CHAPTER 3-POORLY PLANNED

941 Words
"What your mother is sick" replied Gill trying to hide the truth of the matter. "Yes, she is sick. Unexpectedly, she just woke up from bed and had a sickness so bad that she had to be rushed to the hospital". It was then confirmed that they would visit Mrs. Randy everyday until she became better. So as they planned Mrs. Randy was visited for the first time and when Laurel saw her condition she couldn't help but scream. "What happened doc" were the first words that petruded her mouth when she caught sight of her mother. "We are not even sure. One minute you are working on a patient and the next minute a woman with pale skin and who seems to be paralysed comes being rushed in. We have run lots of tests all to no prevail". The doctor said and closed the chapter. Now as the three people were starring at the body a voice that was so mild and practically unhearable broke through the atmosphere. "This was the work of your husband". Surprisingly enough, it was only Gill who heard these words and at that moment pulled Laurel out of checkup room. It was also said that Mrs. Randy would have to go through surgery to have a chance of being revived which Laurel agreed to immediately without minding her husband opinions. Two months later...... A few months and the plan of visiting never ceased. They visited her on holidays, on working days and others of different sorts but each time they visited it felt like the situation kept getting worse and worse. One day, when Gill supposed that his wife has gone back to normal he rose up the topic. "You know that the inspection has been shifted to next week Wednesday". "Pls, Pls I have other things to think about than going for a rampant inspection". "But the committee clearly stated that this is our last chance. If we don't go they would be forced to put the child back up for adoption and all the money that we paid for the adoption will not be refunded". "Then you can go for your stupid adoption while I think of how to plan for this burial", replied Laurel and with that Laurel left without a trace. Gill was left starring at the door, thinking, 'Have I lost my wife forever? Will I have to take things to desperate measures?', all these and many more thoughts flashed the mind of Gill which to all he had no answer to. The day of the burial, there is food, drinks and many more sights to behold. The scenery was dashed and lit up properly and it was probably even better than that of the wedding. It had hyms, order of service papers, mourning centre and many more ever-exuberant places. The ceremony began with an approval and some historical dances. Then the MC introduced the service. "Hello Ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this burial mourning the death of Mrs. Randy". Now, Mrs. Randy who had been sick died a midnight in which Laurel was asleep. She was awoken by the sound of a phone ringing and picked up the call. It was the doctor and she hoped for good news. "Sorry to inform you but your mother is dead. She died a few days ago but I decided to wait until now to tell you so as for your body to cool down as you seemed really hot-tempered". With that Laurel began raining insults on the doctor while sobbing before she cut the call but one statement spoken by the doctor gave her sleepless nights until the day of the burial 'Your mother was killed by poison'. This word still held onto Laurel so dearly as she sat in the VIP section of the burial seats accompanied by Gill, Frank, Mrs. Donald(Gill's mother) and Mr. Donald(Gill's father) who had lived to witness this bulgatic event. When the MC was done introducing, the other ceremonies began until it was time for Laurel's farewell speech in memory of her mother who died at 84 years old due to poison. "I don't have much to say. The day I lost my mother was the day I lost all hope of being whole again. It was sudden and it was because of poison I don't know who could have done such a horrible thing to her. She was not just a mother to me she was my friend and this experience shows that death is still out there looking for another soul to conquer. Pls, do not fall victim. Look at my husband, his two parents are still alive but as for me not even one. Let God forgive us", Laurel said while going down on her knees crying. As for Gill, he had the urge to go on stage and reveal himself but for the sake of what he called 'Love' he couldn't do it. He felt like this circumstance was for the best. The two went home while days became weeks, weeks became months and still Laurel held this loss dearly. Especially one daring day when Gill returned with another promotion and all Laurel could say with a sobbing voice was "Good for you" and she retired to bed. Gill began to wonder whether he had spoilt Laurel or make her better but this was certainly not the marriage either of them planned for. Another few weeks past and Gill got tired of Laurel's bad attitude. They didn't do anything together all she ever did was sob. Certainly the idea of divorce began to flow through the mind of Gill.
