Catherine
After Catherine handed over the lunch that Travis had left it at home to his secretary, she immediately left. To be honest, she wanted to be the one to give it to Travis herself, because she wanted to see him, she just wanted to see him, even for a moment, since she hadn’t seen him since the last night. But even though Catherine wanted so badly to do it, she held herself back, thinking she might just ruin his day if he saw her. Travis hated seeing her, after all. He was angry with her. He blamed her for ruining his happy relationship with Lianne. He was supposed to be with the one he truly loved, but because of what happened between them, he ended up being tied to her. And that makes him more angry at her.
Catherine shook her head to get the thoughts out. Every time she thought about it, her chest tightened like something was choking her.
She kept walking until she got to her car, she got in, and headed to her appointment.
It didn’t take long before Catherine arrived at her OB-GYN’s clinic. Once she parked the car in the parking lot, she got out and walked straight inside.
“Good morning, Ma’am,” greeted the female staff as she entered the clinic.
“Morning,” Catherine greeted back. After that, she was asked to fill out a form and told to wait because the doctor was still attending to someone.
Catherine sat in the waiting area, waiting for her name to be called.
And moments later, a pregnant woman exited the consultation room, accompanied by a man who seemed to be her husband. Catherine noticed the bright smiles on both their faces, the sparkle in their eyes as they stepped out.
Catherine bit her lower lip as she watched them happy face. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy after seeing them. That woman had someone with her—her husband. Catherine wished Travis was with her too, but she knew that was a big illusion. Travis would never come with her.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when her name was called. She stood up and approached the female staff who called her name.
“Please come in, Ma’am,” the staff said with a smile.
Catherine smiled back and her and walk inside the room.
“Good morning, Doc,” Catherine greeted the doctor when she went inside.
“Good morning,” the doctor greeted back. And after that, she noticed that the doctor glanced behind her, as if expecting someone else to enter. “You’re alone? Your husband didn’t come with you?”
Catherine licked her lower lip and tried to hide the pain in her eyes with a smile.
“H-he’s out of the country, Doc,” Catherine lied. She was embarrassed to tell her the truth because she didn't want her to pity her if she said that her husband didn't care about her and the baby.
“Oh,” the doctor simply said to her.
Later on, the doctor asked her to lie down on the examination bed. Catherine did as what she was told. “Let’s do the check-up,” the doctor said after asking her a few more questions.
The doctor lifted Catherine’s blouse up to her chest and placed a cold gel like substance on her stomach. Then, she began the ultrasound.
Catherine stared intently at the monitor. She didn't blink her eyes.
“See this?” the doctor said, pointing at something on the screen.
Catherine nodded while staring.
“This is your baby. And he or she is healthy,” the doctor said. “And the baby’s heartbeat is fine as well.”
Relief filled Catherine’s eyes at those words. The doctor explained more about her pregnancy, and when she finished, Catherine began asking her own questions.
“Doc, is it normal to have morning sickness? I’ve been throwing up and feeling dizzy more often these past few days," she asked her.
“It’s normal since you’re in your first trimester. But eventually, it will go away,” the doctor replied to her. She continued to ask more questions about her pregnancy, on what to do and not to do, which the doctor answered patiently.
“Hmm… Doc, can I get a copy of my baby’s ultrasound?” she asked when the check-up ended.
“You don’t even have to ask. I was going to give it to you anyway,” the doctor said. After prescribing her vitamins, the doctor handed her the ultrasound. “Here. Show this to your husband when he comes back. I’m sure he’ll be happy to see your baby," she said with a smile.
How I wished, Catherine thought. She just smiled in response.
Once the check-up was done and she had paid, Catherine left the clinic and went to the pharmacy to buy the prescribed vitamins. She also bought her pregnancy milk.
And after buying everything she needed, she decided to stop by a restaurant to eat. She was starving. She couldn’t skip meals, especially now that it might affect the baby.
Instead of returning to Travis’s mansion, she went back to her family home after. She missed her room there. Her parents were out of the country, so Catherine just locked herself in her room
Feeling too lazy to move, she decided to sleep instead. And after she wake up, she was schocked when she saw the time on her wristwatch.
She had slept almost the entire afternoon—it was already close to six in the evening.
When she saw the time, she quickly got out of bed and fixed herself up. Then she stepped out of her room. She didn’t even say goodbye to the maid in her rush to leave.
She needed to return to Travis’s mansion. She didn’t want him to get home before her, even though she knew he usually came home late. He had only come home early once—and that was the time he caught Brad there.
Soon, Catherine arrived at the mansion. She bit her lower lip when she saw his black car already parked there.
He was home.
She let out a deep sigh. She stayed inside her car for a moment, then decided to get out. She grabbed the paper bag with her vitamins and milk. She also picked up the baby’s ultrasound, which she had left on the dashboard.
She started walking toward the house. She continued on until—
“Where did you go?” she heard the cold but baritone voice.
Catherine was so startled that she dropped what she was holding. Instead of picking them up, she slowly looked to her side.
And standing right there was none other than Travis. She immediately noticed the furrow of his brows as he stared at her.
“T-Travis,” she stammered when he mention his name, silently cursing herself for the tremble in her voice.
“Where did you go?” he asked again.
She swallowed. “I just went somewhere for a bit—”
“For a bit?” he cut her off. “Are you sure it was just for a bit, Catherine?” he asked in icy cold voice.
She licked her lower lip and raised one hand to rest on her stomach. She noticed his eyes lower to where her hand was. There was something in his gaze, something different, but it vanished when he blinked, replaced again with the anger in his expression.
“Pick up your mess. I don’t want any trash in my house,” he said coldly.
“I’m sorry,” she murmured. She bent down to pick up the scattered items. She stopped when she saw that the ultrasound had also fallen to the floor.
“Pick up your mess. I don’t want any trash in my house,” she recalled Travis saying.
Mess?
Did he think her baby… their baby… was trash?
She bit her lower lip, feeling her eyes start to well up. She quickly picked up the ultrasound and brushed it off even though it wasn’t dirty. She blinked multiple times to stop herself from crying.
Dammit.
And when she looked up, she saw Travis staring at what she was holding.
