“Roll for initiative!” Dillon shouted. The group of friends sitting around the wooden round table all grabbed their dice and rolled them. Boos and cheers came from them after the dice stopped rolling. “Damn! I got an eight!” Shelby sighed in frustration, slamming her fist on the table. “I got a fifteen! Get f****d!” Bre laughed at Shelby, making her roll her eyes. “I got a sixteen.” Kyler smirked at Bre, making Bre immediately glare at him and flip him the bird. Everyone’s attention went to Dave since they hadn’t heard him say what he rolled. They all watched him with intent as he gave a small smirk. “I got a twenty.” Dave said, nonchalantly. “NOOO!!” Bre and Shelby yelled in unison. Kyler sighed, looking at Dave and shaking his head. Dave gave him a shrug. The group turned their attention back to Dillon to continue with the game. Dillon glanced at all of them to make sure they were all done being rowdy before he went back to the game. “Bre, Kyler and Dave were all able to dodge the falling ceiling of the cave; Shelby, however, was not so fortunate. A big piece of the caves ceiling landed on top of her, pinning her down and breaking a couple of ribs and dislocated her left shoulder... what will you all do?” Dillon asked them. “Fffffuuuuu-“ Shelby started shouting but Dave interrupted her. “Can I attempt to pull her out?” Dave asked. “You can certainly try.” Dillon replied. “Hm, I think she should just stay there. Better get nice and cozy!” Bre told Shelby, cackling. Shelby gave her a side eye glare. “And here I thought you cared about me...” Shelby said, sliding a finger down her face like it was a tear drop. “Huh. Where’d you get that idea from?” Bre asked, straight faced as she and Shelby made intense eye contact until Bre broke it by laughing. “You bitch.” Shelby laughed at her. “Would anyone like to assist him?” Dillon asked, ignoring Bre and Shelby’s conversation. “I will.” Kyler said, adjusting in his seat. Dave rolled his dice and everyone watched with intent as the dice rolled in slow motion until it finally landed on a 19. “Nineteen.” Dave said. Everyone turned to Dillon and Shelby was chewing on her bottom lip, eagerly. “With a mighty grip, you and Kyler were able to successfully pull her out from underneath it without harming her further.” Dillon said. “Alright! Hurry your asses up and let’s gooo! Shelby, I’m carrying you the rest of the way. I’m an Orc Barbarian, it’ll be no problem carrying your scrawny little Wood Elf.” Bre grinned at Shelby, raising her eyebrows. Dave snickered at her remark while Kyler was full on laughing. “Damn!” Kyler said, still laughing. “Oh, please. How many times have I saved your ass?” Shelby said, crossing her arms while Bre stuck her tongue out at her. “The cave is still falling.” Dillon said. “Oh s**t!” Bre said, her eyes widening as she returned back to the game. They were all able to get out of the falling cave in one piece but by the time they got out, basically the entire mountain they were exploring caves in was collapsed behind them. “Good thing we got out of there in time. I almost wanted to just leave Shelby behind because she was slowing down the group.” Dave said, sarcastically. “What the- you were the one who saved me!” Shelby laughed. “Yeah and doing that almost killed all of us.” He chuckled. “He’s not wrong.” Bre said, getting a look from Shelby which said ‘I’ll kill you’ but Bre just cackled at her. Kyler rubbed Shelby’s back and kissed her cheek. “It’s okay.” He smiled at her. “Eeewww. Get that s**t outta here. Ain’t nobody wanna see that warm and cuddly shit.” Bre said, making Kyler and Shelby laugh. “Then leave.” Shelby said and Bre c****d an eyebrow at her. “You wanna fight? I’ll fight.” Bre said, waving her hands around like she was karate chopping the air, Shelby immediately jumped in and did the same thing. “You guys are so weird.” Kyler said. “Yeah? What of it?” Bre asked and Kyler shook his head. “What of it.” Dave said, staring at Bre blankly. “Dave, you’re not that old so why do you act like it.” Bre said, staring directly into his eyes. “I’m thirty.” Dave said. “And?” Bre asked, raising her eyebrows. He shrugged with a small smile playing on his lips. “Alright, I think we should end the game here for tonight.” Dillon said and everyone nodded. “Sounds good. It’s like three in the morning so it’s probably time for all of us to go home.” Shelby said. “Yeah, get out of my house. Why are you people even here?” Dave asked, sarcastically. Shelby rolled her eyes at him. “Because you know you secretly love us somewhere deep dowm in that cold, black heart.” Shelby said, fluttering her eyelashes at him. He chuckled at her. “I suppose somewhere in there, just maybe.” He replied. Bre and Dillon got up from their chairs and said their goodbyes, as did Kyler who got the keys and went out to start the car. Shelby was saying goodbye to all of his cats and Dave before she left. “You sure you’re doing okay?” Shelby asked him, concern in her voice. She knew he felt off all night. “I’m okay.” He nodded to her. She walked up to him and gave him a tight hug which he returned. “Promise?” She asked. “I promise.” He replied.
