The ancestors of the Zhang family were descendants of the Zhengyi School of Taoism. By Zhang He's generation, the family had declined. When the apocalypse came, there emerged unknown blood-sucking plants and undead zombies. Relying on the little remaining Taoist talisman magic he had, Zhang He managed to eke out a living among these evil creatures for ten years. In the end, he died a tragic death under the blood vines in the abyss.

However, he was reborn and returned to the time ten years ago, before the apocalypse arrived. After being reborn, Zhang He immediately rushed into the utility room and found the only remaining Taoist item in his home—the statue of the Celestial Worthy of Primordial Beginning. Inside the statue was hidden a small walnut, and within the walnut was a secret technique.

Zhang He accidentally picked up a cub of a leopard that had been brutally killed. Deciding to take a risk, he applied the secret technique to the little leopard and successfully refined it into a being that was half-beast and half-ghost, naming it Jin Zhanyuan. As Zhang He cultivated, Jin Zhanyuan grew alongside him, gradually developing self-awareness and increasingly strengthening his possessiveness towards Zhang He.

In the early part of the novel, it mainly tells the story of Zhang He collecting and preparing supplies, planning how to survive in the apocalypse, including purchasing and making supplies, as well as the upgrade of his portable space. In the later part, it focuses on depicting how Zhang He improves himself through cultivation. At the same time, there is also the relationship line between him and Jin Zhanyuan. In the end, Zhang He and Jin Zhanyuan left the mortal world together.

