It has been rough couple of weeks since Jake has left to go back to the military and not to long after his departure, did aunt Calissa depart as well. I was officially 34 weeks exhausted and ready for it to be the end of my pregnancy. My father and brothers have been showing up a lot more to help out with preparing for the baby, and of course Cassidy without a doubt was there 100%.
I had spoke to Jake twice since he left and it sucked because I wish he had been here in order to help with things. Aunt Calissa checked on us every once in a while but her going home meant less responses due to her work. My mother still refuse to bond with me and to no surprise I was ok with this.
Calissa was the closes to a mother I've ever known and this was something that I appreciated, she still made sure to email me every now and then to tell me that she wishes everything well as we wait for Amiena to arrive.
I was thinking when the person sitting across from me cleared their throat, I looked up at Sam and gave him a small smile "Sorry, pregnancy brain gets side tracked sometimes." He nodded and pulled out the folder that he wanted me to look over. We had become closer since the night of the party and I wasn't so mean to him. "I was hoping you could go over these papers and tell me if my calculations is correct, it seems that money is going missing and I can't figure out where it's going and it's all electronic and goes back a good portion of the decade. I would like to catch it before the audit. Doesn't seem like my father paid close attention to this part."
I nodded taking the folder, "I'll need emailed the data for me to actually be successful with this.
He nodded "I can get you one of the work computers if it will help. It has all of the data, it just wouldn't be able to leave the HQ." I raised my eyebrow.
"It's nothing against you, they are routed to only be able to go through the information in the office, it's encrypted if it leaves the office." I nodded that must be some crazy mojo that his father put into the company if he was able to do all that. He stood up walking over to his desk and grabbing something next to his desk and walking back over to the table I was sitting at.
"I can handle that." He smiled "You'll obviously be paid for your time into looking through this and coming up with what's going on."
"If it's alright with you, I'll look over the information now." I pulled out my notebook and own computer as to speed up the process. He walked back to his desk and sat down.
==================================================================================
It had been hours that we had been in his large office working and I could see the sky was starting to turn grey outside. The window of his HQ were large and you could see downtown from how high up we are, actually more then downtown. I could see all the way out to the forest. Town wasn't that big, but we made up in all the ways that mattered. We even had our own Dollar General.
I sat down my pen and pushed my glasses up and stretched, I could feel that I needed to stand up and actually move around. I also needed something salty to eat, I walked over to the window and pulled out my phone texting Cassidy to make sure that her and Amelia were ok. I also checked the time and saw that it was already 5pm and I hadn't ate since 1pm. Which made my stomach growl out loud. I heard a laugh and looked at Sam who was getting off the phone and turning towards me.
"If it makes you feel any better. I order pizza and it should be here." He looked at his watch "Now." The doors opened and in walked in secretary with a pizza, drinks, plates, and a bag.
I grinned "My hero."
The secretary looked at me like she did not like me before she walked out the door saying "Let me know if I can assist you with anything else sirrr." The last part made me laugh "Oh sir would you like me to spoon feed you."
He grinned and tossed a fork at me, which I caught. "Nice," He brought the food over to the table as I cleaned up my mess from working. "When did you start wearing glasses?" I looked over at him an grinned "I always told you I was blind. Not my fault you didn't believe me.'
"That's true." He held up a slice of pizza before taking a large bite, I took a slice and he pushed a water and a chef salad my way "I didn't know if you still liked this but I figured why not."
I smiled at that, he remembered my favorites. "Its really what I needed." I started eating not realizing how hungry I was.
We sat and just talked for the longest, about what we had accomplished, were we had been in life and the different things that we wanted to do before we died. It was honestly a very good day. That is until the door to his office opened and in walked Bridget and someone I was hoping that I would never have to deal with again. We both sat up straight as we acknowledged his mother walked into the room.
"Hello baby, I hope you didn't forget about..Oh hello Ali..sha. Why are you here?" His mother standing straighter at the sound of my name. I put my glasses back up and cleared my throat "I believe I'm working."
"Sam, What is she talking about?" His mother Patricia spoke.
"I've been having some issues with backlog and our numbers not adding up, and Ali is good at things like that. So I bought her services." He spoke standing up and walking to his mother kissing her cheek. His mother glared at me as she hugged her son and Bridget stood with her arms crossed.
"Baby did you forget we are suppose to be having dinner with your parents. " Bridget spoke.
He sighed "Sorry time slipped my mind, I've been trying to play catchup with last months portfolios."
I started cleaning up my stuff and putting it back into my work bag and making sure to shut the computer down before attempting to stand up, which was not always the easiest task depending where I set. The chair I moved to was a lot shorter and I didn't want to risk trying to use the glass table to stand. Just what I needed in front of them.
Sam saw me struggling and offered me his hands helping me lift myself from the chair and smiling "Thanks, I better go since you have plans. We will pick this up another day?" He nodded and picked up my bag "Is your car fixed?"
I looked at him guilty and he shook his head "I'll live you a ride."
"No go enjoy your family, I'm going to just request a Uber." I spoke.
"Nonsense, Just give me a moment to speak with them." He glanced over at his mother and girlfriend. I sighed knowing it made no sense to argue with him
He walked over and explained to them that he was going to drop me off and meet them at the restaurant so that he knew I made it home safe. They protested but he informed them that if it wasn't for him having them work so late she could have had someone come and get me and that it wasn't up for debate.
We drove in silence all the way to my house, Cassidy had sent me a message informing me that she was going to keep Amelia for the night so that I can finish getting things set up at home. I was thankful because there was a lot still needing to be done before I officially popped.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and went to open the door and realized that it was already being held open by Sam. I hadn't even noticed that he got out of his seat or even walked around. I took the hand he offered me to get out of the car,
I smiled "Thanks for that." He nodded "Even though it would be funny to watch you struggle to get out, I think I should help." I laughed and hugged him, his arms wrapped around me and I closed my eyes laying my head against his chest.
We stood like this for a moment before hearing him say "Ali?" I looked up and stared into his eyes. His beautiful eyes that always held onto me. Before I could say anything his lips pressed against mine, and his arms tightened around my waist. He deepened the kiss and I clung to his shirt as his hands moved lower.
We stayed like this for a while clinging to each other, as if the hunger for each other was so deep and so starved. He froze when his phone rang, it was that moment when I was shoved back into reality and pulled away. He reached for my arm and I pulled back pressing my fingers to my mouth "I-I need to go inside." I didn't give him time to say anything as I went into my house and shut the door leaning my back against it.
What did I just do.
