Hugo’s POV
“Elijah what’s the update on the rogues?” I questioned as I looked down at the map of our land.
“There has been more sighting of them. Around four, maybe five so far.”
This was my pack that was at stake here, I can’t have rogues sniffing around even if they just wanted to pass through.
“And what happened with them?” I asked, this time looking straight at him.
“Uh.. we let them go as they weren’t in our border Al-“ my fist hit the oak table cutting him off. Pain shot up my hand, barely feeling it.
This anger, it didn’t feel like mine. Well, not completely.
“No” I said quietly
“if you see a rogue” my gaze turning to all of them, “you don’t hesitate. I don’t care if they are just on the border or trying to pass through, you kill them. Do I make myself clear?”
I was a good enough fighter to fight them off and if my pack members couldn’t be bothered doing what I already told them, I would do it myself.
“Yes alpha”
They all said in unison. “Elijah, have the younger pups started training more?” I asked, I was beginning to run out of patience with this. A war was beginning and my own brother and beta was slacking, I thought he’d back me up in the decisions I decided to make.
“Yes Alpha, they’ve already began and they’re coming along nicely. We have our best warriors teaching them” Finally some good news
“You can all leave, if you see any more rogues, I want them either killed or thrown in the dungeon. I don’t care if they’re man, woman or child, understand?” I told them, they will get it in their head to obey me.
I strode over to the window looking down on some warriors training and took out the piece of paper they had found on the other rogue.
“You will pay for what you did to my mate. We are coming”
Who the hell was this? My brain was wrecked from trying to figure this out, going back to when I was a child. We were a peaceful pack, unless we had to fight even then there wasn’t many fights.
I took my phone out and rang the number who could help.
“Can you come to my office? I need to speak to you about the rogues”
“I’m on my way” and I put my phone away walking back to my desk.
Five minutes later and I heard the knocking on my office door, “come in” I shouted and finished the last bit of paperwork.
“Dad, good you’re here. I wanted to run this over you. Given this was your pack before mine you could help me with some insight” I said, passing over the note, hope sitting on my chest that he could help figure who this person was.
“The note that was found on one of the rogues, Elijah gave me it when I woke up after passing out.” I told him, trying to think again.
“When Elijah showed us we honestly had no idea - still no idea who this could even be. Your mother and I ran this pack for years together and while one of the strongest packs, we never really fought many other packs.” He said, diminishing any hope I had that he would be able to help.
“So no one in this pack had ever took away someone’s mate?” I asked
“No son, not that I can remember. I think whoever this is, is wanting to just take over the pack.” He said, not that his words helped any more than what I was already thinking.
“Have you seen Iris?” I asked him, I hadn’t seen her all day and she hadn’t texted back.
“No, have you not spoken to her?”
“No I haven’t. I tried texting her earlier but she’s not responded which isn’t like her” Where the hell was she.
“I’ll go and look around for her while I’m checking how the training is going” I told him, standing up to walk out with him.
“I’m sure she’s fine, she’s tough” he reassured me, tapping me on my shoulder.
I walked to our room to get changed and noticed she had been in here for a while. Changing into more comfortable clothes, I threw on a pair of shorts and kept my shirt off and decided to join in with the training.
The moment I got outside, I was hit with a scent. A faint, familiar scent. Iris, mixed with something else. Something wrong, very wrong.