Chapter 1 Alive
Countless people who had died and then come back to life surged out, making all kinds of movements that normal people couldn't perform. They walked and crawled numbly. From the bloody black hole, dry and crimson rotten vines oozed out continuously. In an instant, they filled the sky and the earth. The shrill and terrified screams of his companions filled his ears, and the cold and damp ground was gradually covered with blood. The last piece of yellow paper in his hand had already burned to ashes, and the only life-saving talisman was gone. No, he had to escape... At the moment he turned around, he heard the spine-chilling sound of sharp thorns piercing into flesh and blood. The intense pain made his eyes widen and c***k. Then his heart was pierced, his blood vessels were torn apart, and blood spurted out. He felt that it was better to die than to live... Jin Zhanyuan opened his eyes, sweating profusely. He didn't smell the stench of blood, nor did he see the dark red rotten vines. There was no intense pain in his body as before. What had just happened seemed like just a nightmare... When his gaze fell on the second-hand laptop with the screensaver on the table beside him, he suddenly sat up with a start. No, even if it was a nightmare, he shouldn't be here... Then he vigilantly scanned the surroundings. However, upon looking, he gradually became puzzled. The two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment of more than forty square meters in front of him seemed both strange and familiar at the moment. His gaze lingered hesitantly on every place that looked familiar. On the opposite wall was pasted a large poster of a certain pop star singer that he had loved the most more than ten years ago. There were old tables and chairs in the room. When he looked down, he was wearing an old cotton T-shirt and beach pants. Under him was an orange cotton sofa cover that had been washed a bit faded. On the right was the balcony. Looking over, the sun shone brightly, and two pairs of half-worn white sneakers that had been washed clean were drying outside the balcony. Jin Zhanyuan If he remembered correctly... This should be the residence where he had lived more than ten years ago. At that time, he was just a fresh graduate intern, earning a few hundred yuan a month, and he had been complaining every day while living in this old building that was about to be demolished and left to him by his parents. Then his gaze shifted to the half bowl of Master Kong Spicy Noodles that hadn't been finished on the table. His throat involuntarily swallowed due to thirst and hunger. More than ten years ago, this was junk food, but in the apocalypse, even such a piece of fried instant noodles with no nutritional value at all was a luxury food, and one might even have to pay the price of one's life for it. His gaze was almost burning as it fixed on the half bowl of somewhat swollen noodles. Saliva began to secrete uncontrollably. However, instead of reaching out rashly to take it, he suddenly closed his eyes and bit the tip of his tongue. The sharp pain immediately refreshed his spirit. The familiar smell of blood came from his mouth, but there was no numb feeling, nor was there any dizziness. That is to say, the scene in front of him now was not an illusion caused by the toxin of the blood vines piercing into his body, but a real existence. In other words, he... had returned to ten years ago? This idea was really incredible... To confirm, Zhang He's gaze reluctantly moved away from the bowl of instant noodles. He slowly got up and walked to the window. He hesitated and then reached out his hand. Finally, he opened the window. What greeted him was not the coldness, not an illusion, not darkness, and not the suffocating screams and panic. Instead, it was the warm sunlight shining on his face, and a trace of dry and refreshing breeze in the air. In his ears, he heard the noisy sound of people coming and going in the small market downstairs, which was still as bustling as it had been more than ten years ago. Zhang He's heartbeat gradually quickened from slow. The whole person seemed to come back to life in an instant. When he slowly took a small step back and calmly closed the window, his heart was pounding wildly in his chest, and his eyes also sparkled with excitement. After pausing for half a minute, he turned around and returned to the sofa again. Then he opened the date on the computer with trembling hands and confirmed it over and over again. It was not until three minutes later that he released the mouse, and his heart gradually calmed down. If all this was true, if the time was right, then he had indeed returned to the year before the start of the apocalypse. He didn't know whether this was a bug set by heaven or an opportunity to reshuffle the cards. But in any case, for him, being able to be reborn was a huge surprise... Before his shocked mood could subside, thinking of one thing, he immediately jumped up from the sofa and rushed towards the room where sundries were placed beside. The so-called sundries were just some old items that were not used on a daily basis. Relying on his somewhat vague memory, he finally dug out a statue of the Celestial Worthy of Primordial Beginning from the bottom of a thick cardboard box in the corner. It was about one and a half feet high and extremely heavy in his hand. The whole statue was carved from stone and painted with copper paint on the outside. The gaps were stuffed with oil stains and dust, making it look a bit dirty. At this moment, even if he threw it on the roadside, I'm afraid no one would pay much attention to it. Zhang He, however, couldn't hide his joy on his face. The stone statue was quite heavy in his hand. In the past, he had always thought it was a solid statue. It was not until later that he accidentally discovered that there was actually a hollow area as big as a palm in it. Unfortunately, when he found it back then, it had already been smashed, and most of the things in the hollow had been burned. He had only dug out a peach pit the size of a thumb from a complete broken piece. It was precisely this peach pit that had allowed him to survive for several years fortunately. This statue of the Celestial Worthy of Primordial Beginning in his hand, Zhang He had seen his father often offer sacrifices to it when he was a child. According to his father, the ancestors of the Zhang family belonged to the ancient Lingbao School and were good at talisman magic. However, by his father's generation, most of it had been abandoned. By Zhang He's generation, he couldn't even distinguish the head and tail of a talisman. So far, the only remaining thing of the ancient Lingbao School was this stone statue. Zhang He gathered his thoughts and placed this stone statue on the ground. He searched all around it but couldn't find the exit to open the hollow area. If there was no access point, how could the things inside be put in? Thinking of this, he searched twice more without giving up, but still found nothing. At this moment, if he forcefully smashed open the stone statue, he was afraid of damaging the things inside, and he didn't even think about asking someone for help. Just as he was reaching out his hand and constantly looking for clues in the gestures and expressions of the statue, he suddenly found several black dots on the base, which looked extremely familiar. He counted them, and there were exactly seven. At first glance, they looked like small dents caused by knocking when moving it. Upon closer inspection, the edges and corners of each dent were extremely similar. If it had been in the past, he might not have thought anything of it, but Zhang He ten years later seemed to have an inkling. He raised his left hand and looked at his palm. He saw that the positions of the seven small moles on his left palm were exactly the same as the positions of the seven dots on the base. After hesitating for a moment, he aligned his palm with the seven dots on the base. After a while, he heard a soft sound coming from inside the stone. The connected part of the seven dots at the bottom of the stone base had cracked, revealing the dark hollow area inside. Zhang He was overjoyed. He found a flashlight in the box and shone it towards the hole. What he saw first seemed to be a piece of cloth. When he took it out, it was an ancient silk. It was folded to be the size of a piece of rock sugar. When unfolded, it was about five feet square, and it was densely covered with tiny characters. He quickly glanced at it and found that it seemed to be the method of making talismans. Then he took out something the size of a duck egg. As soon as he took it out, it suddenly smelled extremely stinky. It was soft in shape and didn't stick to his hand. It was dark and dirty in color and smelled even worse than a rotten duck egg. Helplessly, he had to put it aside for the time being. Finally, he took out that peach pit. When he took it out from the stone fragments back then, it was already broken, and only the peach kernel was left inside. Due to extreme hunger, he had eaten the peach kernel, and then he had gotten a tender sprout. Zhang He had survived countless times by eating the leaves of the tender sprout during the ten years. At this moment, all the things inside the statue of the Celestial Worthy of Primordial Beginning had been taken out. He held these three things in his hands and took them to the table near the balcony where there was sufficient light. After hesitating for a moment, he first unfolded the five-foot-square silk to see if there was any introduction about these three items. At a quick glance, this piece of silk seemed to record the method of making a Seven Star Talisman. At first sight, it seemed very troublesome. First, one needed to practice a method of breathing and exhaling to make the essence, qi, and spirit full and condense them in the palm. Then one could draw the talisman. The paper, cinnabar, pen, and ink used for drawing the talisman were all very particular, and there were a total of seven talismans. Even though he had some foundation, he still only half-understood the words and sentences. However, he had been forced to learn something similar to two of them by his father when he was a child. It was precisely these two talismans that had saved his life several times. Zhang He already knew in his heart that this was a life-saving talisman technique, and he carefully put it away. Then he looked at that stinky, dark, and dirty duck egg. Just after taking it out for a moment, the room was filled with an overpowering stench. He had to hold his breath and bend over to study it for a long time, but he still couldn't figure out what this thing was. He had to find an empty water cup to put it in and cover it with a lid to seal it temporarily. Finally, he picked up that peach pit and examined it for a long time. He remembered that when he found it, the stone statue had been broken into pieces, and this peach pit had also been cracked in two places. After being roasted by fire countless times, the shell had turned pitch black, which was completely different from the slightly reddish color of the peach pit in his hand at this moment. The making of the Seven Star Talisman couldn't be completed in a day. The purpose of that duck egg, which had no maggots but smelled extremely stinky, was still unclear. Only the peach pit in front of him was something he knew a bit more about. Then he took a knife and a pointed cone tool and prepared to pry open the shell to get the kernel. However, after prying for a long time, he got nothing. There wasn't even a mark left on the shell of the peach pit, and Zhang He was sweating profusely from his efforts. At the same time, he was shocked in his heart. Although he knew that this peach pit was no ordinary thing, he couldn't even break it open by hitting it hard with a dumbbell. What on earth was this thing?
