A MAID OF TRUE HONOUR

It was night already and everywhere seemed to be empty, everyone had retired to bed . The Queen mother is usually the first to go to bed and the first to wake up but unlike her today she is still awake and you must be asking how I Know. Yes that's because I have lived In the palace for the past 21 years, so I know and have mastered all movements made in the palace and when the queen mother's sleeps all the lights will be put off but today seems different it was on instead, I was done with my work, it is 12:30 am sharp, I am always the last to sleep and last to wake but I couldn't go to bed without finding out what could be keeping Queen Rachel awake. Queen Rachel is a very beautiful woman and her husband Kind Donald who was more like a father to me died of food poisoning and up till date no one knows who conspired his death. Before his death He an his wife had a beautiful daughter, Princess Maya. princess Maya is the reason for the present dramas in the palace but I still love her because I have vowed to be loyal to her and always seek her happiness as her head maid. I took few steps towards her room on getting there I knocked and waited for a response but no voice could be heard so I had to go in but was stopped by a cold steel positioned close to my neck by the queen herself , it felt like I was about to vacate my body. what could possible be worrying the queen, was she feeling threatened and if yes why will that be, could it be king's Nicholas words . Queen Rachel's POV How dare that bastard question my upbringing after the demise of my husband. I have single handedly raised my daughter even if I know that she has few flaws how could he compare her to a common maid what, wait a second who could still be awake by this unholy hours of the night. I stood behind the door with my sword not like I could use it well but I believe it to be a means of guidance. As I patiently awaited who ever it was that had the Gods to come close to my door in the absence of my guards how dare he underestimate my power. After few knocks, the door finally opened and i put my sword to action but I stopped realizing that it was no one asides the pathetic maid Elena whom princess Maya choose as her head maid. what could have brought this silly rag here. " Elena what are you doing here and what gave you rights to enter my chambers? with the sword still on her neck I knew she had no nerve to withstand such torture, in no time she will blunt out every nonsense in her mouth, to my greatest surprise all I heard was, " I am sorry my queen , I saw your room lights on and wondered what you could be doing awake by this time... it's so unlike you to be awake by this time". In deed you are a fool, who would go to sleep without his or her personal guards there to guard him. pls get out of my room I want to be left alone with that I saw her scurry out of my room like a ? rat. I went to my bed kept my sword under the bed cover and lay at the other end until sleep took me in it's warm embrace. Elena's POV Oh my Goodness thanks to the goddess for protecting me from the vial queen who her character is opposite to her beauty. I could still feel the sharp edge of that sword on my neck only Heavens knows what could be the queens main problem. Just then i realize i was in my quarters, i took off my clothes and stood before the half broken mirror in the corner of my room, I couldn't see my body well. Although I knew deep down that I was becoming a grown woman just that I couldn't see my self. I took the wooden picture frame close to me and aimed it towards the remaining part of the mirror with the sole intention of shattering the remaining one. As expected I destroyed it, then I headed straight to the bathroom, showered and dressed up then laid down and slept off. Meanwhile princess Maya didn't support her mom's plan to marry her of to the prince of the green land valleys, yes the valley was indeed very fertile but she didn't believe in marrying one she didn't love so she planned to go out, if not for anything to clear her mind. As expected she succeeded and escaped from her window. Alas it was morning, what would wake me up this early aside the Hussle and brussel of the palace noise. Wait a second the princess, I hurried to her room with my night dress to be sure she is in her room before her mother finds out of her every day disappearance on getting there she was all dressed, looking lovely suddenly she turned and looked at me this stern look on her face, I knew I was in big trouble. Maya's POV where the hell is this clumsy maid of ? Always sleeping like a dirty, stinky pig. what if my mom caught me, can't she do her work properly . It's like it's high time I appoint a new maid. I hurried to take my bath, yes I am supposed to be accompanied by maids when I want to bath but due to my present situation I can only trust Elena but she is so not fit for such assignment . What will I do if my mom finds out I do most of my chores without the help of a maid. In no time I was done with my bath and I headed to the dressing room , went through my dress no one striked my interest not until I saw the one that was given to me by king Nicholas of the Raining dew kingdom, they are the strongest kingdom within the eastern region and king Nicholas was a good friend of my dad not until he passed away. He then suspected my mom to be his true killer, since then he has always been against her and it happens that my mom in other to form an alliance that can beat king Nicholas she had to meat his brother who she knows is against his elder brother who happened to be King Nicholas. And that brother of his is the King of the Greenland valley King Anthony and his son that proud bastard is whom my mother merged our marriage certificate just to fulfill her selfish desires.... I was so distracted in my own thought that I didn't realize Elena's appearance but she didn't let her clumsy self go unnoticed as she hit my vase, with the anger welled up in me I turned and looked at her, what should I do with you? I asked her, then I turned and sat down as she completed my dressing then she excused her self leaving me in the room . I stood at door facing the kingdom so I get a better view of the busy town while awaiting my clumsy maid. Queen Rachel's POV The morning sun shined directly on my eyes as my maid Nana pat opened the curtains as she did every morning. I stood up and headed straight to the bathroom where i had all my maidens awaiting my presence, on seeing me they helped take my wears off and washed my skin after the bath and lotion applied on my skin , Nana pat pick the red gown given to me by king Anthony as a gift knowing fully well what today had in . Alas I was done with my dressing and ready for the next agenda of the day as I gave my reporter sign to read my duties for the day which only involved welcoming King Anthony and my soon to be son in law . Thinking of my son in law where is my daughter? Nana pat send the guards to get me Princess Maya. I would love her to be with me as I welcome her betrothed. Elena's POV I have been in this place for years yet I don't know what goes on in there mind, argh I know for a fact the princess doesn't love me the only reason she endures me is just because she has a secret with me and because of her vow with her dad. As I was talking to my self I sighted the scattered pieces of mirror on the floor , hmmmn I'll pack that later. I removed my nightie, took out my uniform and entered the the bathroom, put some water in the bucket and had a quick bath. Stormed out of the bathroom all dressed since there isn't a mirror left to look at, immediately i left my room. Meanwhile the guards had reached princess Maya's room and informed her that her mother wants to see her as usual she sends them off telling them she would be right behind them. as they exit her Chambers. King Anthony's POV Son we are going to finalize the merge made by both kingdom to strengthen our bonds and become strong. And we can't do without this marriage so believe me when I tell you this meeting is very important so pls be in you best behavior and if you feel you can't endure her excesses we can get you married again. We are close to the palace. All the best son. Nathan's POV Why do these old people love lying to themselves it's obvious I don't love this girl, so why will they want to use our future as a means to strengthen their bond, when there are lands and farm produce that can be used. watching him smoke that weed and say all these things only make me more angry, i can't be with a girl I don't love except they will be willing to let me court her that's the only way I can agree to this bond. Meanwhile, Princess Maya could be seen pacing around her room the moment the door opened and she saw me the only action that was taken which I couldn't predict was a resounding slap.
