Chapter 6

1459 Words
Travis Travis's brows knit together as he shifted his gaze away from the computer and focused on the intercom when he heard ringing. He fixed his gaze on it for a moment before lifting the receiver to respond to the call. "What?" Travis's voice was cold as he spoke into the other line. "Sorry, sir," Travis heard his secretary, Chris, say from the other line. "But Sir Adam is outside your office. He wants to see you," Chris informed him. His frown deepened at what Chris told him. What is Adam doing in his office? As far as he knew, Adam was supposed to be on vacation in Hawaii. But it turns out he's not on vacation after all. He's in Hawaii trying to win back his girlfriend. Adam was his classmate at a prestigious university in New York. They became close friends, and despite their busy lives, they still kept in touch. They still hang out when they're both free. "Shall I let him in, sir?" Chris asked him after a moment. He took a deep breath. "Okay, let him in," he said after a moment. Travis didn't wait for a response, he hang up the intercom. Moments later, he heard a soft knock coming from outside his office. He saw the door handle turn and the door open. His eyebrows furrowed even more when he saw the smile on Adam's lips as their eyes met. "What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice still cold as he looked at him. "Well, as your friend, I need to congratulate you," Adam said to him with a sinister smile on his lips. Travis's expression remained unchanged. "Congratulate me for what?" he asked him. "On your marriage," Adam replied to him amd raise his one brow. "I heard you're married now." At his words, Travis couldn't help but clench his fists. He also couldn't help but grit his teeth. And when Adam saw his facial expression, he noticed the slight curl of his lip, a sign of a suppressed smile. "Oh, my bad, man. I guess I shouldn't have said congratulations. Condolences," Adam said in an amused tone. His lips pursed. Instead of commenting on Adam's words, he stood up from his swivel chair. He walked over to the counter where his collection of expensive liquors was displayed. He took two glasses and filled them with liquor. Carrying them, he approached Adam. He handed one to him, who immediately accepted it. He leaned against the wall. His expression still hadn't changed when he brought the glass to his lips. "What happened, Travis? Why did you get married, Lianne's cousin?" Adam asked with curious voice. "I got Catherine pregnant," he replied through gritted teeth. "By mistake," he added. Both he and Catherine were drunk when something happened between them. He knew he had s*x that night, but he thought it was with Lianne, his fiancee. But when he woke up, he was shocked to see that it wasn't Lianne lying beside him. It was Catherine - Lianne's cousin. And they were both naked. As the haze of intoxication cleared from his mind, the events of the previous night slowly began to sink in. How he devoured her, how he claimed her lips and how he touched and tasted her body. And the several bruises and kiss marks all over her body were proof of what had happened between them. And Travis couldn't believe she was a virgin! And to be honest, it was the first time Travis had ever been with a virgin. "Oh," Adam murmured. "You're going to be a father?" he asked him. He just tightened his grip on the glass he was holding. He didn't comment on Adam's words. And it seemed Adam noticed he didn't want to respond, because he asked a follow-up question. "Where's Lianne, by the way?" he asked after a moment. "She left when she found out I agreed to marry Catherine," he replied. "And I don't know where she went." Travis tried to find Lianne after she left, but he couldn't see her anywhere. He couldn't contact her either because her cellphone was turned off. He even tried asking her friends that he knew, but they didn't know anything about the woman's whereabouts. She's nowhere to be found. Travis was supposed to marry Lianne next year. But because of one mistake, their plans didn't push through. And instead of marrying Lianne, he ended up marrying her cousin Catherine because he got her pregnant. To be honest, marrying Catherine wasn't part of the plan. Yes, he was sure he was the father of her child when he found out she was pregnant. And like he said, he had no intention of marrying her - he could support her and the baby, but marrying her? No way. He didn't love her. Yes, Catherine was beautiful, he'd admit that. She had an innocent face, long lashes, beautiful eyes that sparkled when you looked at them. Her cheeks and lips naturally flushed, like they were touched up with blush and makeup. She also had a great body, with perfect curves in all the right places. But that's just it. Lianne was the woman he loved. And his marriage to Catherine was just a forced one. Catherine's father pushed him to take responsibility for the baby and wanted him to marry his daughter. He objected, but Catherine's father threatened to talk to his parents if he didn't comply. And Travis knew his parents, especially his father, who was a member of the U.S House of Representatives, would not want their family name tarnished by a scandal. So, he had no choice but to marry Catherine, even if he didn't love her. Travis thought Lianne was perfect wife material. She was kind, caring, and most of all, a great cook. She would always bring him delicious food, and ever since he tasted her cooking, he couldn't get enough of it. From then on, it was like her cooking was all he wanted to eat. Maybe that's when he started falling for her. The saying 'the way to a man's heart is through his stomach' must be true. He even praised Lianne the first time he tasted her cooking. She would smile and say that she cooked with love, which is why her dishes were so delicious. Whenever Lianne visited his office, she would always bring his favorite foods, like seafood pasta or steak. After a while, Travis's train of thought was interrupted by a knock at the door of his office. "Come in," he said in a cold but baritone voice. The door opened and Chris came in. His eyes immediately focused on the familiar paper bag in Chris's hands, and when he saw it, his brows furrowed. "Good morning, Sir," Chris greeted him. "Sir, you left your lunch at home," Chris informed him, holding up the paperbag. "Ma'am Catherine handed it to me." "Throw it," he said in a stern voice. He didn't forget his lunch, he intentionally left it behind. He knew who cooked it - Catherine. Lily had no choice but to admit who cooked it when he asked her about it earlier, when she handed it to him. He even told Lily that he didn't want it to happen again. He didn't want to eat the food Catherine cooked. Only Lianne's cooking was what he wanted to eat. "S-sir?" "Do you hear me? I said, throw it. And don't repeat what I said," he said in a firm tone. "I'm... sorry, Sir," Chris replied. Chris was about to leave the office to follow his orders when Adam called out to him, stopping him. "Chris, wait." "Sir?" "Don't throw it away. It's a waste," Adam said, causing his jaw to tighten. "What the f**k?" "Well, I'm hungry, Travis. When I heard you were married, I came straight here without even having breakfast," he replied. "Give it to me, Chris," Adam said to his secretary. Chris hesitated but still handed what he was holding to Adam. "Thanks." Travis frowned as he watched Adam walk toward the sofa. He saw him pull out a container from the paper bag. And when Adam opened it, the familiar aroma of seafood pasta immediately reached his nose. "Hmm.. smells good," Adam commented as he sniffed the pasta. "And it's your favorite, Travis." Adam started eating. His eyes lit up after the first bite. "God! This is the best seafood pasta I've ever tasted," he exclaimed. "Are you sure you don't want to try your wife's cooking?" he asked, putting emphasis on the word wife, clearly trying to annoy him. Travis scoffed in annoyance. "Lianne’s cooking is way better," he replied, though his eyes remained fixed on what Adam was holding.
