Chapter one
The party has quietened down a lot within the last hour. Ophelia knew the night was coming to an end. She couldn't help but smile thinking about her warm bed.
The remaining four girls sat down on the Jessica's living room floor.
"Well I'd say that was a success" Jessica said in satisfaction.
"You're parents will never even know you had a party" stated Clarissa
Ophelia and Sophie gave each other knowing looks. They both knew that somehow Jessica's parents would find out she held a party. They always did.
"Well at least your house isn't trashed this time" joined in Sophie while she reminisced about the state of the house after the last party.
Ophelia looked around the room, nothing was damaged luckily but there were empty bottles and cups which needed to be binned.
"Oh, can we try something? I seen it online earlier" asked Clarissa enthusiastically.
"What the hell will you try to make us do this time?" questioned Sophie.
Ophelia knew Clarissa would believe practically anything she read online. One time she seen a video that tried to convince people that it was impossible to stub your own toe.
Of course, she learnt the hard way that it was false information.
"I want to try to summon the devil. It looked so cool when they did it" Clarissa explained.
"you must be crazy" blurted out Jessica
"Do you really want some demon haunting you, you can't mess with that type of stuff" explained Sophie
"oh come on please, just try it with me. what's the worst that could happen?" Clarissa begged
"I can think of a few things actually" Ophelia reasoned
"fine, if it shuts you up but then I'm going to bed" Jess agreed
"I guess I'm in too. It's not like I believe any of that stuff" Sophie agreed
All three girls then looked to Ophelia waiting for her answer. They all knew that Ophelia was more sceptical of things but also knew that she would do anything that her friends were doing too.
Ophelia was the type of person that was quiet until her voice needed to be heard. She would avoid confrontation but everyone knew there was a raging fire inside her that would scorch anyone it needed to.
She was a beautiful little box of mystery.
"fine, okay. how do we do this?" she asked giving in
Clarissa instructed in her friends where to sit while Jessica gathered a few tealight candles she knew her mum kept in the cupboard. They lay the candles on the ground in front of them creating a pentagram.
"okay, now lets all hold hands and close your eyes. I'll say the words" Clarissa explained
All the girls did as they were told and closed their eyes while listening to Clarissa say some sort of chant.
Silence then crept into the room as the girls remained still anticipating something to happen.
"well, that didn't work"
Clarissa was the first to speak which brought all girls to stare at her.
"are you satisfied now? can I sleep?" Jessica asked
"sure, I'll be up in a minute" Clarissa replied
Clarissa was spending the night at Jessica's house since she had agreed to help clean up in the morning, it was also because her parents were extremely strict and would never allow her to drink or party.
"we should get going too" Ophelia told Sophie
"good idea, speak to you both tomorrow"
Sophie and Ophelia hugged Jess and Clarissa goodbye before heading out the house.
"Maybe we should call a taxi" Ophelia spoke
"I've got my car here, why would we call a taxi?" Sophie asked
"well you've had a couple drinks, I don't think its a good idea and its not as though I can drive us home"
"oh come on Ophelia, that drink barely touched me. Do you actually think I'm drunk or something? I would never drive if I didn't think I was able to"
"okay, I guess you're right. Just take it easy though" Ophelia told her while getting into the passenger seat.
"I always do" Sophie replied while pulling off the driveway.
Sophie turned on the radio quietly so it would drown out the silence as she drove. Ophelia had been watching the world pass by through the passenger window.
Suddenly something darted across the road, so fast that Sophie didn't even have time to see it.
"Sophie!" Ophelia screamed
To them, the world appeared to be spinning at the speed of light. However, it was in fact their car that was flipping down a long bank.
Ophelia's scream was nothing but a muffled sound as the car bashed against the earths surface. All windows had smashed into crumbs of glass while the car had shrank in size due to it being compressed by each hit.
When the car finally came to a halt nothing could be heard. It was as though the world had stopped, perhaps even ended.
Slowly coming out of her daze, Ophelia lifted her head and looked through the darkness. During the descend of the hill Ophelia was thrown out of the car.
Slowly she managed to pull herself to her feet while ignoring the sting that consumed her body, all of which was inflicted by broken glass.
"Sophie!" she called
The silence seemed to grow and suffocate her now.
She limped over to the remains of the car with tears obstructing her view. She had made it to the drivers side where Sophie had been sat happily only 10 minutes ago.
Now, Sophie sat there crushed and completely lifeless. There was no air left in her lungs, no beat to her heart and no sparkle in her eyes.
