THE GOOD DAYS

ALARIC'S POV I led Malia out of the car and held her hand as we walked down to the massive land that held the pack central. A large dome sat at the center of the land surrounded with smaller buildings. The dome was the main meeting point for official events in WildHearts Pack and town in general, while the smaller buildings were the specific foundations created and funded by the pack’s revenue to help the less privileged wolves. But of course Malia didn't know this. And I wanted her to. I wanted her to know everything down to the smallest details about the pack she was going to rule alongside me. “Wow” she exclaimed. “Do you know where we are?” I asked her. She shook her head in response. “WildHearts Pack central. This is where all the magic happens” I joked. “Why don't you live here then?” She asked innocently. “I might have changed the rules a little” I added with a wink. Malia let out a knowing smirk. “I see why you're the stubborn Alpha” she teased. “I guess you're finally convinced pumpkin” I answered with a smile. “Anyways, it's much better living somewhere else where I can have all my privacy, don't you think?” I posed. Malia chuckled and walked past me, her left hand tracing the intricate designs of the dome. “This is really selfless of you, Alpha” she commented. “What is?”. “The foundations. I remember my uncle Lowe would always talk endlessly about how one foundation helped in paying most of our bills. I think it was the SINGLE PARENT FOUNDATION” She said. “Oh. So you knew about the foundations then..” I mentioned. “Yes. I'm not as clueless about these things as you think, Alpha” she teased. “Well, that makes my work easier, doesn't it?”. I stepped forward and rested my hand on her waist. She eased into my touch and rested her head on my shoulder for a few seconds. “I know I've been acting strong and capable for a while, but in truth I feel overwhelmed, Alpha” Malia confessed. “I'm constantly thinking, will I fit in? Will I be able to play the role of Luna or will I back out like a coward? This is a whole new territory for me” she added. “Lia, trust me. I will be with you every single step of the way, I promise. I will teach you the ropes myself and I will never leave your side even when you ease into being Luna. I will burn down the entire world for your sake if it comes to that, and anyone who as much as makes a cough sound to oppose or insult your leadership, I'll have their heads on a platter. I'm giving you my word, Lia” I promised her, looking straight into her eyes. I meant every single word and I wanted her to know that. I wanted her to trust in my capabilities as her future husband enough to be a confident Luna. “I love you” she said. I was a bit thrown off because she had never said this before. I drew her lips into a long and sultry kiss, feeling like the luckiest wolf in the entire world. … “You're sure this woman is the right one for you?” Lucas, one of the council members asked me. I had summoned a meeting via mindlink to discuss my upcoming marriage plans with them in the company of my father, Alpha Raul. Besides the fact that most of them were older than me, I wanted them to be carried along through the entire process. “Yes. A hundred percent” I answered. “I'm just happy to hear you've found a companion after what happened with Kurt's mother” my father commented. I didn't like talking about my past relationships, especially not the one with Kurt's mother, but it was good to have his support. “We do hope she is a respectable woman. You know her personal reputation affects yours as Alpha…”. “Yes, I'm aware” I cut in, a bit annoyed. “When will the council be meeting this special lady?” Philip, another council member inquired. “When we are both ready, I'll bring her to meet the council” I answered, exuding confidence. I knew they were itching to push the topic, but had fears of a repeat of the last time occurring. They had chosen to watch and judge from a safe distance and I wholeheartedly respected that decision. “Well then, gentlemen! We have preparations to make! The marriage of the year begins soon!” My father announced, beaming with smiles. I grinned, feeling like a little wolf. I left, beaming with smiles. I knew they would have different opinions after meeting her but I didn't mind. I was ready to go through every process possible for Malia's sake. But before they would meet her, she had to be prepared and wield the aura of a future Luna. … I had taken some time off work to help Malia adjust to living with me, but I had missed a ton of important meetings and Tasha could no longer fill in for me, so I left for work early the next day. “Bye pumpkin, I'll see you after work. You can have one of the maids give you a tour of the house or ask for the WiFi password if you get bored. I love you” I told her, planting kisses on her neck. She rolled over to get a glimpse of my face. “I love you too. Have a good day” she grunted, revealing a weak smile. I left in one of my work cars and arrived at my building quicker than I had expected. Tasha was at the door with a large cup of coffee in her left hand and a couple of files in her right. Our normal morning schedule. I needed the coffee to start the day, especially since I preferred leaving the house to work without having breakfast. “Good morning Mr. Alaric, how was the long break?” She asked with a hint of a tease. I took the cup of coffee from her without a word and walked straight to the elevator. She scurried behind me, desperate to score some gist about my mystery woman. “I heard you went to meet the council of chiefs. Things must be pretty serious, Mr. Alaric”. “Tasha?”. “Yes, Mr. Alaric?”. “Drop it. You will meet her after she's met with the council of chiefs, just like everyone else” I told her with a grin. I heard a slight grumble from her. “I need the reports from the past meetings from my secretary before I start the day” I added, stepping out of the elevator. “Noted. I also took some notes. Should I add those as well?” She offered. “Yes, bring everything” I answered, easing into my chair. I watched her scurry out of the office and I looked around. I missed being in my office environment and forgetting I was Alpha for the entire day. My phone rang suddenly and I cursed myself for not putting it on work mode. But what if it was Malia? I picked it up from the table and scanned the screen. My father? I answered immediately. “Alaric, what is the meaning of this nonsense? I come to your house garden to host my monthly meetings with my friends and who do I meet frolicking around? The harlot! Is this the special woman in your life?!”. My heart sank. I had completely forgotten. Ever since stepping down as Alpha, I begged my father to live in the same residence as me, but he was adamant and eventually we had settled for him to use my garden for his monthly meetings with his friends. Today was one of his meeting days. “Father, listen…”. “So you fell in love with the harlot and have been harboring her here ever since?! I need a damn explanation!” He cut in, demanding. “It's not the harlot” I answered quietly “Don’t lie to me, son! Except the harlot had a twin sister!”. “It's her daughter”. My father went silent on the other end. I understood. I cut the call and raced out of the office, past a confused Tasha in the hallways and straight down the elevator and finally arrived at my parked car. I jumped in immediately. “Drive! To the house now!” I ordered the driver, almost short of breath. He sped off as commanded. I didn't know what the outcome of this revelation would mean, but it was not part of my recent plans and it was certainly not good.
