Chapter 30
“Yes, Maggie, we found her. She’s alive.” Pauly stood in the hospital lobby talking on the military phone which linked back to the US via satellite. She’d been the first one he’d called. “She was hurt in the battle. The doctors say they can’t do anything here, but she’s stable enough to transport so we’re bringing her back to the US.”
He heard a heavy sigh. “Is she awake? Can I talk to her?” Maggie had so many questions.
“She’s in a coma right now. The doctors won’t speculate until she’s seen by someone in the States.”
“Oh, Pauly! How does she look? How did this happen?” Maggie didn’t know where to begin. A myriad of all kinds of feelings ran through her: Relief, sadness, joy, worry and many, many more.
