Chapter 1: Whispers in the night
I padded through the forest, my nine tails swishing behind me like a banner. The moon was full, casting an ethereal glow over the trees, and I felt alive. My senses were heightened, and I could smell the magic in the air. The scent of damp earth and decaying leaves filled my nostrils, and I breathed deeply, feeling the forest's energy coursing through me.
As a kitsune, I was attuned to the whispers of the forest. The ancient trees whispered secrets to me on the wind, and I listened. I knew the hidden paths, the secret glades, and the ancient rituals that only the trees knew. The forest was my home, and I was its guardian.
I'd been walking for hours, my paws padding softly on the forest floor. The trees grew taller and closer together here, casting long shadows that stretched and twisted in the moonlight. I navigated the path easily, my senses guiding me through the darkness.
I was on a mission, though. I'd received a message from a trusted source, a whisper on the wind that spoke of a powerful artifact hidden deep within the Lupine royal pack. The pack was ruled by the Alpha King, Kael, a man rumored to be as fierce as a wolf and as unyielding as stone. I'd heard stories about Kael, of course. Who hadn't? But I wasn't interested in the Alpha King. I was after the artifact, a relic that granted me immense power and would help me fulfill an ancient promise.
As I walked, the trees grew taller, and the path grew narrower. I could feel the magic in the air growing stronger, a thrumming energy that called to me. I followed the sensation, my senses guiding me through the darkness.
The forest was alive with sounds, the hooting of owls, the chirping of crickets, and the distant howl of a wolf. I smiled to myself, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. I loved the night, the way the world seemed alive under darkness.
Suddenly, I stopped. A presence lingered just out of sight, watching me. I sniffed the air, trying to pinpoint the source,
" Fredrick I know you are there. You can come out now."
" How you do that is amazing to me"
"Do what? And why are you following me ?"
" I wanted to help".
" I am on Fredrick. cool down"
" Lyra this is dangerous. I am a rogue werewolf and I am telling you that going to the Lupine royal pack is a death sentence"
" I have to get the job done, Fred. By the way, it is a win-win. I get the artifact and I also get paid"
"You sound more like a thief every day"
"Well that is what we are and we get paid well for it "
" Camora is bad news. Her paying 20 million dollars to get this Gem speaks volumes Ly"
" Fred we do the job and we get paid. She has sent part payment already"
"Just don't regret this later"
" I won't "...
Something or someone is out there, but before I could get a name on it, it was gone.
"What"
"For a thief, you have bad senses, Fred"
"Well I have you here for senses"
"Seriously"
Shrugging, we continued on our way. We aren't here to make friends.
The trees parted, and I stepped into a clearing. In the center stood an ancient oak, its branches twisted and gnarled with age. The artifact's energy pulsed from within, calling to me. I could feel its power, a thrumming energy that seemed to match the beat of my own heart.
For a gem so important, these wolves aren't guiding it. Come to think of it, the pack borders have no patrol team on duty ....mmmm... well, none of my business..
" Fredrick isn't this off? "
"The no people guiding the pack border line and this scared tree?".
" yeah"
"You are forgetting that they believe that because the Royal house is descendants of the moon goddess they become too overconfident"
"Then they are stupid"
I approached the tree, tail twitching with excitement. This was it. This was what I'd been searching for. I reached out a hand, and as my fingers touched the bark, the energy surged. Visions flooded my mind, images of the past and present, of magic and power. I saw the Lupine royal pack, its people strong and proud. I saw Kael, the Alpha King, his eyes flashing with determination.
But I saw something else, too. A darkness, a threat that loomed over the empire like a shadow. I saw a woman, but her face wasn't clear. I didn't know what it was, but I knew I had to be careful. The visions faded, and I stood there, my hand still touching the tree. I felt changed, like I'd been given a glimpse of something much larger than myself.
Suddenly, I felt a strong dark energy entering me with full force, it was both dark and good energy....
" Ly...LY LY LY!!!!"
All I saw before I blacked out was Fred screaming in horror.
" Ly LY LY...!!!!"
The voice felt so far away.
" Lyra !!!!! "
" uuhggg.... Fred, you are screaming. Shut the f**k up"
" Jesus.... Ly, you scared .....huhhhh LY....
"What....
" you eyes ....shit they are two colors....
"What?"
"Where are we ?"
" I just said your eyes have two different colors... and not just that you fainted on me and I had to carry your heavy ass here and all you are asking me is where are we ?"
" f**k the gem....shit"
" I don't know how to say this, but they kinda swallowed the gem ..."
" WHAT!!!!????"
" YOU SWALLOWED THR GEM AND FAINTED... YOU BURNT MY SKIN TOO WHILE I WAS CARRYING YOUR HEAVY ASS OUT OF THE PACK".
' I am going to pretend I didn't hear all the s**t you just said because I can't and I won't refund Camora's dollar bills..we clear? Let's just go home"
As I stood up, the forest seemed to grow quieter, as if it too was waiting to see what would happen next. I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of my failed mission settling onto my shoulders. I had a feeling that this was just the beginning of a much larger journey....
" s**t"
