The next morning, I woke up. I reach over to feel Jace’s fantastic body, but he isn’t there. Memories from the night before flow past my visions. Suddenly, my head screams louder than a banshee. I cover my head with the covers. “Ugggghh!” I’m confused. My heart is still beating faster from last night, but my head feels like it has been run over from a freight train. Why do I feel so good in my heart, but my head hurts so much.
Using all the strength I have, I sit up and look, fighting through the blinding sunlight as it pierces my sight. I see him working on his laptop with a cup of coffee. He looks so happy and innocent, but I know he is still an Alpha from a strong pack. The light somehow grows even brighter form the sun moving into the tiny hole window, feeling like daggers in my eyes. I loudly whine at the harshness of the light. Then, I cover me back up with the covers.
“Good morning,” he says. I hear his steps against the floor as he walks over to me. He tries to pull back the covers, but I hold them close to me. He chuckles. I slightly lift my head out from under the covers and pout. Jace’s massive figure blocks the light, so I can actually look at him. “This is a moonlighting hangover. We get so much power from the event that we are hungover the next morning. You get used to it after a few times. It will disappear shortly.” He bends down to me and gives me a kiss. I blush a little bit. “Do you want some coffee?”
When he shifts his body, I groan again since the light he was blocking now shines through. I nod my head again, saying “Ugh…” responding yes. I look at the clock and jump out of bed. “I missed school!” As I jump out, the world spins, and I can’t retain my balance.
“Relax!” He gets closer to me. His hands firmly grab onto my hips, steadying me. His hands on my bare skin make me perk up. “I already called in sick for you and said, you would try to come in later in the school day. Go get ready for school. I will make you some coffee and some eggs and bacon. After you eat, I’ll drop you off at school. I need to go work on some Alpha projects at the Pack House.” I nod. Then, I turn in the other direction, looking around for a bathroom. He walks up behind me and kisses my head. “The shower is back there beyond the wall. It’s a shame though. I like smelling our scents be so strong from when they mixed together last night”. I want to stay in his arms forever, but I need to get ready for school. I have already ruined my perfect attendance. Don’t get me wrong. It was definitely worth it, but I don’t want to make it such a habit.
I finish getting ready for school. Then, we get in the car. He drives with one hand on the wheel, and one hand on my thigh. I tried to stop him, but he refused to let his hand lay anywhere else. He pulls into the school parking lot, much to my dismay. I go to open my door, but he locks it. I turn to him to see him walking around the car to open the door for me. He opens the door and gives me a hand to help me get out of the car. “Thanks for last night.” He smiles at me. I blush and smile back. He leans in for a kiss, but I panic and pull back away from him. He snarls. His eyes change to the jade green, but he shakes and pulls back. “Sorry,” he says, looking upset for making me uncomfortable.
I walk into the building, but the lights are so bright. I hiss like a vampire in sunlight and cover my eyes. I wish someone would’ve told me that the moonlighting would result in such a hangover. I would’ve brought sunglasses or something to help me. I get to my locker and see Carson. “Samuel!” he yells.
“Ahh!” I respond falling into my locker.
“Where have you been? What happened to you last night. You never miss class, but you missed three classes. You never miss class.”
“Shhhhh,” I said, “please no talking until next month… or just never again.”
“Here. Take these.” He handed me an eyedropper. “They are moonlight essence drops.” I feel a sigh of relief as the hangover disappears. I finally feel like myself again. He sniffs the air around me, getting closer and closer. Carson’s eyes widen. “You slept with-“
“Ssssshhh!” I pull closer to Carson, whisper-screaming, “Exnay! On the lpha-ay!” He looks shocked!
“Oh, my Goddess! How could you?”
“I don’t know. It just happened.”
“It doesn’t just happen. You slept with the Alpha of your pack.”
“Well, it does. cause it did. Wait, a second! Didn’t you sleep with him!?” He shushed me back.
