He approached her in the darkness of her room. She backed away into the corner with fear evident in her eyes. He's stature built, his height towered over her making her look like a little girl as so he liked to call her. She wanted to say something or shout but nothing came out. He's breathing was heavy as his shoulders raised and fell along with his bare chest. Scars, thousands of scars covered his beautifully flawed body ranging from cuts to burns. She looked at all his scars but instead of feeling disgusted or scared, she felt pity on this cruel, heartless monster who frequently threatened her. The fear she held slowly faded away and her eyes softened. She took a deep breath and stopped in her steps.
He noticed the change in her eyes and stopped in front of her as well. He's eyes as black as the night and his fist clenched at is sides trying his best to control himself. He shut his eyes tight and tried to control his breathing. In awe of his actions, she approached him slowly and her hands reached out to touch his rough skin. Her eyes never left the scar that ran from his top right shoulder to the end of his left hip. She reached out to touch it and he immediately opened his eyes in shock and stared at her petite figure in front of him. He was surprised that she didn't back away from him like all the others have. He flinched at her touch and instantly grabbed her wrist gently but firm. Her eyes snapped to his and they stared at each other deeply. Noticing how sincere she was, he let her wrist go and she continued to trace his scars with her delicate fingertips. When she was done, she looked up to his face and with one hand and she cupped his cheek. He stood there, speechless that a girl like her was not afraid of him. He was pleased with his choice to have chosen her.
"How?" She asked with a soft voice. To him her voice sounded like his beloved from years ago. They were so much alike. "Fear. People feared me so they did this to me," He said with a raspy voice. "How could anyone be so cruel?" She asked as tears began to form in her honey glazed eyes. A tear slowly fell and trailed down her cheek. Out of instinct, he reached out and wiped her fallen tear. "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. An unknown I was to them many years ago, my dear moon," He said. "I don't fear you," She said. "You should, moon," He said and pulled out of her touch.
She immediately did something she never thought she would do. She reached out to him and wrapped her frail arms around his waist. He was shocked at her sudden actions. He froze feeling uncomfortable to such a gentle and loving touch. A hug is something he hasn't had in centuries. "Don't push me away. You're only punishing yourself," She said to him as she leaned into him and placed one side of her face on his chest. "I can see you are hurting but you won't tell me why. At least learn to let go of the past. You deserve happiness," She tried to reason with him. His hands were awkwardly at the sides of him with her still hugging him. "If you knew what I truly am, you would have already ran for the hills, moon," He said as he tried to pry her grip away from him but that only made her grip stronger.
"I am not what you think I am Selene. I am something inhumane," He says as he nudges her shoulder. She looks up to him with her chin on his chest. "I don't see you for what you are. I see you for who you are inside," She says convincing him that he is not a monster. He became the monster people made him to be. Before this, he was as gentle as a dove. “Then, would you promise me something, my dear Selene?” He asked her as he looked upon her face which to him seemed like the light of the moon was reflecting of her beautiful skin. “Anything,” She said as she pulled away slightly but her arms remained around his waist. “Promise me you won’t leave me no matter what. Promise me you won’t be scared of me when you see who I truly am, please,” He’s last word came as a whisper. He was never used to begging anyone but his old moon. Again she cupped his cheeks but this time with both of her hands. “I promise my love,” She says and a bright smile appears on his face. One that hasn’t been seen in a long time. They both hugged each other not eager to let go anytime soon. “You are my moon, my true moon, Selene Asteria,” He whispers in her ear.
Hearing her gasp in their embrace, he opened his eyes and saw her body go limp in his arms. Her weight fell completely on him as he fell on hi knees to catch her fall. “Selene? SELENE?!” He shouted in panic as he shook her. As he’s hand was supporting her back, he felt a think liquid run over his hand and he brought his hand to his face and saw blood. Selene’s blood…
