Chapter 8

“Get back to work,” Alejandro coldly said to Juan. Juan was puzzled about what was going on. The last thing he knew was, he was just offering Elissa his water. And now his boss was already in front of him. He looked mad for unknown reasons. They knew Alejandro as a kind and funny person, but the Alejandro in front of him right now was very different. He looked so mad and irritated. Instead of asking what was wrong, Juan just left. He did not want to anger Alejandro more, he loved and needed his job, so he didn’t want to get fired. “What’s wrong with you?” Elissa asked Alejandro after Juan had left them alone. Elissa didn’t get why Alejandro was acting grumpy. She was doing what he asked her to do, and yet he looked unsatisfied. She was enduring the heat of the sun, and yet he was acting like that? The man was obviously taking her job personally. All she wanted to do was to earn a lot, but here she is dealing with Alejandro’s mood swings. “I told you to get their information, and not to flirt with them,” Alejandro answered her. Was he accusing her of flirting with Juan? Elissa couldn’t believe what kind of brain Alejandro had. Does he really think she could flirt with someone she just met? She was just doing her job well, despite the hot weather. She shook her head in disbelief. This man was hopeless. He was an as*hole. My goodness, how could I fall in love with this man before? She thought. “I am not flirting with him,” she calmly said. Alejandro looked straight into her eyes. His eyes were telling her that he didn’t believe what she had just said. That his eyes were witness that she was flirting with Juan. Elissa sighed. “The young man was just kind enough to offer me his water,” she started. She didn’t know, but she just started explaining to this man in front of her. There was nothing she had to prove to him, but here she is trying to clear her name. “I was so thirsty, and I forgot to bring water with me. Juan was just being kind,” she added. Alejandro rolled his eyes. “And you knew his name, huh?” Her eyes widened. Of course, she knew his name! “You asked me to interview them!” Elissa reminded him. “Oh…” Alejandro seemed to remember. Elissa sighed again. Her throat was hurting now because of dryness. And here she was dealing with the unreasonable mind of her boss. “Here,” Alejandro extended his arm holding a bottle of mineral water. He was looking away while waiting for Elissa to accept the water he was giving her. Elissa was surprised to see the bottle of water. She didn’t notice that earlier because of their conversation. She accepted the water and drank it right away. The water soothes her dry throat. It feels so good! It felt like she hadn’t drank water for a decade, and magically the water tasted sweet for her. “Thank you so much!” Elissa said after drinking all the water in the bottle. She almost forgot how badly Alejandro treated her a while ago. “Y-You’re welcome,” Alejandro said and turned his back on her. Alejandro left without saying anything to her. She just shrugged her shoulders, and got back to what she was doing. She went back on talking to the farmers. Asking them simple questions. After a week of doing interviews, Elissa finally finished all the farmers on the farm. She compiled all the data and encoded it. After doing all of that, she went to Alejandro to inform him that she was already done. “I’m done collecting the basic information of the farmers,” Elissa said. Alejandro was busy reading a document when she came to him. He lifted his head and glanced at her for a few seconds. “Alright, give all the information to Trixie,” Alejandro told her. She nodded. Even though the man wasn’t looking at her. Trixie was one of the farm office staff. “Tell her to start planning for the anniversary celebration,” Alejandro added. After that, Elissa went to Trixie. Alejandro also wanted her to monitor the preparation of all the staff. “Good morning, Trixie,” she greeted Trixie first. The woman was doing something on her computer, but stopped for a moment when she heard her. Trixie looked at her and smiled. “Good morning, Elissa. How can I help you?” Trixie asked her politely. The woman looked kind. Trixie was a fine woman too. She looked innocent and very kind. She was very easy to approach and very accommodating. Looking at her, she was an easy target for the playboy type of man. But luckily, Alejandro didn’t include her as her toy. Elissa smiled at Trixie before answering her. “Sir Alejandro wants you to start planning for the upcoming farm anniversary,” Elissa said. “Oh! Right, the anniversary is approaching.” It seemed that Trixie had forgotten about the anniversary, and was now reminded of that coming event. Yearly, Trixie was the one who was the head of preparing for the celebration. “I will monitor the preparation, so please give me an update all the time,” Elissa said, smiling. Trixie nodded at her while smiling. “Sure, sure,” she said while nodding. Elissa was about to go back to Alejandro’s office where her table was located when she remembered something. She almost forgot the thing that she worked hard for the whole week. “I almost forgot, how should I give you the information about the farmers?” Elissa asked Trixie. “What?” Trixie asked. Trixie looked puzzled. She did not understand what Elissa was talking about. Information about farmers? Why would Elissa give her that? “The basic information of all the farmers here. Should I send it to you via email, or do you want me to print it for you?” Elissa asked her again. Trixie’s forehead creased. Why would Elissa do that for her? “No need, I have all that information here on my computer,” Trixie said. Elissa’s eyes widened. “What?” Then why did Alejandro ask her to talk to all the farmers in the farm? Why does she have to interview each of them if they already have all the information they need? “We have information about them, Elissa. Yearly they submit all their info to update their data,” Trixie explained to her. She just nodded weakly at Trixie. How stupid of her not to think that the company, of course, had all that basic information she gathered. How dumb she was, not noticing that Alejandro just wanted her to suffer. After realizing what Alejandro had done, she wanted to cry. She wasted her whole week doing something that was worth nothing. Frustrated, Elissa marched angrily towards Alejandro’s office. “You bastard!”
