into a standing position, our eyes never leave each other as our sparks begin to send magical tingles to each other.  Our gaze is broken when I hear Cara giggling like a schoolgirl.  I turn to look at her but I am instantly mesmerized.   When I was a young girl I used to dream of a timber home on the lake, I could never clearly see the outside but the inside was clear as day.  There was a large living area with a giant fireplace in the middle of the furniture.  It was open and created a circle around it so that everyone would have equal access to the warmth. Large comfy sofas would surround it, with throws and cushions to cuddle up to on a cold day.   The kitchen and dining room would be open plan, each piece of furniture made from the surrounding trees, created by hand, each cabinet a work of art.  To the side was enormous glass sliding doors, leading onto a huge verandah with hammocks and beds to lounge upon.  The garden would lead to a lake, the water the colour of ice.  In my dream I would watch two wolves playing together, one as black as night while the other as white as snow.  They seemed happy together, wistfully playing away, no need for anyone else’s company.  I turned to Cara to see that she is in as much shock as me.  “Is your wolf pure black?” I ask while turning around to look at Chase.  “How did you know?”  He looks at me quizzically.  “And yours is white!” Cara states to Kai.   Both Kai and Chase were looking at us with curiosity.  The look of shock must still have been plastered on our faces as Chase immediately pulled me into an embrace.  “She dreamed of this place’” I hear Cara say.  “When we were young, Em would show me pictures through our mindlink of a place that she used to dream about.  She would describe two beautiful wolves, one black as night while the other white as snow.  She would watch them for hours playing by the lake. She noticed the love between them and knew that they were brothers.  She used to tell me how connected she felt to this place and was convinced it was real.” Cara stopped for a minute to look at Kai, with a nod he gently encouraged her to continue.   The pictures she sent me were of this place.  Everything from the kitchen cabinets to the hammocks and garden.   I could feel Chase freeze, I was not sure how to react.  Would he think that I was crazier than I already am.  I mean I was young, they hadn’t even built this place yet.  I look around to see what Chase is thinking when I hear Kai begin to speak.  “Chase used to dream of this place too,” they both turn around to look at us.  When we were kids he would describe the house that we would build here one day for our mates to live with us.  He was convinced that he could see a beautiful girl, with emerald green eyes and hair as black as night.  She was in her pajamas and would watch us play for hours….. Chase gently turns me around to face him, our eyes connecting, sending messages of emotions that we were unable to put into words.  “I always believed you  were real,” he whispers, leaning into my neck.  He places my arms around his neck while moving his around my torso, pulling me into a gentle embrace.  We stayed like that, not moving, just listening to the beat of each other’s heart, knowing that we have finally found each other.
