I fell asleep soon after the nurse finished all her checks. I thought I would have more trouble with all the hospital noises but I didn't. My body was simply too tired for me not to sleep. I woke in the early morning to a sun filled room. The sunrise was beautiful but overwhelmingly bright and I was forced to close the shades a little. I left them open just enough to keep some of the golden light streaming through.   I had just gotten back into bed when the nurse came back in, doing another round of checks and introducing the next shift. Then I was brought a breakfast which was edible but barely. I picked at my food. I wasn't all that hungry. I had too much on my mind. Too many decisions.
