A Whisper in the dark

May examined the body beneath her, vampire definitely. She could smell the infection in the blood, it was still quiet fresh, only been infected for a few days. But the body's outward appearances indicated Siren. Their black eyes, scaled like skin on their forearms and legs. His black claws were drawn and slits on his throat that were their gills. It can't be, she thought, a vampire infected siren. This isn't good. No telling what kind of chaos they are capable of. Before she was to investigate this further, she heard her mentoree slink towards a human victim. She had told Ashley to stay back. That she was going to do a thorough perimeter check before giving her the okay to start an investigation of the scene. She only been assigned Ashley for 10 nights, and May already disliked her. She was overly confident, didn't pay attention and didn't listen to instructions and this was now the second time she had deliberately disobeyed an order. The last two before her were the same, May started to think about them. Considerably weak to be a Krsnk vampire in both speed and strength, and the virus seemed to control them most of the time. Not to mention they weren't all the brightest. This wasn't like her or her first mentoree Adam at all. Although Adam hadn't achieved rank of The Risen yet he had been transferred to another state after they failed a mission together - the mission was to subdue a witch. May saw it as a clear punishment, they had failed a serious mission together before that had dire consequences, and neither of them were questioned or transferred. No, the higher ups of her organization of the Krsnk were definitely pissed at them for letting the witch go. May followed Ashley's trail of her vampiric essence into the dockside warehouse, her dirty blonde hair bouncing as she walked, she radiated confidence walking into a potentially dangerous environment. The warehouse had been attacked, seemingly a targeted attack on the Evernights Order. The vampire order had ran a shipping company in these parts, and a handful of them had been murdered by what it looked like to be turned sirens. May still couldn't get her head around it. Mixing of bloods. It has never been done before and deeply worrying. May, heard the faint murmur of a human heart beat. O no. She ran up to catch Ashley but she was too late, Ashley had just sunk her teeth into a seriously injured construction worker, his heart rate stopped and then he was gone. Fucker you were warned, May thought. We never sink our teeth into human flesh. May fired her gun, aiming it preciously at her head. Ashley's head fell to the left blood gushing out of the entrance and exit wounds. May held her breath and sprung up to the roof beams of the warehouse. Hiding in the shadows. It wasn't her bullet that hit Ashley. Ashley's body fell in the wrong direction. Someone else's bullet hit her first. "f**k" May quietly whispered. As she slinked like a shadow into the rafters of the warehouse. Slowly positioning herself in the ideal position, for the best view point and escape if necessary. She was tense, she hadn't sensed any living being in the area beside that construction worker. She knew the construction worker was close to death when they arrived. She knew by his heart rate that the amount of blood loss was too great for her to even attempt to save him. However feeding off a human was strictly against Krsnk policies and doing so resulted in a death sentence. Vampires in the Krsnk were fed via intravenous each week at the Krsnk hospital - they were located all over the world - providing blood to vampires and also acting as a normal human hospital. May had been a vampire for over 40 years now and never sunk her teeth into a human flesh. A figure appeared below her his gun drawn. She could tell from his outline, a male with a muscular physique, over six feet tall. Black hair and dark features. European and looked to be around mid-twenties. But again she couldn't sense any heart beat nor smell any blood. He was dressed in black and was holding a pistol in each hand at the ready. He was scanning the room looking for her. "I heard a whisper." He spoke in a low voice, it almost made her hairs on the back of her neck stand up. "Where are you, level 5 whisper?" I need to figure out if this guy is human. I can't kill a human it is against protocol, she thought. She held her breath managing to get right above him. Waiting for him to turn around before lunging on to his back. He attempted to throw her off him, over his shoulder but she dung her elongated nails into his back. He grunted in pain, and she groaned with his grip on her shoulders. His pistols slid across the concrete floor. They both crashed and rolled under the loading dock platform. Each of them trying to get a solid grip around the other. He rolled smashing her on to the floor, she gasped in pain. Her broken bones quickly mending from her vampire virus. This guy is made of steel who the f**k is this! He managed to get on top of her, his large hands wrapped around her throat. She twisted herself and was able to get his face in between her legs attempting to cut off his air supply between her thighs. Footsteps echoed through the dock. She froze to listen and to her surprise so did he. It was her director. Albert Torez. Head of her division. She sensed his vampire power smelt his vampire blood. What was he doing here? He was dressed in his normal attire, a black suit and, white crisp shirt and black tie. He was with another.. A being that smelt like a wolf? A werewolf! And no ordinary werewolf either. He was strong but old. Alpha blood. Why was her director here with a werewolf? Their eyes seemed to gaze over them under the loading dock. They didn't see me or the man? They must not be able to sense me because I'm with this good for nothing annoying piece of …. May went to wriggle away from him. But he pulled her closer and put a hand to her mouth. He was human. She could feel his pulse now and smell his blood. His skin on her lips so close, feeling like silk. His blood smelt like a tropical juice of some kind. She felt her teeth start to elongate. "Well? Is she amongst the dead?" The werewolf spoke, the distraction was enough to pull her to her senses and she was able to retract her teeth. "No, her mentoree is and it looks like she did in fact take a shot at her. But she wasn't the one to kill her. Another one? Mmm very curious who shot you Miss Ashley." He picked up Ashley head by her hair to look her in the face. "If only the dead dead could talk." He tossed her to the ground. Her lifeless body almost bouncing against the concrete wall. "We need them all gone, all those pesky risen, the master said.." The werewolf said before he was cut off. "I know what the master said and we are down to one, these special sirens were meant to finish the job tonight. But it looks like they were preoccupied by something." May's eyes widened, my leader, my director wanted me dead. And all of the other risen are gone! All of them! All of my fellow Risen officers?! They can't be! May's stomach started to turn she felt like she was going to pass out. She did have a little idea that something was happening in the Krsnk, things had changed. The order to kill and then chaging it to subdue the witch, was a big sign for her. Witches were the earth mother's chosen humans blessed with magic. To subdue one in the name of the Krsnk for no crimes - under the guise of doing to earth mother's bidding didn't make any sense at all. "You will have to tell him you let one get away." The werewolf said. "She will report back to me tomorrow and we can reattempt things. We need to send another shipment of sirens anyways, if we want the entire Evernight order to be disposed. They look like they weren't as strong as what we originally hoped." May focused on her next move, as soon as she sensed she was in the clear and Albert and the werewolf were far enough away. She kneed the guy in the face smashing in his nose. He recoiled bringing his hands to his bloody nose. May gasped at the intense smell, she lingered for just a touch, before tripping over herself to get away. He was almost was able to grab her leg. But he was just a touch too slow for her. She ran, jumping and climbing any building or structure that got in away until she was in the clear. She reached for her phone, I have to contact Adam now! Her mind raced. Had they gotten to him already. They did say risen. He wasn’t technically a risen yet. She was getting increasingly frustrated with every pat of her black hoodie and black jeans was coming up empty. I can't find my f*****g phone!
