CHAPTER XIX

THOMAS The morning of the match finally came and it was time for us to go to Yellow Moon. After Brian challenged Kyle, he completely went on silent mode for almost 24 hours now. He didn’t speak to anyone, not even me, and just went out to the woods in the territory to train. Brian had it tough on him. His father cheated and left his mother for a human, Alpha Richard, Brian’s father, never found a destined mate and was given Luna Leah as his chosen mate. Although Alpha Richard never liked the idea, he was left with no choice but to be married to the Luna, and there they had Brian. Luna Leah was nothing but a kind and loving person, she was a wonderful Luna who loved both her son and her husband. I guess all of that is still isn’t enough for the Alpha and decided to take a ‘business trip’ and never come back. Knowing the incident, the Luna was so distraught and upset that she too became silent and distant, she became weak. She tried her best to raise Kyle on her own, but slowly, day by day she grew weaker until the Luna passed away from a broken heart; even though her mate was chosen for her, she gave the Alpha her heart just like a destined mate would do. She deserved better than what her husband did to her. Brian was alone at a young age, not only that, he became an Alpha at an early age too, he was left with everything. He had to learn all the pack's responsibilities by himself, most of the time he was stressed and slept around just to cope up with it. He was damaged, and I couldn’t blame him for being so indecisive and difficult, he never had anyone else to tell him what he should do. I was there for him, but I think my presence is still not enough. I tried to look for Brian around the forest, it took me just about a few minutes to find him because of the claw scratches and punch marks on the trees. I just followed the marks which led me to him; I heard vigorous punching and a tree shaking with every jab that Brian let out. The trunk of the tree was stripped clean off of its bark at the center which sooner or later could give up and just break from Brian’s heavy pummeling. “Alpha, it’s almost time for the challenge…” I let my presence known and remind him about the fight. He finally stopped punching the tree and faced me as I bowed to him. I could see his tired eyes from not sleeping properly for a day and his fists wounded from repeatedly punching the tree. He balled his hands into tight fists which made his skin tear and blood come out as he heard me mention the fight. “Alright…” that was the only word that came out of his mouth as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath and started walking. “Brian… are you ready for this?” I asked trying to make a conversation. He stopped his tracks as he answered the question “I was alone for years and only had myself to learn everything and make this pack grow. There is no question that I am more than ready to have this fight.” He finally spoke. “I’m sorry Brian, but I have to bring this up again, why couldn’t you just give Amara to Kyle? The goddess would have given you a second chance and this mess wouldn’t happen.” I tried to talk some sense into him, I know that Brian was strong, but after hours of not sleeping and eating properly, it could take a toll on him during the match which isn’t good. He lets out a sharp sigh and answers “Yes, I could actually do that but my pride wouldn’t allow it. I had her first, I f****d it up and I have but myself to blame for what I’ve done, I want to prove to Amara that I would do whatever it takes to have her again and apologize to her every day if I have to. She’s my destined mate and I really couldn’t see anyone spend the rest of my entire life but her.” I could see the frustration in his eyes. He meant every word he said, he’s becoming like his mother he was so in love with her but at what cost? Probably his life. As much as I didn’t like to see a good friend of mine get hurt in the name of love, I had no say to it because I cannot interfere with the challenge not unless Brian or Kyle decides to forfeit it which clearly won’t happen. ******** We finally arrived at the Yellow Moon where we could see Alpha Nikolai, Liam, and Beta Andre already waiting for us in the middle of the training grounds. When we arrived there, all of them had a serious look on their faces. This is it, it was all or nothing at this point, and all I could do for Brian was pray to Moon Goddess that Kyle would spare his life and him to Kyle. Even though this is a fight-to-the-death match, no one deserves to die as they still have a family and a pack to go back home to. It did not take long before three wolves emerged from the bushes all carrying a pair of loose shorts around the area, it didn’t take me long to realize that it was Alpha Kyle with his Beta and Delta. All of them shifted while they wore the shorts and slowly walked their way to our circle. “Give your all Brian..” I tell Brian as he inhaled deeply and nodded his head with his gaze steadfast.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   BRIAN “Give your all Brian..” I heard Thomas say as I look steadily forward as Kyle and the others were now starting to gather close forming a circle. This is it. Over a day ago, I let my anger and pride take over me and challenged Kyle for Amara. I didn’t care anymore if both Darkmoon and Silverhide’s pack treaty was still neutral or to become enemies after this fight, all that matters to me now is that I would get to have Amara again. The moment that I rejected her and the moment that she turned her back and ran away from me replayed in my head, I felt the pain again, she didn’t even try to fight for me. For us. For what we could have become. Regardless, I was here to show her that I would never give up on her, I will show her that I, Brian Crassus, would not be remembered as the Alpha who rejected his destined mate, but the Alpha that fought or died trying in the name of love. I know it makes no sense, but everything in my life didn’t make sense too… Then, so be it. Kyle and I both went to the center face to face with Alpha Liam at our side and began to speak. “Alpha Brian Crassus of the Darkmoon pack, you stand here to fulfill your request to challenge Alpha Kyle Christian Harris for the right to mate my daughter Amara Layla Smith. Do you ratify? You still have at this last moment to decide if you should change your mind and forfeit the challenge, after you agree to proceed, your decision cannot be rectified later. How do you answer?” He said in his Alpha tone. I look to Alpha Liam and then to Kyle, they already knew my answer before I even tried to say it. “I want to proceed with the challenge.” I look at my opponent as I clenched my jaw. “Very well. This challenge shall proceed. Andre, if you please.” Alpha Liam stated and nodded at Nikolai’s beta and now stood in Alpha Liam’s place. “Before the challenge will commence, there are 4 important rules that you should be mindful of if any of you dare to try and break one of them, you will be disqualified, and all the right to claim Amara Layla Smith as his mate will be given to the opponent. Is that clear?” Both Kyle and I nodded as the beta continued to state the challenges’ rules. “Alright the rules are: 1.    No shifting. 2.    Trying to use mind-link, weapons, and anything that would give you an advantage over your opponent is prohibited. 3.    Keep the fight on the training grounds. Try to stay within the sight of the witnesses. 4.    This challenge is to the death. Should the opponent feel that he is unable to continue, he must try to concede or fight to his demise. That would be all. To the Alpha that comes out the victor, he will have all claim to Amara Layla Smith.” The beta then went a few meters back as I let out a growl to Kyle, I’ve been waiting for this moment to finally rip his face-off, it was music to my ears as I heard Alpha Liam’s voice say. “Alphas… FIGHT!”
