Prologue
His touch is truly soft. Loux's large palm against her bare skin was the only thing she needed right now. Too comfortable. Until the man stopped reaching every inch of her body and fell deeper into sleep, it felt like something was missing. Aelris held her breath for a moment before moving his large hand from her hip. She sat on the edge of the bed, starting to stare at Loux's oversized throne robe hanging on the hanger next to the door. Now was the right time. She didn't want to waste any more time. Aelris immediately got out of bed, crossing the dark yet warm room to get something from there. She began to reach behind the pocket of the young emperor's robe. Her hand pulled out a dagger steadily, then she scanned it for a moment. It was clearly not a good dagger, one that was useless because it was blunt. Before today, it would have never occurred to Aelris to use a blunt dagger to take someone's life. A dull one for a crueler death, she thought. Aelris returned to the sleeping young emperor. Her feet tiptoed across the room. The blunt dagger was now hidden behind her plain back. Aelris' grip tightened as the distance between them narrowed. Silver tendrils slowly crawled out of Aelris' fist, spreading throughout the blade. Now the discarded item looked much more valuable. Aelris was just one step closer, ready to climb onto the bed and crawl over Loux's body. Aelris' small movements were full of caution so that the young emperor would not wake up from his deep sleep. At least, not before this dagger managed to tear open that calmly beating heart. One more inch, suddenly Aelris' world felt like it was spinning violently. Her waist was yanked so hard that it slammed into the soft base of the bed. Fuck! They should not have swapped places like this! Aelris shuddered when her eyes met the pair of bluish-gray irises. In the next second, a teasing laugh escaped the plump lips of the man above her. "Oh, my dearest Ael," Loux whispered lowly. His hoarse voice was enough to affect Aelris' heartbeat. Plus, the look on his face made Aelris want to hit him and kiss him at the same time. Unfortunately, that wouldn't happen. Her wrists were now tightly locked by Loux's large palm. This asshole man really restricted her movements. "They were brave and stupid enough to send you here," Loux said, his bluish-gray irises looking darker and more deadly than usual. Aelris shot back defiance as best as she could without seeming daunted. "But, sweetie, didn't they know?" Loux brought their bodies closer together. Unfortunately, Aelris immediately felt the warmth when she was this close under his arms. Their skin touched again, and Aelris started to squirm uncomfortably. As if he understood the meaning of her squirming, Loux grinned slightly. "By giving you to me, it means those stupid dogs are ready to lose one of their diamonds, right?"
