I paced the office in our home; what does this mean? Does this mean that Aladora had more than one child? Drake walked in, fuming, his nails elongated into sharp claws that he threw at the wall beside him, “How is this possible?” I asked him; Drake was moments from shifting into his dragon. I could see it when his eyes changed between human and reptilian.
“I did some digging,” I raised a brow, but he gave me a glare, “Don’t even. His body would have decomposed completely by now.”
“But what are the chances?” I asked; he rolled his eyes at me before sitting at his computer,
“I did the DNA test. The last known relative is a woman by the name of Amber, Amber Cunningham.” He told me, I went over to look at the computer; the woman in the photo, Amber Cunningham, was a redhead with green eyes. But the one thing that caught my attention was her facial features; she looked almost identical to Aladora. I felt my body tense, and my rage began to boil over. She had the same evil smirk, the same one Aladora had after killing Maryanne right in front of us. I couldn’t fight my rage anymore. I ran towards the door and outside to the backyard. It was secluded so we could shift into our dragon forms and not be seen; we made sure of that when we built the house years ago. Our subjects still saw us as the Kings, so they followed us and helped us rebuild, but we hadn’t been back to the castle since that day. I ran out and was shrouded in a thick purple mist. When I emerged, I was a giant dark purple scaled dragon. I began destroying everything in my path; many servants ran inside to take cover. Drake then came out in front of me in his dragon form and tackled me to the ground, “Calm yourself!” He snapped through the link; I growled once again,
“This should not be possible!” I screamed; before we could continue arguing, Victoria came outside with a hand on her hip. Her ruby red eyes glistened in the light,
“My, my, are the brothers at it again?” She giggled, we both huffed at her, and she put her hands up in defense, “Relax, I was summoned.” She replied, then turned away slightly, “Trust me, I know I’m the last person you want to see, after what my sister did.”
Victoria sat across from us in the lounge. One of the maids came in and poured some tea before quickly running away. I pursed my lips as Drake cupped his hands, “Why would the Vampire Queen be summoned by the Dragon Kings?” Drake asked; Victoria raised her brow at him then smirked,
“News travels fast, my kings. I understand that you’ve found my niece.” I tensed, so it is true,
“So, what do you want?” I asked; she sipped her tea, then set it on the little plate it came with,
“It’s not what I want, dears, but what I can offer you.”
“Which is?” I asked. I could hear the venom in my own voice as I snapped; she smiled sweetly, then cupped her hands over her knee,
“Information.” Drake and I looked at each other, then back to her,
“Victoria, we know you. There was one thing you and your sister had in common. You both wouldn’t just give something without receiving some form of compensation.” I said; Drake nodded in agreement,
“So, we ask again,” Drake said, leaning a bit closer to her from his seat next to me, “what do you want?” Victoria picked up her teacup and sipped it before standing up and walking to the fireplace, staring at the purple flames,
“Do you remember that day?” She asked, “The day it happened?” I scoffed at her question,
“Of course we do. It was the day your sister took the most important person in our lives.” I snapped; was she here to patronize us?
“I was there. It was the same day I lost my humanity,” she paused for a moment and clenched her fist, “because of my sister.” Drake got up and crossed his arms,
“What do you mean?” He asked; I wasn’t about to admit it, but I was curious too.
“Right after everything happened, I told my sister that you were being honest and that the girl,”
“Maryanne!” I yelled. She snapped her eyes to mine; Drake placed his hand on my shoulder,
“Her name was Maryanne.” He told her; she nodded,
“I told her that she shouldn’t have killed Maryanne, that you were going to give her the throne.” We stayed silent, “Aladora struck me then let her damn goons do…everything, to me; and after they were done with me, they left me on the side of the road. That’s when my husband found me. If he hadn’t, I’d be dead now.” I slumped back in my seat,
“What does that have to do with the current situation?” I asked; she came over to us once again and sighed,
“My husband turned me and gave me these special rings that allowed me to walk in the sunlight. So, I was able to watch my sister from afar because she thought I was dead.” Drake and I were both curious to see where this was going to go. “I watched Alador grow up and had heard rumors that he was with the bakers’ daughter, Isabelle if I recall correctly; it has been some time. But she was soon married to someone else, so no one could know for sure if the child was her husbands’ or Aladors’.” I nodded. The pieces were starting to fall into place,
“So, this confirms it; Anastasia is one of Aladoras’ descendants,” I muttered under my breath, but Drake wasn’t convinced,
“If that’s the case, then why does she look identical to Maryanne?” Victoria rolled her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose,
“How can you be so sexy and so clueless at the same time?” She asked. Drake had smoke coming from his nostrils,
“Don’t test me, witch!” This time, I had to calm him down,
“Maryanne was our cousin, you idiots!” Her words left me, and Drake both speechless, “Aladora and I were much older than her, and she had never met us, so that’s why she didn’t recognize Aladora when she came. Our aunt, Maryannes’ mother, was the only member of the family with no powers, so she could live a normal life. Maryanne didn’t know anything about us.” Drake collapsed; I knelt beside him,
“This isn’t possible….” He muttered. Victoria began to leave,
“I’ll show myself out,” she paused before exiting the room and turned slightly to us, “If you do want to break the curse, I can show her how. You’d be able to age and die; the choice is yours.” She walked away, but I went after her. Before she could walk out the door, I grabbed her wrist,
“What do you want in exchange for this information?” I asked. She smiled lightly and sighed,
“I just want peace.” She said; I considered her answer then released her. I watched as she left us there, confused and hopeful.
