Adam's pov

I took in a deep breath as  I got out of my truck. After spending Four and a half hour's on the road It was nice to be within civilization again. Why my father wanted us to go train in the middle of nowhere when we have an amazing training facility right here is beyond me. To top it all off I have patrol tonight and a ball tomorrow.  This ball has been a huge deal for years it marks the start of spring and the end of the war but this year my parents are extra intense about it.  Some of the boy's are practicing the new moves they learned this week as we put away the last of the equipment. 

"you guy's going to be ready for tomorrow?" Theo my best friend and future beta asked me and Nate. 

"I'll be tired but I'll be there." I say faking amusement. 

"Oh come on it will be great. There will be so many cute she-wolves and lots of free food what could be better?" Nate asked 

Me and Theo gave each other the same look and then in unison responded with "whipped!"

"It is called love and you will both feel it soon enough." Nate said with a chuckle as he took off towards my parents house. If only we knew just how right he was. 

"Speaking of love you going to this ball with Madison?" Theo asked 

"Whoa ! who said anything about love she is my girlfriend not my mate. Things with her are not serious." I shout in a panic.

"calm down man. I was just messing." Theo tried to reassure me. 

"No it's fine. I'm just feeling the pressure." 

"what do you mean?" Theo asked in confusion.

"My parents want me to find my mate so I can officially take over as alpha and Madison is well Madison."  

As we neared my parents we shifted the conversation. It was so nice being home and eating real food again. For the last year I have been living in a pack house down the street and conditions there have been shaky at best. People are constantly moving in and out. 

Just as I'm getting comfortable my mother and Theo start conversing.   

"How was it?"  my mother asks as she places the last bit of food on the table.

"Really informing." I reply as i shove more food into my mouth.

"Well I am glad." My mom says warmly 

"How was your week Luna Whitney?"  Theo asks such a kiss-ass. 

"Pretty good, dear. A little hard with all the quite and spare time but you know what can you do." My mom said jokingly but I sensed some tension.  

Theo started to say something but before words a came out he darted across the room grabbing and sniffing Kate  one of my sisters friends

"Mate." Theo and Kate said at the same time. Oh come on. 

I rolled my eyes as they started kissing like they were dying. He just turned 18 like three hours ago how did he already find his mate? I sighed and returned to eating my lunch. Soon everyone started to clear out of the dining room. Just then I felt an itch in the back of my mind as my father mind linked me asking me to come to his office. 

When I left the stairs and began to head towards my fathers office I saw my sister sitting with her friend and theo's sister Tessa. Ashley quickly hushed Tessa when she noticed me. Having grown up with both girls I knew something was up but before I had a chance to investigate my father opened his office door and ushered me inside. Before the door was fully shut giggles filled the hallway causing my father to give me a questioning look. Not knowing what they could be up to I just shrugged my shoulders. 

my Father cleared his throat and began speaking. 

"I wanted to inform you of the rouge attacks that have been taking place the last two nights on the east before you left for patrol. "

"OK.Have they been serious?" 

"no just a few young wolves trying to prove something." 

"So what did you really want to speak to me about?" I questioned

"I want you to give a speech at the ball tomorrow." he said sternly

"That seems simple enough."

"You will declare yourself alpha and let it be known that you are officially taking over the pack." he said basically pouring ice down my back.

"What?! I thought you were going to wait to step down until I found my mate?! Do you not think I have a mate?! " Panic was setting in this was happening fast. okay not really but i am not ready. 

"no nothing like that." he said placing his hand on my back.

"The seers paid me a visit yesterday. Oreta saw that you will find your mate very soon. She will be strong and guide us through the dark times ahead." He continued

"Dark times? that sounds foreboding." I said as I arched my eyebrow at him.

"A prophecy has been written and tensions within the supernatural world have been high." He informed me. 

"My plate just got very full." I said jokingly. 

"This is just he first step. After you announce we will plan the ceremony for you to be crowned. I have spoken to your mother and by the summer solstice you will be alpha king." 

"Well on that note I have patrol tonight soooo....." I said getting up to leave.

"Yes. go on." my father  said dismissing me. 

Shutting The door to his office I layed my back against it trying to process my emotions from the several bombs he just droped on me.
