Chapter 30At midnight the next evening after we left Honolulu, I walked out onto the aft deck with one of the urns and scattered Katharina’s ashes into the ocean. It seemed like a good place to do it. It was here that Katharina and I began to fall in love, though I’m sure neither of us knew it at the time. I was beginning to wonder if this trip to the Philippines was a good idea. Every port we stopped in brought memories of Katharina flooding back—vivid memories that triggered a throbbing ache inside me. I kept to myself the rest of the trip, taking my meals at odd times or in one of the cafes rather than in the dining room.