Drake and I didn’t know what to think, and from what we could tell, Ana didn’t know who she really was. But the part that confused us even more, was that even though we knew who she was, we felt drawn to her. We’ve never experienced this before. She’s worked with us for a week now, and already. Anytime we even caught a hint of her scent, our bodies would tense, and our stomachs would flutter with longing and anticipation.
Instead of working, I watched Ana at her desk in front of the office; we made sure the windows in our office were one-way, so if something were to happen, we’d see it coming, but it couldn’t see us. Drake cleared his throat from his desk as he noticed my gaze, “Do you want her to bend over the desk for a better view?” He asked; my face flushed red, and I turned my attention away from her,
“Not at all!” I practically shouted, “I was just making sure she wasn’t having any trouble.” I lied, Drake chuckled at me,
“Whatever.” I sighed and returned to my work on the computer.
After about an hour, there was a knock on the door, “Come in.” I called; Ana walked in and turned to Drake,
“Mr. Leviathan, the building director, a Mr. Thompson, dropped these off and asked you to look them over.” She bent over the desk slightly, which gave me a great view of her ass and her birthmark. But, instead of a feeling of dread, I felt compelled to take her into my lap and caress her.
“Thank you, Ana; I’ll take a look.” Drake replied, “Was there anything else?” He asked; Ana was hesitant for a moment,
“Yes, sir,” she turned, so she was talking to both of us, “I apologize for Saturday. I should have told you that I’m not much of a drinker. And for…what happened.” I felt my groin getting harder beneath my pants,
“Don’t worry about it. We should have done better to get out of there before anything inappropriate could happen.” Drake replied; I could see the slight look of disappointment on her face, “Consider it water under the bridge.”
“Yes, sir.” We both went back to work, but Ana just stood there. I decided to risk it and walked over to her,
“Was there something else, Ana?” I asked; she glanced up, only for a moment, then looked down again,
“No, sir. I’ll be at my desk if you need anything else.” She said quietly, then went out the door to her desk. I saw her wipe a small tear from her cheek as she went back to work. I didn’t know what to do; my head told me to brush it off and get back to work, but my heart was kicking and screaming, saying to pull her back into the room and not let her go until she was entirely mine. I decided to listen to my head, at least, for now.
It was getting late, and most employees were leaving for the day. I turned to Drake, who was staring out the window, looking over the blueprints Ana brought him hours ago, “Should we tell her?” I asked him, without even blinking an eye or turning to me; he replied,
“Not yet. We need to win Ana over.” I gave him a look,
“Win her over? Drake, if you didn’t notice, she’s not exactly in here on her hands and knees begging for us to take her in and love her.” Drake showed reaction by my words,
“Love? Since when has your heart felt love for another woman? A woman whose descendant took our mate away from us!” Drake yelled at me; I stood,
“The same woman we both loved, but Drake, she’s been gone for years.” I said, “What if it’s possible that we could have another chance? A chance to love someone, a chance to be loved. A chance to finally be happy after so many centuries!” I could see Drakes’ anger, but I also saw the gleam of hope behind that rage. I placed a hand on his shoulder, “You were certain about Maryanne. I was skeptical.” He chuckled,
“Oh, how the tides have turned.” I smiled,
“Let’s not fight, but let’s try to figure this out. Not just for our sake, but for hers as well.”
