Chapter 7

1050 Words
The next day, Elissa brought some extra clothes. She was ready just in case Alejandro would deploy her on the field. She knew how the sun was high, and the weather was so hot. She just wanted to make sure that after working on the farm, she could change her clothes to avoid being smelly. She was sitting in her chair waiting for Alejandro, but when the man came he was back again in his usual self. Cold yet playful. “Are you ready?” Alejandro asked her. Elissa smiled widely. She was very ready. If this was one of his games, she would not let the man win. She will show him how tough she is. She would do anything, she would stand strong for Katarina. His childish games won’t work on her. Nothing could make her quit. Those were all the things that were going inside her head. Alejandro was puzzled upon seeing Elissa smiling at him widely. He expected the woman to complain, to be hysterical. In contrast, the woman seemed to be ready and fine to go under the sun. No words of complaint came out of her mouth. He smirked. Let’s see how long you can smile. Alejandro was now challenged. He wanted to see how long Elissa could act so tough. He wanted to see the woman beg for his mercy. He wanted the woman to beg him to take her back. But the moment Elissa did that, he would make sure to dump her with no mercy. That was what he told Santina, to shut his little sister up. Santina was so mad and wanted to go home right away. She wanted to fire Elissa right away, luckily Alejandro made an excuse. An excuse was that he was taking his revenge, and he wanted to get even with Elissa. That calmed Santina down, and let Alejandro do what he wanted to do. But Santina gave him three months. After that, if Elissa was still working for him, she would come back. And when that happens, she’ll make sure that she will have no mercy towards the woman. “Bring paper and pen,” Alejandro ordered Elissa. Before standing up, Elissa got some papers and a pen. After getting what she needed, she followed Alejandro, who was now walking towards the door. The office building was walking distance to the farm. But the farm was huge. It was almost a whole village. The whole place is green. The trees are everywhere, there’s a wide rice field that was impossible to get to the other side in a day. “What am I supposed to do with this pen and paper?” Elissa asked when they got near to the field. The sun was high, and her cup was just enough to cover her face. She should have brought an umbrella, Elissa thought. But it was too late, they were already on the field. There was no way she could come back to the office just to get an umbrella. “You will interview the farmers, get their names and other basic information. Also, you have to ask them how long they have been working here,” Alejandro explained to her. She nodded. That was an easy task, all she had to do was to talk to the farmers working on this farm. That’s so simple, but what was his purpose? Elissa thought. Alejandro seemed to notice the big question mark on Elissa’s top of her head. “I wanted to know those who have been working here for a long time. I simply wanted to reward them,” Alejandro said, answering the question on Elissa’s mind. Elissa was surprised that the man guessed what she was thinking. Just like before, Alejandro knew what was going on in her head without asking her. She felt something weird after that. A sense of being still familiar with each other. Despite the hate and the pain inside, they still knew each other. “Alright,” Elissa said. She worked hard all day, but one day was not enough for her to talk to all the farmers. There were so many, but she enjoyed talking to them. On the first day of her interviewing the farmers, she almost passed out. She thought that she was ready for this task that Alejandro had assigned her, but she was kinda stupid. First, she forgot her umbrella, then when she felt her throat dry, she remembered that she also had forgotten to bring water with her. “Are you thirsty?” Juan asked. Juan was the youngest farmer she had met so far. He was just twenty-years old. He was a hardworking one, and he had been working on the farm for the past two years. “A bit,” she answered shyly. A bit? That was a lie. She was very thirsty! Her throat was so dry that she couldn’t speak well. Juan went to a small hat nearby. He got something before he returned to where Elissa was standing. When Elissa glanced at the young farmer, he was holding a tumbler. That was obviously his water, but it looked like he was going to share it with her. He was so kind to think of doing that. He was so kind to offer water to someone he just met today. That touched Elissa’s heart. “Here, I hope it can somehow relieve your thirst,” Juan said in a very polite way. He extended his hand to give her the tumbler containing water. Elissa smiled, this young man was very kind and it touched her heart. She just hoped that someday he could be successful, so he could help a lot of people. Elissa could see how much a giver Juan was. She was about to accept the water when someone from behind spoke. “Flirting is not allowed during working hours,” the voice was so cold that she almost shivered. Elissa looked behind her. There was the man who made her interview the farmer despite the hot temperature of the day. “What?” She couldn’t help but to ask. She couldn’t understand what the man was saying. Flirting? Who on earth in the right state of mind will flirt under the burning heat of the sun?
