Damien's POV
I sat there, on the other side of the door, and allowed the sounds of my angel breaking to tear me up inside. Anger was evident on my face as I wanted to rip that wolf to shreds for daring to touch what was mine. But deep down, I knew part of what hurt her was what I said. And that alone made me feel like I was breaking. I said it out of fear, though, not intending to hurt my little flower. What if I corrupted her with my curse or my demon surfaced and killed her? I would never be able to live with myself if I caused either of those or something worse to happen to her.
I had already linked with the Alpha and told him I wanted to speak with him about this matter first thing in the morning. It needs to be dealt with and swiftly before I do something that I regret. Quona also took a bit of her blood as I already had a suspicion of what would be found. If I was right, there would be hell to play. Not only is it immoral, but she was already fragile enough.
I know I told her to stay away from me, but I just couldn't stay away from her.. So, when I heard her breathing become even with sleep, I couldn't help but slip into the room and watch her sleep. She looks so peaceful in her sleep, just like I imagined an angel would look like..
Suddenly, her breathing sped up and her face contorted in fear as she began whimpering and grunting. I wished I knew what she was scared of and what badly hurt her so badly. I would rid the world of anything that scared her and demolish even the soul of those that have hurt her.
"P...prince D...Damien," she whimpered, causing my face to fall and my eyes to cloud with dread and guilt.
Is she scared of me, I wonder. I quietly walked up to her and rubbed her back and she calmed down.
As I turned to leave, however, she grabbed my hand and her green orbs shined as if she was crying.
"P...please stay." she begged and my resolve broke right then and there. I laid down beside her on the bed in hopes that once she fell asleep I could sneak out and sleep on the couch, but that wasn't in the cards. I ended up falling right to sleep as soon as my arms encircled the beauty that was my mate. Goddess help me, she will be the death of me.
I woke up early and Serenity was still asleep. After last night, I really didn't want to leave her alone, but I knew I was in dire need of a shower so I opted to lock the room door and jump in the shower real quick, hoping to be out before she woke up.
By the time I got out, however, Serenity was awake and blankly staring out the window, causing me to worry. I walked up to her with a tight, forced smile.
"I'm sorry about last night. I didn't mean any of that to happen," I said gently, which caused a fire to light in her eyes and pride to swell in my chest.
"No need to apologize, you're highness. I know I am but a lowly servant. Besides, the Beta's actions are not yours, nor did your ACTIONS hurt me," she said with the emphasis on the last actions and venom dripping from "your highness", causing my face to fall even more.
"What do you mean?" I asked, while she looked like she was internally berating herself.
"It was your words that hurt me the most and now your actions are confusing me. I have been a servant here since I was ten and they saved me. I haven't even been able to see one of my own kind since a rogue killed my aunt. I am a witch but I am constantly called human and if I so much as step out of line, not only am I punished severely, but I also must watch innocent people suffer."
As she spoke, I got angrier and angrier, but I fought with my demon to keep my cool and not loose my temper.
"First, let me apologize for hurting and confusing you. That was never my intention. I am cursed and don't want to hurt you or corrupt you anyway. Second, you're coming with me to the alpha's office and this will all be fixed by the time I go home at the end of the week, or there will be literal h*** to pay", I said, leaving no room to argue, "Now go get ready."
Serenity got up and I handed her a pair of black leggings and a red sports bra that the little Omega girl brought for her. She quickly went into the bathroom and changed. When she stepped out, I grunted, seeing her bare stomach as it made it hard to resist her, so I tossed her my favorite black hoodie. "Wear this before I do something we both will regret," I muttered, causing her to smirk as she pulled the hoodie on.
We both headed to the alpha's office and I opened the door and stepped in without bothering to knock. I turned towards Serenity when I noticed she didn't follow me. "Come on Serenity," I said at the same time that Alpha Sabastian said, "you can enter."
The look of fear and nervousness that briefly fell on Serenity's face before she entered the office angered me beyond any logical reason. It took all I had not the punch the Alpha when I noticed his knowing smirk after turning back to him.
"OK Alpha Sabastian, I asked for this meeting because, " I started, only to be interrupted by the obnoxious prick behind the desk.
"Straight to business, I like that. Well, I would prefer not to speak in front of others, but that.." he began and I interjected.
"Mr. Johnson first I came here to speak of something that has recently been brought to my attention. We will discuss that other matter at a later time. Also, it would do you and your pack good if you did not interrupt me again. Do you understand?" I said all in one breath, then waited for him to acknowledge my question with a nod. However, I did not miss the glare he aimed at my mate. I moved slightly as if to shield her and barely suppressed the growl by clenching my fist and continuing. "I have heard from multiple sources that not only have you lied to me about the nature of this girl, who you claimed is human, when in fact she is a witch, but also that you have been overly unreasonable with her punishments and even unjust with other servants. Are these accusations, in fact, correct?"
"Yes your highness, but she is a witch.." he began, but I wasn't interested in his excuses.
"I didn't ask for excuses, I asked for confirmation. Due to your actions that appear to be unjustified, I relieve Serenity of servitude to your pack and will be taking her with me. Does anyone in this room protest my judgement?" I asked, glaring at the Alpha to let him know he had better remain silent, as I didn't think that Serenity would protest.
"B...but your highness, I owe this pack so much. They saved me from the rogues and I am yet to turn 18 and have no money to survive. "
"I will handle your finances as for owing them, I am sure even Johnson here will say you have more then paid them back. Ain't that right?" I questioned, giving him a pointed look that said he had better not disagree.
"Yes, your highness, but the witches have been threatening us ever since we saved her! They said if we don't hand her over on her eighteenth birthday, they will burn my whole pack to the ground!" he shouted, causing the whole room to momentarily become so silent you could hear a pen drop.
The sound of sniffles behind me only fueled my rage more. "This prick thinks he can give my mate away? I'll show him!" I thought, then shouted, "No one is giving my mate to no one! I don't care what anyone thinks Serenity is coming with me when I leave! I will slaughter anyone who tries to stop her or give her away!"
The gasps I heard stopped my rant, causing me to realize that not only did I admit out loud that Serenity was my mate, but that it wasn't just me, Serenity, and Sabastian in the room anymore. When the hell did Samantha and her mother show up?
"Is this true, Damien? Please tell me it isn't," Luna Casity said while her daughter started sobbing.
"I...it's a cruel j...joke isn't it? I...is it because I mistreated you, Serenity?" Samantha pleaded, but Serenity remained silent as she stared at me with awe and curiosity in her eyes for a moment more before speaking.
"Alpha, I am going with Damien once his business with your pack is over," she said with determination, making my heart swell with pride once more.
"Very well, I will arrange everything. You may both go, but your highness, can we meet tomorrow to discuss the original business," Alpha Sabastian said, and I nodded.
"This causes for celebration," Luna Casity said, and I wasn't sure if I liked the look she was giving Serenity, "how about a big dinner tonight with the whole pack?"
"Sure," I replied, thinking I was only uncomfortable due to how they treated her before and hoping they were trying to turn over a new leaf.
