Chapter 8

Max's Pov: "I don't know about that, but I am against it. That girl is too wicked. She will try to make things hard for Eve." Mom says, sighing. My heart suddenly skips a beat hearing her name. Why? "By the way, I like her." Mom says, switching to her cheerful mode. "Like who?" I ask, trying to control my heart that is beating rapidly just from hearing her name. Why? I don't even know her. "Eve, she is a really nice girl. She is too innocent and honest completely different from Emily. I can already tell that you are gonna like her!" Mom says like an excited kid. "But you only just met her, how can you be so sure about that? What if she is acting?" I ask teasingly. I don't doubt my mother's choice. If she said that the girl is nice and honest, then it must be true. She is never wrong in judging people. She always hits the nail on the head. I hate to say this, but she has really sharp hawk like eyes, she always manages to see through people. Including me. "Eyes Max, eyes are called the windows of the soul for a reason. And her eyes are really expressive. She is too innocent. I felt almost guilty that I could see and understand every little emotion in her eyes." Mom says, "I am sure you will understand it too when you meet her later. I think you guys will get along well." "Oh yeah?" I ask fully well aware that I like her more then just liking her already. "Yeah, she is really pretty too! Just like a doll. I was shocked after seeing her. She might look like Alina, but she is a hundred times prettier than Alina for sure. You two will make a wonderful couple!" Mom says shipping us already. "Well, of course we will, I wouldn't dare let your excellent genes go to waste now, would I?" I say teasingly. She looks at me a little shocked before saying, "Did you just agree to the marriage? Haven't you been against it for the last few months?" I can feel her sharp and suspicious gaze on me, trying to find anything that gives me away, but I just smile without saying anything. The reason I was unwilling to accept this marriage itself is going to be my wife, how can I dare refuse the marriage proposal now? "Well, I am not against it anymore. And for your information, I wasn't against it. I was just unwilling. "I say clarifying myself. "What's up with you? You aren't planning to pretend to agree and then fly to NY and hide there are you?" Mom asks suspiciously. I snort and roll my eyes. "No mom, whom would I even run to there? You know your poor son doesn't have any friends." She scoffs snickering, "Poor my foot! Your friend list is longer than my lifespan! No one would guess you are a mafia heir by the way you behave outside." "That's exactly the plan !" I say, winking at her, "You look beautiful by the way, young lady." "I always look beautiful." She smiles flipping her hair back. "Oh by the way, you should come with me to the Hudson mansion again tomorrow." "Why?" I ask "Old master Hudson wants Eve to meet you." I frown and purse my lips. She just got back. The Hudson family should focus on solving their own family matters now. Moreover, she still has so much to learn and adapt to after getting better. "I don't think I should meet her this soon." I say disapprovingly. "I think so too. But he insisted that you guys meet. So I couldn't refuse." Mom says, sighing and leaning back against the seat. "You guys would have met after some time anyway, so it doesn't matter, I guess." "Does... she know that I am her fiancé?" I ask with a pause. "No, her body was already weak, and she looked like she would run away when old master told her about the exchange and all. So I didn't dare bring up the marriage, I think old master felt the same way, so he didn't bring it up either." Mom says. My heart feels a little heavy thinking of the condition I found her in. She was drugged, not once but at least a few times. There were 5 injection marks on her arm. Thankfully, I got there on time and nothing bad happened. Those goons were tortured badly before I handed them over to old master Hudson's man. I wanted to deal with them all myself, but as Emily's parents were involved, it was Hudson's family's matter, not my place to interfere.
