One month later - "I still can't believe we lost her!" Elodie said for the hundredth time as her and Emmerson walked towards their cottage in Woods. It was located at the edge of the Silver Thorn werewolf pack's territory. Elodie's half-brother, Alpha Leon, had built it for them. Family needed to stay close - he would say, trying to hide the fact that, despite being family, they were actually pretty close regardless. His Luna, Elara, was also Elodie's best friend, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Werewolf or not, she was family and a part of the pack. Elodie couldn't have asked for a better arrangement, and she was about to become Aunty El any day now, which she was just ecstatic about. "She shifted to a white owl and flew away. I tried to track her. That scent was intense but I couldn't. You try tracking an owl!" Emmerson sighed at her. "Besides, she was lucky you protected her from well, that blonde woman.." "Yes let's not go there. I don't know how we are going to deal with that one." Elodie responded to her other half. She would call Emmerson her mate. After all they could mind link each other, he could feel her pain, smell her miles away. And even chose her over his fated mate. But she wasn't a wolf. She couldn't feel his pain or sense when he was close or far away. She was jealous, jealous that she wasn't a werewolf, and felt guilty feeling that way. After all, this time last year she didn't have anyone in her life at all, and now she was surrounded by family and loved ones. She hated how she still wanted more and the fact that her half-sister, who had the same father as her, could shift! Not into a wolf but an owl! How could she do that? If I could shift, I wonder if I could feel Emmerson's pain like he does mine? "Elodie" Emmerson's voice pulled her out of her thoughts. He could tell she was beating herself up again, he put his hand to her face. " It will be alright. You know how amazing you are, right?" He leaned down to put his head on hers. She felt herself relax in his arms and tilted her head up to kiss him. His grip suddenly tightened, and he turned his head toward the cabin. Before Elodie could even react, Emmerson had shifted, running towards the direction of the cottage. "Ugh Cypress! Those were Emmerson's good pants!" Elodie whined. I heard someone at our home. He mind linked her. Elodie ran to catch up to him. You didn't smell anything though! She responded. She used the wind to push her so she could keep up with him. She saw a black figure sitting on the steps of their cottage. Cypress growled and then stopped as the figure stood up. "May!" Elodie ran to her, almost tripping over their garden gate in the process. May held up her hands to stop her from getting too close. But Elodie wrapped her up in a hug. "I need an objective..." May began to sob in Elodie's arms. "I can't do this, I can't do this alone. I'm sorry I didn't know where else to go." She said through streams of tears running down her face. Tears started to form in Elodie's eyes, her heart hurt from seeing how much pain May was going through and she was so touched that May had come to her. She trusts me so much. I need to take care of her after she lost her best friend Elodie thought to herself. I know Emmerson didn't like Adam, but he was such a good guy. Save me more than a few times. Elodie let her eyes take her in more. She was absolutely filthy. "May look at you! You're a mess! Have you taken care of yourself at all?!" Elodie pulled her back in for a hug, rubbing her back. "I didn't want him to track me down again. So I walked." "YOU WALKED!" How long have you been waiting for us?" Elodie was in shock. She walked all the way from Florida! That would easily take more than a month to do. She is a vampire, so a bit faster but still! "Only a day or two. I don't know, I can't really keep track of time at the moment. O I did rob a hospital and repurposed your fridge. I hope that's okay." Emmerson, who had now shifted back, grunted disapprovingly behind Elodie, knowing it would probably affect Elodie's cooking, which he was very much looking forward to. "Of course it is. But c'mon let's get you cleaned up. Feeling like yourself again." Elodie took May inside and headed for the bathroom. The cottage was spacious, but very homely. With lots of houseplants and sun light pouring through the windows. Very warm, welcoming and homely. Elodie missed her home greatly and was eager to start restocking her kitchen. After all, Alpha Leon would want one of her meals as soon as possible. The bathroom was a tidy and simple one, with a simple bath attached to the wall, shower on the opposite wall. Sink with cabinet and toilet next to the bath. Elodie ran the bath, making sure the water was warm. May started to cry uncontrollably again. "It's all my fault, he is gone, and it's all my fault." "Shh no it's not, people will do bad things, and sometimes we can't stop them." Elodie whispered and also stopping herself from getting emotional. Adam had told her something very similar months ago when she was blaming herself too. Elodie bathed May washing her hair, and getting her clean again as May just cried. May was sitting on the edge of the bath in a towel while Elodie dried her hair. "There is a pubescent girl wolf in your house" May murmured. "Mikayla!" Elodie gasped. There was a banging on the bathroom door. "Elodie! Is it true you have a vampire in there? I can smell her! Can we see! Has she hurt you? Does she have a reflection? Elodie! Answer me!" "Are you okay if I answer her?" Elodie asked May. May shrugged, and stood up, keeping her towel around her. Elodie opened the door. "Listen Mikayla, Can you bring some of your clothes for our…. guest, please? I don't think she will like any of mine." Mikayla looked up at Elodie with her big brown eyes and slowly pushed the door open more to see the 'guest'. May looked down at the young girl peeking her head through the door way. She gave her a sideways glance. She tilted her head back elongated her fangs and let her eyes flash red. "O my goddess! Yes! Of course! Wow! So cool!" Mikayla was giddy with excitement. "Mikayla!" Elodie said with a tone that was begging her to keep it together. Mikayla was so excited she shifted in the living room and ran out the front door. "HEY! NO SHIFTING IN THE HOUSE!" Elodie yelled after her. My, she is growing every day, Elodie thought as she watched Dawn, Mikayla's wolf sprint off home. She is only 16 years old and has so much to learn, but she is getting a bit closer every day. Mikayla had been a bit of a troublemaker once she got her wolf. But she found Elodie and Emmerson one night and was just enamored by them. Elodie happily took her in. Showed her how they took care of the garden. Emmerson taught Dawn how to hunt. They very much became her older siblings overnight. "You didn't have to do that you know." Elodie sighed at May. "You don't owe anyone any... dramatics." May slid down and sat on the bathroom floor. "Adam would have thought this whole thing was hilarious." May muttered. "Yes. He would of. He would have said something to add to it." Elodie responded, trying to encourage her to talk about it. "ELODIE!!!!!" A high-pitched yell echoed through the cottage.
