Chapter 2
Dalia
Silence is my favorite haven. It makes me think a lot. Like life is easy but people make it difficult, yeah? We had a lot of choices but we tend to think with a narrow mind in an irrational way. Mostly, make decisions in what you think first, not knowing what are the outcomes, then in the end, suffering and regret will invade senses that will lead to frustration, anxiety and depression. That's how difficult you can make it when you think irrationally. But some can be rational and smart. They're mostly successful in any way.
Amidst of thinking things, my reverie was cut by the intruder.
“Doll!” Someone called.
When I turned my head to the side, I saw the handsome guy with the blue icy eyes. His hair is blonde, pushed back by his long fingers. His brows are frowning, lips are pouting naturally. I couldn't help but stare at his magnificent physique. He was tall, so I held my head up to look at him when he arrived in front of me. He looks so confused at the moment and I don't know why.
“Bradley, why are you shouting? When in fact I am just around the corner.” I asked him. He slammed his back on the tree behind us after taking a seat.
“Why do you have to be alone, huh? I want to eat lunch with you. You've promised. Or are you avoiding me for you don't want to treat me? You should've even told me, if you don't want to or you don't have money because I will lend you money to borrow, so that you can treat me. Is it difficult?” he was so restless when saying those words without pausing. Unbelievable! How can this guy be my best friend again? Yes, he is my best friend. Please remind me how.
“Hold up! Can you pause a little bit? You were ranting like there's no tomorrow without even breathing. How can you do that?” I asked like a curious cat, fakely. I rolled my eyes at him.
He groaned and whined about me being a loner and him being starving, craving something sweet today. He didn't stop me until he succeeded in his persuasion.
“There you go! We're going to eat something sweet. Something like me, sweet. Yay!” he exclaimed while we're walking along the sidewalk. Most of the people were looking at us, him especially. I quickly lowered my head to hide my face from embarrassment.
“He's not my friend.” I denied those who were looking at me, slowly walking away from him. To my dismay, he reached me out and placed his arm around my shoulder.
“Yes! We're not friends but best friends!” he announced loudly, Causing them to look at us like we're crazy teenager. I mentally facepalm, so embarrassed at the moment. Tell me, why do I have to be with him again? Ah, yes. He's starving, even if he just eaten an hour ago.
I slapped his arm, he just laughed at my face. Damnit. What is so funny? I rolled my eyes at him before walking fast, almost running. When I didn't hear him, I paused and looked at my back. Only to see, he stopped at his track and stared at the other side of the road. His face darkened with a grimace. When I looked at the other side of the road, I saw a guy for a moment, our eyes connected. I felt like the time had stopped for a minute but once I blinked, he was gone. I couldn't move for a moment, did not do anything but stare at the location where he was gone.
Then suddenly, I felt a light slap on my shoulder, causing me back to reality and the world moving in its time. What was that? Was I day dreaming? Those blazing eyes who stared at me even a mile could send shivers to my spine. Was it a fear or excitement? I don't know. Then I felt someone staring at me, closely. I averted my gaze to the side and I saw the grim face of my best friend. I was like being judged in my soul by the way he looked at me. He was like observing me for a long time.
To hide my expression, I slowly curved my brow to question him without saying a word. He knows me so well, that he immediately understands my askance.
“He's nothing. I don't know him either.” He sighed and smiled at me. Seems like his smile was fake. I knew him too well that even fake and real are being noticed. He couldn't hide from me. But I know, at this time, I shouldn't pursue my curiosity. So, I returned him a smile.
“Let's go, then!” I exclaimed this time, to wash away the negative thoughts. “Sweets, here we go.”
I turned to continue our walk to the cafe. I heard him sighed heavily. It didn't go unnoticed for me. I was worried but don't want to mingle his problems unless he needs me.
Since he transferred to the school when we were Junior high. He always tagged along with me. I remember his first approach. He was so cute and I got a crush on him for he was so adorable and jolly. He keeps on smiling at everyone that's why I like him. One day, he approached me in my chair. I was always left alone all the time for people don't like me.
“Hey, doll. Why alone?” He greeted me.
“Uhm, were you asking me?” I asked him to make sure I heard him.
“Oh no. It's not you. It's for him.” He pointed his index finger to nowhere. Sarcasm was evident in his voice.
“I thought so?” I told him in a monotone.
“Well, seriously, I want you to be my friends. You are kinda different and amazing. So that's why I approached you. Don't you want to, do you?” he smiled at me.
“okay?” I said, more on question.
“Yay! But before that, can we just eat first? It's almost past lunch and we haven't eaten yet.”
“What? You just ate a while ago. Unbelievable!”
“Well that was for my partial food because at this moment, I want to eat something leafy. And you're going to treat me, yeah? Yes.” He exclaimed even though I didn't answer him. What's wrong with this guy!?
“What?” I shout. My eyes widened. Is he my friend already? At this moment, I like to decline his offer because I manage to imagine that one day my pocket will turn a hole. And it is because of his unending starvation. Damn!
And that's how we became friends. We may look like a cat and dog. I know we love each other in friendship. But still my pockets were holed by his starvation. From that day forward his starvation was getting worse. I felt like giving up until now.
