The Bright Side

1055 Words
Most teens are usually excited for the last bell of the day to ring, but unfortunately I didn't have that luxury. It was the day after my birthday and my only gift was a direct order from Alpha Young telling me I had to clean his house.  You should not have wrecked his car. My wolf spoke. As if she were not the mastermind behind the whole thing.  I sighed aloud for the hundredth time today dreading my duties for the next couple of hours. The thought of cleaning the mate who rejected me's home felt like a sick joke.  "Sweetie", Trina's voice cut my thoughts of rage, "You've been staring at the clock all period and look-" I looked down at my hands to see a snapped pencil squeezed between my thumb and index finger. This is the third one today.  I rolled my eyes and began to gather my things before Trina walked me to my locker. My job hadn't even begun and my blood pressure was already on the rise.  The walk to my locker was silent. Trina attempted to cheer me up with words of encouragement, but I just could not bring myself to smile.  "Lonnie", Trina shook my shoulders, "You can't let this ruin everyday-" "-Why?", My face twisted, "Weekends are my time Trina- My time to do whatever the f**k I want to do. When my weekends are ruined, everyday is ruined" I pouted putting my books into my locker and getting my bag, "I can't believe my parents even agreed to this bullshit" Trina shrugged tilting her head to the side, "In their defense, you did wreck his car-" "-But in my defense, he did reject me", I once again interrupted. I slammed my locker shut and it was as if on cue, my eyes locked with those beautiful brown orbs. Without effort, my face twisted in disgust as I let out the most obnoxious scoff. I looked to Trina, who noticed the interaction. Concern laced her voice as she whispered, "On the bright side, you don't have to see him most of the time because he's training with the pack" My eye twitched, "Yeah, on the bright side" _______ I approached the Young home in usual awe with the architecture. The Young’s owned a three story glass house on the banks of a lake that separated them from the rest of town. From afar, it almost seemed as though the home was floating in the middle of the forest and the only thing keeping one from the inside were these huge, luminous transparent steps. The Young’s had one of the most luxurious, if not most expensive, home in town. Unlike most in the pack, Alpha Troy and Luna Marta were very successful in both the natural and supernatural world.  In addition to running the pack, Alpha Troy was a brain surgeon while his wife worked as a Veterinarian.  After stalling through awe of the home, I mustered enough strength to walk up the stairs and knock on the door.  After a few moments, I was greeted with a women named Jean and then later, with a woman named Lois, both of whom were maids. The Young house only held two maids who worked everyday from 7am to 4pm. Both maids seemed to be at least 30 which told me that I was more than likely not going to make many friends here.  The first line of business was to get me out of my school clothing and into my maid outfit. After that, I was lead to the kitchen where Lois sat me down on the large marble island.  “Okay so, how long will you be here for?”, she began.  “Alpha Troy said I have to come every Friday right after school until 6..”, I trailed attempting to hide the annoyance in my voice, “...and as for the rest of the weekend, I’m here from 8am to 4pm” Lois nodded before walking over to the middle of the island where she went into a drawer and pulled out what looked like a list.  My face twisted.  “Okay well-,” She then looked at my face and paused before continuing. Lois rested her hand on mine and smiled, that older woman smile when they’re about to say something you don’t want to hear, “Now I know this isn’t how any 16 year old wants to spend their weekends-“ Yeah, no s**t.  “-But look on the bright side of things, you could have gotten kicked out of the pack”, Lois squeezed my hand in reassurance and I sent her a forced smile. She then put the list in front of me.  Lois explained that everything highlighted in red were urgent and needed to be done by the end of the day, while everything that was not highlighted, was to be done by the end of the weekend. She then flipped the list over which showed a map of the home and where every room was located. “Now there is no specific order and, as you can see, the supply closet is the first narrow door to your left after you exit the kitchen”, Those were her last words before she went about her daily duties. A sigh escaped my lips as I looked at the list.  Laundry Clean the Den Clean Don's Room A sarcastic chuckle escaped  at the sight of his name. My life must have been a joke to these people. Refusing to get up right away, I simply sat for awhile admiring their kitchen. Again, stalling with awe.  It was grand. The floor tiles were an egg white color and there were light bulbs hanging from the tall ceiling. The kitchen seemed so modern looking. When I turned around and saw the forest scenery through the glass, it felt like I was in a dream. Whoever had their hand in the design of this home must’ve been a genius. “-Avalon, you’re only here for two hours, get started-“ My face fell as Jeans voice cut through my thoughts. Without saying a word to respond, I began my first hour of slavery.
