Serenity's POV dinner time
Everyone was gathered in the back courtyard when I was finally led outside and introduced as Prince Damien's mate. After many congratulations and thank-yous were said, it was finally time to eat. The Luna's most trusted servant served my plate and mentioned that it was specially prepared for me, which made me slightly nervous. But, seeing as it was a well done steak and salad with a very fragrant dressing that I had never tried before paired with a very fragrant rosè wine, I couldn't help but want to trust it.
I ate my food slowly, savering every bite as I was never privileged enough to eat it before, not noticing how both the Luna and her daughter appeared to be watching my every move like a hawk. As I finished the salad, my head started hurting and I began rubbing my temples.
"Everything alright my flower?" Damien whispered in my ear, causing me to give him a tight smile.
"Yes, just a head ache. I am just going to step away from everyone for a moment, I'll be right back," I said, but as I stood up everything went black, yet I could still hear fine, strangely. I heard Samantha, pretending to be frightened and screaming just as Max and the medic came running in.
Max growled at Samantha just as she bent down faking worry.
"What are you doing Max, growling at your alpha's daughter?" Luna asked.
"Treating her the way all traitors are treated," he replied.
"What do you mean?" Prince Damien asked, "aren't you the one that betrayed her last night?
"Prince Damien, if you permit, I would like to take you away from the group to explain to you both what happened last night as well as just now."
"Yes, Prince, also if what Max has told me is true, then I quickly need to start working on Serenity, else she may die."
"You three help the medic get her to the clinic and I swear if she dies, I will personally burn this pack to the ground," he said with his demon evident in his voice before all went silent.
Damien's POV
I followed Max into the woods.
"Your highness, before I tell you this, please know that it was never my attention to hurt Serenity. I have always loved her and, since I know she is your mate, I will willingly let her be happy."
"Continue." I said, even though his confessions made me want to hurt him more.
"Yesterday, Samantha told me to drug Serenity because you two weren't together and she was meant to be with you, but Serenity was only using you to leave the pack since most of the pack treated her roughly."
I growled at that but Max decided to continue.
"Earlier, in the library, I had overheard Luna and Samantha discussing a plan to poison Serenity so Samantha could be with you. I would have come to tell you immediately but it was already close to dinner time with me having no clue as to where you were and, honestly, after last night, I was scared to confront you. So, I went to the clinic and warned the medic about it in hopes that if he was on stand-by we might be able to save her. I understand if you never want me around Serenity again and I understand that what Luna and Samantha did was wrong ever, but please don't punish the whole pack for what they did."
Anger built in me as I listened to what Samantha and Casity did but my features softened as Max practically begged for the innocent pack member's lives. Then an idea formed in my head about how to make them pay and ensure justice would prevail while not doing anything that Serenity may despise.
"You would make a good Alpha son. What is your name?" I asked Max.
"Maximous Trivelli, but everyone calls me Max," he replied.
"Well Max, though your actions last night were very incriminating, I will not say who my mate may or may not see. Her forgiveness is between you and her. However, I will thank you for doing what you could to save her. Now, if you will follow me, I have some announcements to make and then I have to go see my mate in the hospital wing." I announced, but Max just shook his head.
"Pardon me if I am out of line, your highness, but I feel as if whatever announcement you need to make can wait. Currently, as your mate is in the hospital and possibly at death's door. Go see her and I will ensure that everyone you need meets in the grand hall in an hour."
"Good, I agree. Have the whole pack meet in the grand hall in exactly one hour."
I then left to go to the hospital wing as fast as I could, while Max left to gather the whole pack.
When I reached the hospital wing, it was complete chaos. There were medics and nurses running around everywhere shouting orders to each other, but one sound caught my attention the most, the sound of Serenity's heart monitor.
It beeping gave me some hope as I walked into her room until it sped up.
"What’s going on?" I shouted as the machine flat-lined and the head doctor ran up to her and started the defibrillator.
"Your highness, I need you to calm down so we can focus here," a medic that just came in said calmly.
"Calm down? Calm down? How do you expect me to calm down when my mate is dying?" I shouted as my demonic aura started to surround me.
"Get him out!" the head doctor shouted as a whole team of wolves tried to push me out.
" Y'all better save her, or goddess save me I will m******e this whole pack!" I threatened before going out in the hall and pacing. I wasn't paying attention to time or anything in that way. The only thing I paid attention to was if anyone came out of that room and when they did, thirty minutes later, I grabbed the nurse by her collar and growled, "how is she?"
"S...she is s...stable b...but..."
"But what?"
"B...But she isn't responding or waking up." the nurse nervously replied, and then my face fell.
"I have to go for now but I will be back and when I get back I want the doctor to give me a full report on what is going on with her," I ordered, and the nurse nodded and scampered off.
