Blackstone Town There was fire everywhere…the whole place burned. Standing at the centre of the burning mansion, the seven year old lad could smell the abhorring scent of burning flesh…it was repulsive. There was chaos all around him but it wasn’t like the ones he watched in war movies. This was hell. Fire engulfed and consumed everyone; those were faces that he was familiar with. He stood, paralyzed. There was nowhere to run to. Screams echoed like a piercing ring in his ears, clouds of smoke blinded his vision. It was scorchingly hot; he sweated like he was profoundly plagued. Even the tears that ran down his cheeks were hot. If pain is a taste, then it’s all that he tasted. At this point he wished for a quicker death. But they were no wishing stars that night, so his wish never came through. Instead the strong hands of his father lifted him up. Edward held his son protectively as he raced through the blazing fire. There was no time to waste, no hesitation. Before the lad knew it they were already outside. “Edward.” A female voice called. When Edward came to his wife he gave the little boy to his mother. “Anna, there is no time, you have to leave now.” Edward said. “We are not going anywhere without you.” Anna insisted. Edward cupped his wife’s face, “I’ll never forgive myself if anything happens to the both of you.” “Just come with us please.” She pleaded amidst of tears. “An Alpha never leaves his pack.” “Edward please -” “I love the both of you.” He said as he kissed their foreheads before he removed a certain pendant from his neck and placed it around his son’s neck. He gave them a long affectionate embrace. “Go,” he said lastly before she turned to the other path, and hurriedly she walked down. Edward was still staring after his wife and son when he was shot with an arrow. His attackers surrounded him immediately. Instinctively, Anna stooped; she turned only to see his husband being overpowered by his numerous attackers. Franticly she ransacked her mind trying to find a way to help Edward…but there was no time to ponder. Firstly she had to keep her son safe or at least find a safe spot for him, so she hid him inside a hole, deep enough to cover his height. “Mummy, I am scared.” His voice quivered as he spoke. “It is ok baby, mummy will be right back.” She assured him. “Where are you going?” He asked. “I want to go and find your father so that we can play hide and seek.” “If I hide here will you and daddy seek me?” “Yes baby, we will seek you out, so don’t come out no matter what ok?” “Ok mummy.” He said with a smile. Anna smiled back, “I love you.” She said lastly before she left. The little boy sat inside the tiny hole. He told himself to dwell on his mother’s words, they were going to seek him out he just needed to be to patient. So he began to count silently, “One, two, three, four, five…” he waited and waited and waited but they never came back. Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days turned to weeks and they never came back.
