I can’t tell anymore what I want or don’t want. Jace and Carson are both so incredible. I mean… Carson is this sweet, smart, loving, attractive man. He has been my best friend for years. He has been there for me through everything: birthdays, classes, exams, and more. But Jace makes me feel special. When I’m with him, he lets his guard down and shows me a side of him that no one gets to experience since he’s an Alpha. I don’t know if I can decide between them. It seems impossible.
I lay on my couch at home and fall asleep. I am awakened by clanking sounds in the kitchen. Mom’s home! I finally learned what my mom actually does for a living a few weeks ago when I learned I was a wolf. She is actually a Pack liaison who works with different packs across the world. She works to bring peace where she can. She also helps as a refugee specialist helping Rogue, homeless, and displaced wolves find new packs by setting up jobs, names, and credentials and doing whatever she can for them. She was a Luna, the Alpha’s wife. She learned a lot about the politics of Wolf Packs and when my father died, she put it to work to take care of all those who she could. She has helped in Hungary, Australia, England, Spain, Germany, India, and more.
She is exactly who I need to hear from right now. I really need some good advice right now. I rush into the kitchen and see her. Her gorgeous, long, curly, blonde hair is wrapped into a messy bun. I give her a gigantic hug. “Samuel.” She exclaims. What has come over you?
“Why is everything so complicated? Why is love so complicated?”
“Oh, honey. That is very complicated. I am making dinner. After we eat, I will play the counselor. Does that work?”
“Yeah.” I hug her again, squeezing as tight as I can.
“Careful. Careful. I don’t heal as you all do.”
We finish the food. I want to ask her everything, but I know she is right, and I don’t want to disturb our dinner. I scarf down my food. It is so good! I haven’t eaten her food in so long. She’s been gone for weeks. She takes her sweet time. I almost think that she is waiting or taking her time to antagonize me more. She knows how much I need to talk to her with the occasional quick grin and smiles as she eats.
She finally finishes her food. “How about some-“ I snatch out plates away from the table and into the kitchen. I grab a piece of chocolate cake on a plate and bring it into the living room. “desert.”
She joins me in the living room and sits in the recliner. I walk up to her and hand her the cake “Alright kiddo. What seems to be the problem?”
“I am stuck between two guys. They are both absolutely incredible, and they both have their own pros and cons. I don’t know which of them to choose from! I don’t know what to do. Mom, I need advice.” She looks at me confused. “I don’t know if I should choose Jace or Carson.” She changes her facial reaction to shock.
“Wait. Like Jace? Like Jace, Jace? Isn’t Jace the Alpha and Carson’s ex?”
“Yes. But-” Now, I’m confused. How did she know that Carson and Jace dated when I didn’t know until recently?
“Well, which one of them do you like?” I sigh.
“I like both of them.”
“Ok, but have you…” insinuating certain things with her tone.
“Um…” I avert my gaze, embarrassed at everything I have done. “yeah. Both of them.”
“Samuel!
“I didn’t plan for either of them. They both just kind of happened.”
Mom sings, “Tell me more! Tell me more! Like does he have a car?” I sit up and throw a couch cushion at her. “Well I’m sorry, but you have never been interested in someone like this. You’ve never had a crush on anyone before. Samuel. You are glowing. You look so happy right now despite you being so divided.”
Is she mocking me? Is she making fun of me? What the heck is wrong with her? I get up to go to bed. She was useless. “Stop. Wait. I’m sorry.” She says to me. “I’ll help.” I look at her. Her eyes glimmer with sincerity even though she has a mischievous smile on her face. I decide to sit back down. “How can I help?”
“When you met Dad, how did you know he was the one?” She laughs at the question. I get ready to get up again. My face is scornful.
“Samuel, sit down and stop being a drama queen.” Now I just plain old frown at her. “I was only laughing cause you asked a very complicated question. There’s a lot you need to understand and a lot that I cannot help you with.” I look at her for a response. “I am a human. We go through natural desire and feelings. We believe in destiny. We believe there is someone we are destined to be with, but we also have the option to act against it. With wolves, you have a Mate.” I lay back on the couch. “One day, your wolf is going to call out to you and tell you that someone is your mate. Their smell will entice you and corrupt all your senses and desires until you are complete with them. They become you. They are you. There is nothing more important to them than you. Have you felt that yet?”
“No…”
Mom gets up and walks over next to me. She wraps her arm around me. “You will find him one day. Your wolf starts to really search for your mate when you are 18. I don’t know if it will take longer because of the witch’s charm. Traditionally, the mating bond activates in a moment of extreme emotion. Just hold out until then. It will be ok. Who knows? He might not be Jace or Carson.”
“Oh, Goddess. Please tell me there isn’t going to be another guy. I just want to be done with this. It’s all so complicated.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t help you more.”
“It’s gonna be ok, Samuel.” I nod. I kiss her on the cheek and head upstairs. When I am halfway up, she says, “Which did you enjoy more?” She smiles maliciously at me.
“I’m not talking to you about that!” I storm upstairs.
