Chapter 6

“Hello?” I heard Angela’s voice, it sounded like she had just woken up. I didn’t realize it was already 11 pm. I want to feel bad, but she has woken me up so many times with her love problems. She owes me this much and I can’t keep it all in anymore.

“Hey Angela, I am sorry it is so late, but I can’t keep this to myself until tomorrow when I see you.” This really couldn’t wait. I was in such turmoil about what he had said to me.

“No girl, you are fine. Tell me all about it.” So, I told her all about what he had said to me and how I was super suspicious of the way he was talking about the possibility of us meeting. It is not like it has deterred me from wanting to get to know him more or to even meet him, it is just that I am cautious of the whole situation.

“Let me get this straight, you are worried about him hiding something from you?”

“Well, yeah?” The way she said it is starting to make me doubt myself.

“Why?”

“What do you mean why?”

“Have you told him all your deepest, darkest secrets and your insecurities?”

“No, I guess I haven’t.”

“Then why are you tripping out about it?” I hadn’t thought about that. We haven’t even mentioned anything about the way we feel about our bodies and ourselves. I have danced around the subject, and I guess he has too. He hasn’t come right out with it but there is something he is hiding from me. I haven’t been completely forward with my body and the things that I struggle with.

“I guess I didn’t think about it like that.”

“Just keep an open mind Clarissa, he sounds like he is genuinely interested in you. He isn’t a creep who is just looking for a hookup, and he is handsome to boot. Why are you trying to ruin this for yourself like you always do? I don’t know why you have it in your mind that you are not good enough for someone. You are a wonderful, kindhearted, beautiful person inside and out. Be selfish, meet the man and go from there.”

“Your right, I am looking too much into this. Thanks for listening to me ramble. I will let you go. Goodnight, thank you again.”

“Anytime, what are friends for? Goodnight, I will see you at work tomorrow.”

I am so lucky that I have a friend like Angela in my life. I don’t know what I would do without her. If I hadn’t called her, I would have found another excuse for myself to not meet up with Derek and let a good man go. No matter what it is that he has wrong with himself, I will accept it. I am nowhere near perfect, and neither is anybody else. If we have the chemistry like we have had in person, then we can figure it out together.

I turned on the TV to the news so that I could fall asleep to it. I had to stop thinking about my relationship problems so that I could get some sleep. The news was covering a movie that was being shot in Atlanta. Maybe that is a movie that Derek is in! That would explain why he was here. They showed a shot of the famous actor, Derek Hyland. I guess he was the main actor in this movie. He is such a fine-looking man. In the clip he had his hair swooped to the side, with his huge grin and his chiseled chin. The 5oclock shadow he was sporting made me want to drool.

Last year, I remember hearing about his breakup with the famous model Brittany Botana. I was so shocked because they looked so good together. He even left her; I was so surprised because she is drop-dead gorgeous. One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. I can’t imagine he would find anybody else more beautiful than her. She is also such a charitable woman; they did a lot of events to raise money for the make a wish foundation. Now he has been named the most eligible bachelor of the year.

I am going to have to ask Derek if he works with him. I would hate to ask but I would die if I could get his autograph. I would cherish it forever. It is kind of a stretch though; I am sure Derek Hyland is super busy with his career and way too busy to be signing his autograph to his coworker’s new girlfriend. I don’t even know if my Derek works with him. Oh man, it feels nice to say my Derek.

I pulled out another picture of him and swooned. I completely forgot to ask him for his last name too. I can’t even find more pictures of him on social media. I need to see if he has any old pictures of a former love interest. Just so I can see what he was interested in in the past and possibly see who the competition is. I kind of hope he doesn’t have an ex-girlfriend or ex-wife so that I don’t have to compare and see how much better they are than me.

Even though it is already midnight, I really want to message Derek and ask him for his last name. That way, when I wake up, I will know it and be able to look him up.

C- I know you are asleep, but I had just remembered a question. What is your last name? I wanted to look you up on f*******: so I could friend you! I plugged my phone in and locked it in anticipation of going to sleep for the night. I grabbed my phone again to make sure my alarm was set when I felt it vibrate and heard it ping.

D- I was just about to fall asleep thinking of you! Unfortunately, I don’t have a social media presence. I am afraid that I never got to jump on that boat with everyone else when it became popular, and I am too much of an old man to want to start now.

C- Yeah, I guess you are an old man.

D- Don’t be mean now!

C- LOL, your words, not mine!

D- Oh hush, honestly it makes you look worse than me. It is cool if an old guy is dating a younger woman. It is not so cool for a woman to date an older man.

C- Hahaha, I forgot how to laugh.

D- Speaking of old, are you sure you are only 23? With lame combat like that, you must be in your 40s or 50s!

C- Now I am the one that needs to tell you to hush! You know, I was watching the news just now, and I saw that Derek Hyland is here in Atlanta making a new movie. Is that the project you are working on right now?

D- As a matter of fact, it is.

C- Really!? Oh my gosh, so you know Derek Hyland.

D- Yes and he is a good friend of mine.

C- I hate to ask this, but is there any way I could get his autograph? I am a huge fan of his and it would mean the world to me. If you, can’t I understand, Derek Hyland must be super busy all the time and I can imagine it would be annoying, if not inappropriate, to ask for his autograph for your friends or family.

D- You know what, I can do you one better. I will let you meet him, and you can ask him yourself. If you can, that is.

C- You would do that for me. Really?

D- Of course, I would, especially if you are as big a fan as you let on to be.

C- Trust me, I am probably one of his biggest fans. I have been watching him since we were both kids, when he was on that one TV show, you know, his first performance. Not to be weird, but he was my celebrity crush all through middle school and high school. Please don’t breathe a word to him. That would be very embarrassing.

D- Now I feel like I should be jealous.

C- What!? Jealous of what exactly, I was a kid. He wouldn’t want anything to do with me though, trust me on that! Besides, why would I want him if I had you?

D- Hahaha I’m sure if he took a liking to you, you would leave me for him.

C- First, again, he would want nothing to do with me. You know who his ex is right? THE Brittany Botana, the most beautiful woman on earth! Even if he did want me in some weird alternate universe, I would never. I don’t care about all that, when I love someone, I love fiercely, and I am the most loyal person to my partner. Trust me, when I find the right man, I am never letting him go. You better keep that in mind if you want to be with me now! You have been warned!

D- I believe you, how can I not when you say it with such conviction? I will message you in the morning, but I really must go. Thank you for thinking of me and messaging me again. You can always message me, anytime.

C- Thank you, Derek, I love knowing you are just a message or phone call away. Good night, I will message you as soon as I wake up.

D- Okay Clarissa, have a wonderful night.
