Vanessa's True Nature

1240 Words
Jason stepped forward, “Do you want me to continue?” His voice showed no emotions about what he had done or at the fact a pack memeber was dead. Luna killed one of her pack, and a friend. The shock started to set into me, but the medicine was wearing off. My wolf kept howling to call my mate and I agreed. Reaching through the pack link I mind linked Alpha, my mate. 'Help.' A sense of curiosity in our link, but nothing else. No reply, no searching, no questioning, nothing. Cold flooded my system, my skin tightening from the blood leaving my face. Dread replaced anger. Vanessa laughed. “Did you really call for him?” My eyes snapped towards her. How did she know? Vanessa threw back her head and screamed. Jason took a step back and my eyes grew wide. Vanessa dropped to the ground and grabbed April, clutching her to her chest. “Jason,” Vanessa hissed, her eyes full of tears. “Who did this?” What? I screamed in my head and tried to stand up. Jason turned around and grinned at me before pointing at me. “Luna, she did.” Jason’s voice was full of anger and hurt. Looking between the two, I was in full blown shock. What? I couldn’t get my head around it. Vanessa screamed out again, sobs racking her body as she cried over the friend she killed. “Help.” Vanessa screamed, “Someone, help. April has been killed.” Jason started towards me, anger and triumph in his eyes. He reached for me as I watched Vanessa. Quickly turning on Jason, I punched him in the gut and put a knee into his nose. Jason stumbled backwards, coughing blood as he hunched over. “Don’t you dare touch me again.” I growled at him. Jason glared at me from the ground. Shouts started to come from the direction of the ballroom. “Vanessa” A roar sounded through the woods as the pack came towards us. The roar echoed again, his voice making my heart skip a beat. 'Mate.' Luara howled through the chaos of my mind. Why was he calling her name? My mind swirled with the realization that he still did not know. 'Make him know.' Laura growled. Yes, make him know, I thought and gritted my teeth. I faced the group as they approached running. Alpha Dante, Beta, and other high ranking wolves stopped in their tracks as they came beside Vanessa wailing form. Dante crouched down and touched Vanessa’s shoulder. Everyone else looked from Jason to me and back to Vanessa. My dress was barely hanging on now, and Jason’s pants were still unbuttoned. “My love,” Dante’s voice rang in my ear and I watched as he said this endearment to Vanessa. My wolf growled and I let it out. Rage at this woman was barely contained. Dante glared at me, but froze as he looked me in the eyes. 'Yes,' I mindlinked with him. 'I am your mate.' Smiling at him, I reached my arms out towards him. Vanessa screamed again, causing us to look at her. “She killed April.” Vanessa screamed out again. All gasped and looked at me. I was slammed into the tree behind me as Dante grabbed my neck. He was starting to squeeze, as he looked into my eyes. Blackness stared back at me, different than the eyes of brown that had stared at me before. “You killed a pack member?” Dante growled, his voice slightly unsteady. I could feel the unsteadiness in his hand as he tightened and loosened his grip. “Mate.” I gasped out, the tough of his hand sending waves of electricity through my body. Dante's eyes started to turn brown again as he focused on us more. He leaned in close and smelled me. As his eyes cleared more and I saw his mouth start to say something, Vanessa screamed again. “She killed April, Dante.” I managed to see over Dante’s shoulder and saw Vanessa standing, a hand clutching her neck and the other pointing at us. Dante’s eyes went all black again and he tightened his grip. The faint light of recognition now gone. “What do you want me to do Vanessa?” His voice growled with menace. I shrank into the wood as Luara whimpered at the back of my brain. Vanessa came up to us and placed a hand on his arm. I growled and tried to speak but Dante hit my head against the tree. Laura whimpered at the blow. 'Something is wrong.' She whimpered. 'Our mate hit us again. He wasn’t there for us and now.' I felt her start to slip away and shut herself away. Tears started to form as I saw my mate turn from me and look at Vanessa. “She should suffer for April, but I do not want more bloodshed tonight. Lock her up for now and we can deal with it later.” Vanessa said and gave me a sly smile. Blood drained from my face as Dante looked back at me, but not really seeing me. I screamed in my head at him and tried to say something, but nothing happened. "Very well," Dante growled, letting go of my neck. I dropped like a sack of potatoes, not really believing what was happening. There was a ringing in my head as I looked up at my mate. The one who wad supposed to rescue me. "Take her and lock her up." Dante said, not even looking at me. He picked up Vanessa who started crying again. She winked at me over Dante's shoulder as he carried her away. I reached a hand out to him, not really sure why. My voice faintly calling out to him as they faded into the night. "No, come back." Searing pain erupted in my heart. The r**e, then pain caused by Dante, and now this rejection was too much. I cried internally as the pain in my heart and soul burst. I screamed into the ground, not caring about those around me. “I will take her.” I heard Jason say as I fought to control the pain. Feeling his disgusting presence above me, I turned my pain into rage. Lashing out, I dropped Jason to the ground and punched him squarely in the jaw. He was out cold. Standing up, growling low I stared at those around me. The Beta, Charlie, another man who watched with cold eyes, and a few others stared at me. Charlie stepped forward. “I got this.” He said and came at me. I glared at him as I took his full punch into my hand. Stopping his punch before it hit me, I looked into his shocked face. “How?” he said as I upper cutted into his gut. Doubling over, I elbowed him in the neck, knocking his ass out. Satisfaction coursed through me and Laura howled in my head. “I will not go, not until I confront my mate.” I growled low at those around me. Pain seared me from behind and I turned to find Jason clawing at my leg. Turning to kick him, I felt a hand on my neck. “Easy.” The Beta’s voice filled my thoughts. “Sleep.” He commanded and I felt a squeeze to my neck. Darkness overtook me but the pain in my heart and soul remained. My wolf howled mournfully once more in my mind and then went silent. A tear slipped my eye as I fell to the floor.
